i was mostly thinking that these people are your standard space jumpers, smuggling people and/or goods from planet to planet until they take a job that was more than they bargained for

//ok so before everything, should this be an already established team or should they all start getting recruited by Xan?
and the plot is basically going to be a group of vigilante planet jumpers take random jobs ranging from people in need to high profile celebrities/criminals, though they occasionally take money they usually deal in favors, cashing them in whenever needed no questions asked. their name goes around and they start to get more and more popular, eventually getting to the point where a very big name mobster catches wind and wants them to run an "errand" for them. this "errand" turns out to be kidnapping an important figurehead from a planet that had been refusing to do business with them. they can either choose to protect the figurehead, souring the relationship with this intergalactic mob, or turn him in, forever having your name be scorned across the universe, forever hunted by the intergalactic council. the choice is yours
