The thunder startled Ivar into jumping. Of course, immediately after he was embarrassed.
"Sorry," he said sheepishly, "I'm not usually so skittish. It's just been a long day. Not literally long... All the days are the same length, mostly, but... Well, you know what I mean."
And there he went, rambling again. Ivar made himself shut up. He didn't want to make a fool of himself any more than he already had.
"It's nice to meet you, Ammonite." He said quietly.

Ammonite nodded in response, deciding words were unnecessary. She internally batted away negative thoughts and focused on the idea of food.
They continued to walk for a while; the land seemed oddly barren and, despite her repulsion, the demoness decided to fill the silence. Even she was getting bored.
"If you spot any hares," she growled, "it's worth snatching them up. They taste so much like seafood, it's bizarre."
A stupid topic choice? Perhaps. Would it work? Also a possibility.

Allaiyn listened to Celes' humming, a small smile threatening her serious expression.
She knew a few good traveling and walking songs, but she'd never heard the one he hummed as the rain pitter-pattered all around.
Finally she got up the nerve to turn, looking over at the male and asking softly, so as not to wake the hatchling, "What song is that?"

Celes opened his eyes halfway, looking around the clearing for a moment before settling on Allaiyn's lightly smiling face. "Oh, um, its just a lullaby we sing at home to the hatchlings at home to help them sleep. We have two very energetic Spiral hatchlings who don't always like to go at bedtime.". His eyes slid shut again as he visualized the hatchlings playing on the beach. The corners of his mouth twitched up in a smile.
"When we get to my clan the first thing that will probably happen will be two very excited hatchlings trying to get any of us to play with them". He tilted his head, leaning it further against the tree. "I wonder how that strange hatchling will react to them. I still don't know her story, I was struggling to keep conscious when her story went down.".
He reached down and scratched Ray along the back and between the ears. The big Foo began to purr, loudly and heartily. The Foo yawned and curled up against Celes' back leg, purr still vibrating through him. Celes lifted up his arm and sighed. To think the beast had caused Celes all this pain.

"Hares?" Ivar repeated, "Huh. Well, it's been a while since I've had hare."
He was silent for a few moments, but the quiet made him uncomfortable as well, so he made an effort to continue the conversation. "If you don't mind me asking... Why do you live out here, all alone? You don't have to answer, I realize it's a very personal question, I was just curious."
Despite himself, Ivar had grown fond of Ammonite. Her gruffness was endearing, if only because she was unlike any other dragons Ivar had met. He wanted to know more about why she was the way she was.

Something in the demoness cracked, for she was a fragile surface simply awaiting something to do the job. As a horrible sensation filled her throat - like the evils within her threatening departure - she saw fuzzy, grey visions of the past events that brought her this far. Her seditious behaviour; her recklessness; her mother's words...
Ammonite's lip curled into a snarl. She was able to vaguely describe part of her clan's identity in the hopes that the other dragons would realise that her situation was beyond proper explanation, for it was weird; weird and frightening.
She finally spoke, trying to restrain her unease.
"I came from a clan with a rather unique history and-" at this point she stuttered slightly- "traditions. Things of which I admired dearly. However..."
She kept her head low as she stopped speaking; perhaps in order to keep herself together.
"When they wanted to change from savages to negotiators, I refused."

Allaiyn relaxed again, watching the woods again and wondering when Ivar and the Ridgeback would be back.
Her stomach rumbled and she frowned slightly, realizing how hungry she really was.
She glanced at the mysterious hatchling; at least the little one had eaten something earlier, whatever those plants had been. Allaiyn might not have known much about hatchling care, but she new they definitely needed to be fed a lot to keep healthy. She'd observed that much in the few clans she'd stayed with in her travels.
Her curiosity about the little one was growing every minute. She wished she could ask it how it got out here, who its family was, where it had come from.

"Savages?" He said, a little baffled by the notion that savagery was preferable to... Well, whatever the alternative was. Civilization. But he understood the meaning behind her words. Ammonite's had changed, and she had not, and he could relate to that feeling of helplessness. He tried to muster up some words of comfort.
"I'm sorry. Your clan seems..." He stopped, tilting his head as he searched for the right word. He didn't want to offend Ammonite in any way. Passing his judgement on her family probably wouldn't have made the best impression, so he decided to just move on.
"Regardless, I'm sorry. I know how you feel, sort of... Not exactly, but... Well, I'm in a similar situation, really. Or I was."

Ammonite was suddenly alerted by Ivar's condolences.
"Sorry?" She repeated before shaking her head. "I didn't intend for a sympathetic reaction - most clan's have to change. I suppose it's a survival gimmick - one that I wanted to keep. Regardless… what about your clan-?"
Her voice trailed off as soon as a sharp rustling entered the air, along with faint squeals and quarrels. The sound resonated in the dragoness' claws, leaving an unpleasant tingle. The noise's source was at ground level. "Answer that later," she grumbled as she held her head low.

Ivar nodded, bracing himself to attack whatever creature Ammonite had noticed. "What is it?" He muttered quietly, turning in the direction of the noise. Perhaps he should have been able to recognize it on his own, but Ivar didn't really care at the moment. He was more focused on the prospect of food.
(Sorry this is so short; just wanted to get this thing moving again)
