Evelyn | Hufflepuff | Hogwarts Express -> Carriages | Interacting with: Tarina (@Cirquedubestial) and Dov (@Draconequis)
The incessant droning of the steam locomotive's clattering lulled Evelyn into a mindful sleep like state. She could tell more or less what was happening around her, but she was too tired and too relaxed to pay much attention. The rain crashing hard against the glass windows of their compartment had her in a trans-like state. Evelyn was vaguely made aware of a conversation taking place, the most audible being a faint clicking noise, mostly droned out by the weather outside.
Crashes of thunder struck not too far from where they were. The cool air almost reached out to caress her cheek. Then the reek came, just before a loud bang. Evelyn's eyes flew open. That was no ordinary thunder. Something felt like it was on fire. The stench carried, and she felt the train coming to a slow halt as well.
The voice carrying through the narrow express hallway indicated that they'd reached their destination. The first thing she saw was a man sitting across from her and her friend. Then she felt it. Her friend, Tarina, had her by the shoulders and were attempting to shake her awake. The urgency in her demeanour was startling.
"G-good evening. Did you sleep well?" she asked, still half dozed. Her friends flight tendency made her pout. She'd just woken up and she hadn't even managed to greet the stranger opposite to them with... Her legs moved automatically from beneath her at her friend's prompts, her hands catching hold of her shoulder sling bag, tossing it mindlessly over her left shoulder "Is that a toucan?", she asked, more to herself than anyone else at that point, as she moved out of the compartment door into the busy and crowded hallway. She'd grown up caring for magical creatures but all animals fascinated her.
A vast number of students pushed and prodded to make their way off of the train. Many such students in a rush due to excited fervor or plain panic due to the current events. She peered back over her shoulder to the compartment she'd just left, and hoped to see the golden skinned man again on campus soon so she could apologize for her curt behaviour. The magnitude of students shoving from behind was overwhelming and the Hufflepuff felt herself being driven forward by the masses until she was onto the platform.
The air about her felt cool to her skin and made her shiver in response. The stench still clung to the air like an unpleasant wave of garden gnomes. She searched desperately for her friends arm and tagged along. She dared not speak, as it would only be lost in the crowd. She acknowledged the dark black cloud surrounding the forest tree tops. To Evelyn, something almost cried out from the sight. It struck a chord in her heart, how many homes were ruined now for the inhabitants of that particular part of the forest, and she hoped silently but sincerely that the rain would flush out any residual embers and flares that might still have been lingering. She prayed to her deity that no one got hurt too bad.
