"Okay, go go go!" Skye's mom shouted quickly the very second her lime-green minivan has finished coming to an almost-screeching halt, thanks to her slamming on the brakes. The woman blew a kiss to her, shouted "Love you! Have fun at school!" and then promptly drove off, almost before Rory was even able to close the door to the backseat after getting out.
Rory shook his head, and jogged a bit to catch up with his younger cousin. "I don't even know why I still choose to carpool with you. Your mom is unreliable at best, and also crazy." She didn't seem to take offense to that, responding cheerily,
"You just love to spend time with your favorite sophomore, that's all! And besides, it's not like we get here late because of the scenic route EVERY day." She grinned widely, then continued suddenly without the grin, "No but seriously, we're late, let's go to class." Rory nodded quickly, and the two half-ran, half-walked together into the campus. "What first period?" Skye asked, glancing at her cousin.
"Bradley. Up in the hall to the right. You?"
"Ugh, Brunswick. He's kinda mean. Or just strict? I haven't really figured him out yet. Well, see ya." With that, the cousins split apart, heading to their own respective classrooms. The bell had rung before they even got there, so they both just had to hope that their teacher would accept the lame excuse that their driver insisted on taking a longer route than necessary. Or, even better, that if they walked in quietly enough the teacher wouldn't care enough to notice them being late.
Skye
Skye scanned Mr. Brunswick's class as she sheepishly entered the room, hoping Mr. Brunswick wasn't looking at the door. She quickly sat down in the nearest seat, idly taking out her phone and then zipping and unzipping her backpack pockets, pretending not very well that she'd been there for a while and was just bored waiting for class to start. Completely innocent, just bored, that was what she was. Yup. She wasn't daring to look up and risk making eye contact with the teacher, so she just kept staring at her phone.
She frowned, though, as her phone suddenly shifted on her desk. Having been leaning on the desk quite a lot, she noticed that it was moving.. no, scratch that, it was shaking slightly. She looked around the classroom, frowning. "Is someone stomping and shaking the floor or something?"
Rory
Rory glanced back at his sister, then up and down the hallway as he kept on towards his homeroom class. He noticed a few stragglers, though at this point they were probably just skipping class, not being slow to get there. He noticed one guy making a beeline for the front building, towards the nurse's office. Huh, maybe he was sick? That would suck, being sick so early in the day. Realizing he'd come to a standstill in his distraction. the junior jumped and scrambled to get to the door of the classroom while looking as not-late as possible.
He opened the door as quietly as he could, moving to take a seat near the front. He tried not to make it known, but he actually couldn't see things far away that well. He refused to wear glasses since he first got them in sixth grade, and was promptly told by at least 2 other students that he looked stupid in them. He had tried contacts, but.. he just really didn't like them that much, and his 6-month supply had run out a while ago. He just conveniently forgot to remind his parents to get more, and that was that.
He was too absorbed in squinting slightly at the board, looking to see if there was some sort of work thing he was supposed to be doing right now, to notice the slight tremor in the ground, knocking over some unfortunate kid's already dented hydro flask and spilling water everywhere. He glanced over at the scene, before deciding he didn't really have any pity for his fellow student, since they HAD put it on the very edge of the desk, almost half of the bottle not even on the actual desk surface.
