System alarms blared in the background but they were distant and weak, snuffed out by the thick walls of the plague ship. The hallways of the Plaguecaller were somewhat empty though a tiny Fae fluttered though the ship at breakneck speeds. Once reaching a large room near the top of the frigate, a white and red pearlcatcher sat grazing over papers at a desk.
"Azael! I com bearing news from the Hauchlant sector."
The pearlcatcher raised his head and gawked quizzically at the fae.
"The Hauchlant sector, Feral? What would be happening out in our mining field?"
The dragon sounded almost sarcastic. Hauchlant was simply an asteroid field. Their operation out there was quite clean. Sure the operation was run by pirates but the citadel didn't know that, and they weren't breaking any codes.
"There's a report of.. An anomaly... They woundldn't-er-couldn't say any more. Said we should bring in a specialist to analyze it. The team on site hasn't seen anything like it."
The tiny odd-clawed messenger stopped fluttering and perched on the back of a chair. The pearlcatcher huffed and ran a claw over the desk, scattering charts and papers.
"Fine. Order the best specialist you an find. On the downlow and through O'Lori per usual. I'm not letting this grow into a problem. I have enough on my plate as it is."
The hum of motors and drills kept the empty area of space alive with the sound of work. Blinding construction lights kept the site well lit as dragons walked through the airlocked tubes of scaffolding that covered a large section of the surface of an enormous asteroid.
Near the landing platform the clawed fae nodded to a large guardian as they made their way through the airlocked bubble on the side of the asteroid. The tiny dragon landed on the guardian's shoulder as the group neared the airlock doors. The visitors entered the airlock braced with oxygen masks and were hit with fresh steril air.
"You must be the specialist team from the Enterprise."
The guardian said with his deep tone as he welcomed the research party.
"I'll inform you of the situation on the way there. The digsite is this way. Watch your step."
