THIS IS A SEMI-PRIVATE RP FOR A REASON. If you want to join, you MUST have lots of time and commitment for RPs. If your looking for an RP that will likely last a while, this is the one. Its mainly for @CrystalBones and I, but if you think you can uphold commitment to good posts and active participation, you can join. We are only looking for one or two extra RPers who are willing to be engaged in higher-level roleplaying (like skill levels, ''dice'' rolling, etc.). The rules may seem daunting. If they do, you don't need to join.
Rules;
1) Its a magical world, so limitations are necessary. We will assume your characters are average in all studies accept two. They can be slightly above average in two skills only. In magical battle with NPCs, you can choose to reasonably over-power them. Reasonably. If your fighting another player, and you can't decide between you if you should succeed in a spell, we can do a random number draw.
2) For the sake of the RP, I will decline anyone else to have evil characters other then the occasional one-shot with my permission.
3) Please make your character's pasts reasonable and not snaggish.
4) Your characters should not ''discover'' secrets by some random guesswork just because you can read other characters' PoV. Please only have your characters ''discover'' a secret in a way that you would in real life and WITH PERMISSION from the secret's owner.
5) If you read this, put ''crucio'' on the bottom of your character sheet.
6) Be realistic.
7) No Animagus/werewolves/half-humans/teachers... ask for special permission if you want a adult character.

The window of the Hogwarts Express was almost to foggy to see anything through. The forest whizzing by was a mass of green blobs. Kane wished it was clearer outside so his mind could escape the claustrophobic cabin of the train. His leg bobbed nervously.
Kane had changed into his Hogwarts robes and his wand was gripped tightly in his right hand. In his left pocket, he had his other hand, it's fingers barely touching a small blank slip of parchment. It wasn't really blank, of course. It held instructions from his father, only visible to him and other Knells. What it said, Kane had already memorized weeks ago. Yet it seemed important to remind himself it was there.
The other wizards in his cabin were talking amoung themselves about how they were going to win the House and Quidditch cup, occasionally subjecting him to a random question about something equally unimportant. Thus was the nature of unoccupied teens, who didn't have a violent plan sitting in their pocket. These boys and girls were friends and housemates of course, but he was too distracted to put much effort into conversation. His closest friend, Diana Quill, noticed his mental absence immediately, it seemed, for she stopped asking questions and started staring.
The train began to approach the castle and everyone made a scramble to put on their robes and pick up their things in preparation. Kane picked up his single, small suitcase as the train slowed to a halt. Students began to pour out of the cabins and go for a exit. It was hectic, with first years panicking and seventh years pushing smaller kids out of their way. Kane slunk through the crowd, people of other houses making a large gap for him and the other Slytherins. The prejudice against the house had magnified from suspicion and dislike to pure fear and hatered after the Second Great Wizarding war, when many Slytherins proves loyal to the Dark Lord. Kane didn't blame them. After all, he was one.
The conditions were even more dismal when they exited the train. The cold rain and dark sky dampened most student's moods (except the first years, who were enthusiastic about the Sorting) as they waited to get into the Great Hall. It was warmed by the great big fire, and thousands of floating candles. Kane nudged Diana's shoulder as they glanced towards the teachers.
"We've had the same teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts for four years now. Shocking." He muttered into her ear as they took seats at the Slytherin table.
"I know, right? It seems the curse has been lifted." Diana replied with a sideways smile. Kane was usually quite unfriendly (as was Diana), but he made exceptions for friends and housemates.
Loyalty is the most important virtue. Remember that. the memory of his father's words hissed into his mind.
"And look, that cute Hufflepuff boy didn't die over the summer like I thought he would." Diana smirked.
"I heard he had a small wand." Kane whispered in her ear again, chuckling at his own joke. He wasn't a fan of the boy, but he had to admit, he was pretty cute. But his sister was a stuck up Slytherin hater like most Hufflepuff girls, and Kane could never get through her to him.
They quieted down as the elderly Headmaster McGonagall spoke up, addressing the first years.

Laurel gazed out the window of the train as it sped across the forest. She wished it was clearer, but she wasn't to upset about it. James sat beside her, talking to one of his friends across the table. She never kept track of the people her brother hung out with, the group changing to often for her to remember.
Lugging her heavy trunk to the door of the compartment, Laural looked behind her. James had stood, picking up his own trunk, and Snowy's empty cage. She had sent a letter to one of her friends, and the owl had yet to return.
_____
James walked in the swarm of hufflepuffs heading out of the train, as soon as he got into the great hall, he took a seat at the Hufflepuff table, waiting for the rest of his house to join him. He looked around, and saw Laurel sit near the front of the table. She had always loved watching the first-years during the sorting.

The Sorting didn't take long. There were very few first years, and very few joined Slytherin. Kane could count on his hand. The feast started soon after, and McGonagall gave the opening speech. Kane paid little to no attention to her. Instead, he repeated his father's instructions in his mind. He couldn't forget.
As the feast ended, the golden plates vanished with a pop. Students stood up and started off towards their houses. Walking down the row of tables with Diana, Kane bumped into James Leggins.
"Watch where your going, Leggins." Kane hissed, crossing his arms. "Hufflepuffs are clumsy, aren't they, Diana?"
Diana nodded with a small sneer. While Kane enjoyed teasing, his heart fluttered only slightly when he looked at James's tan face. He squashed the feeling immediately.

James looked at the Slytherin boy. "I didn't move, you ran into me." He replied, his gaze flicking between the two. Even as he resisted it. James found himself looking at Kane's face, his hair swept to the side. He wanted to touch it, to see if it was as soft as it looked.

Kane narrows his eyes as he traces James's gaze. He extends his arms defensively, and pushes the Hufflepuff backwards a foot. His heart thumps loudly. He wasn't comfortable with guys checking him out.
"Don't even think about it, you tramp!" The Slytherin snarls.
Kane thinks about storming past the boy when he feels a hand on his shoulder. He spins around, assuming Diana wants his attention, to see Professor Jade Linn there.
"Ten points from Slytherin. Perhaps try not to be a bully. Typical of you to start fights on the first day." She says with a quiet hiss.
Kane starts to open his mouth in retort, but thinks better of it. The Charms teacher was never his friend. "Yes, ma'am."
"Now, you three should be off."
Kane nods, but he gives James a poisonious look the moment he passes the teacher. Diana joins him quietly.

Laurel was waiting at the door for her brother, and the moment Kane stormed past her, she walks over to him. "What are you thinking James? Come on, we're going to be late." She grabs his arm, and James lets her pull him to the hufflepuff common room.

Kane started to settle down as he walked away with his friend. He was defensive and nervous around boys, internalizing his inner hurt and feelings. He was afraid to like people. Afraid they'd hurt him... Or the other way around. It wasn't the boy's fault. It never was. It was his own loathing. He was still traumatized from the last time he's allowed a boy inside of his heart. Diana knew this, and she was always helpful in those situations.
Kane touched the paper in his pocket, reminding himself he had purpose.
The pair reached the painting, and Kane whispered the password. "Legacy."
The painting swung open and they entered the common room.
Vines hung from the walls, and books littered the shelves and tables. Diana muttered a goodnight and went to the girls dorm. Kane wheeled his suitcase and cat carrier to his bed he'd occupied for the last couple years, sitting down quickly. He released Hiss, stroking his fur.

Laurel walks to the barrels, tapping the rhythm on the one near the center, opening up and letting the siblings enter the common room. Laurel and James split, each going to their own rooms. As James sits on his bed, his thoughts drift back to Kane. James had no idea what he was thinking at that point, didn't know if he ever would.
