Name: Lorelei Struna

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Age: 28

Animal: Spider

Abilities:
  • Venomous
  • Strength
  • Can climb on walls
  • Can make silk

Appearance:
Lorelei stands at 6'6" and has an upper-body toned with muscle gained from years of training, something she does every day. Decorating her dark skin are many tattoos, each one an achievement. Her most precious tattoo is over where her heart is underneath her skin, which depicts a curled up half-centipede. Beneath the ink are also scars earned from various fights and scuffles, which are also seen as achievements. Half of her dark hair is shaved, with the other half only being long enough to reach her chin. Her eyes dark enough that it appears Lorelei has no pupils. Tipping each of her fingers are claw-like nails which aid in weaving her silk. For clothing, she wears a simple piece of orange cloth around her chest for modesty. Around her waist is a strip of matching cloth that hangs in between her pedipalp legs. Both are made of spider silk and were dyed with natural substances. Around her forearms are braces made from leather. She is able to attach blades that look like forcipules on to them. Lorelei is able to handle the weight of heavy armor, so the pieces she owns are made of metal.

Her lower half is similar to a tarantula's, complete with a large body covered in fuzzy hair and pedipalp legs located in the front below her waist. The hair itself, which is black with a striped orange pattern, is thick and wiry, but has a softer texture on her thorax and abdomen. Each of her eight legs ends in a paw-like foot tipped in a claw tuft which help her walk on webs and climb on surfaces. It is due to her large and heavy lower half that Lorelei is not very fast.

Magic:
None

Weapons:
Lorelei likes to use heavy weapons, which she is able to use with ease. She owns an axe that is simple in design. It has a handful of scratches on its blade from use. She will use her small blades every once in a while, but this is rare and only if she thinks she may need them.

Culture:
  • Many spiders live in communities located deep in forests, though some are recluses and live alone. One can tell they have stumbled upon one due to the large amount of webs.
  • Their society is based on matriarchy. Females, which are generally bigger than their male counterparts, do much of the hunting and tending to their families while the males loaf around. It is the mother that is the head of the family, and it is the surname of the wife that husbands take on and the surname of the mother that children take on. Females are the ones that generally take up the responsibility to protect these communities.
  • Males have the responsibility of watching their children while their wives are away, but if they have interest in any of the responsibilities of the females, they are free to take them up. Teamwork is another aspect in their society, so the more help, the better. Males often work with each other to watch the children.
  • Silk is seen as having two functions: as a practical material and has a form of art. It can be used for the construction of communities and making of things like clothing. As an art form, it can be used to create silk decorations full of intricate designs. Intricate tapestries made of silk can be seen decorating communities. It is mostly males participate in silk weaving as an art since the females are too busy to do so.
  • When two spiders decide that they want to be mates, both will weave their home within the community together. It is taboo to bother the new couple during this time. If a separation occurs, the couple will tear down their home, which is the last thing they do together, before going their separate ways.

Personality:
She is like the knights of old, chivalrous with a high regard for honor, so much so that it was one of the main reasons she got into fights when she was younger. Even now it still is likely to be the reason behind new wounds. Being different made her insecure as a child, though it did motivate her to become stronger when she saw that she could make herself equal to her centipede peers through battle. When things get dark, she strives to keep calm and composed, but when someone's honor becomes involved, or the well-being of her husband, this calm is replaced with a fierceness not to be trifled with. She has a sense of independence, but is not totally opposed to working with others, a value from her culture that her mother taught her about. While she grew up among the centipede culture, she still holds her spider culture close to her heart.

Lorelei comes off as tough and serious, which is certainly true, especially in regards to training and battle, but has since softened up after marriage. She is not as open with her affections as others, finding them especially hard to return when it comes to those she truly cares about. This makes her appear to be uncaring, but that is not true. Lorelei cares and loves her husband very much, and returns his affections with gestures small in action, but big in meaning.

History:
Lorelei was born in one of the five territories of the centipedes alongside four other siblings. Her family had moved to one of the territories after their community had been attacked by encroaching humans. The story went that while the warriors of the community fought with bravery, they were no match for the strange technology of these plain creatures. Lorelei's mother actively participated in the war-like culture of the centipedes, even getting a couple of tattoos herself, while her father stayed at home to watch her and her siblings. Whenever her mother was around, she would teach Lorelei and her siblings about the culture of the spiders. These teachings filled her with a sense of pride to be a spider, but would conflict with the fact that she was not living among spiders. Around her were centipedes, and Lorelei knew that she stood out among them. She grew up with the feeling of pride and insecurity battling against each other until she saw a way to put herself on equal ground with her peers.

Lorelei's mother was delighted when her daughter told her that she wanted to learn how to fight. She taught Lorelei techniques from the spiders and the centipedes, and pushed her to the limit in training every day. Lorelei was still young when this training began, so she found it to be difficult, but would push through it in order to gain this sense of equality. The few battles she got into at this age were whenever she felt singled out and would use them as a way to prove the other wrong, but lost more than she won. Lorelei got her first tattoo when she was fourteen years old. It was something she did not like at first, but got used to it after winning more and more battles.

By the time Lorelei was an adult, her body had become covered in tattoos just like her mother's. Any battles she participated in were for the honor of herself or her family. She no longer felt different. Being covered in tattoos and scars made her feel like she was a centipede, but she did not forget her arachnid origins. When not training or battling, she would try her hand at using her silk for art purposes, but found that it was more difficult than weaving a web, no matter how many times her father showed her how to create intricate designs.

One certain honor duel led her to where she is today. It was against a centipede named Kyon. With every battle, she fought using every part of her to its full extent. As soon as the battle started to drag on longer than her usual ones, she realized that this was not just any opponent she was facing. This was a worthy foe who was putting in as much effort as herself, perhaps even more, as it was Lorelei who fell before Kyon. She found herself already looking back at the duel that had just occurred only minutes ago. It felt like a real fight. It made all her other battles feel like play-fights she would get into with her siblings. Impressed by the strength of her opponent, Lorelei went on to remember this duel not as a loss, but as her first real fight, as well as the day she met her husband. She been with him since the day they married, balancing him out as well as complementing his already admirable strength.

Other:
  • Her other sister and one of her brothers have also taken up the blade and are decorated with tattoos.
  • Lorelei still tries to master this "web art" thing when she has a free moment, but finds that she still makes sloppy designs.
  • She has good defense and is able cause significant harm to others, however, Lorelei's size and weight make her slow.
  • When thinking or upset, she has a tendency to stomp one of her legs, similarly to how humans bounce their knees when sitting.

Name: Amunhotep Nenkhsekhmet

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Bisexual

Age: 24

Animal: Jackal

Abilities:
  • Tolerance to extreme heat
  • Ability to run up to 40 miles per hour for short periods
  • Excellent hearing
  • Night vision

Appearance:
Amun's animal half is about five feet tall and reaches around seven feet in height, and is covered in a short golden fur with longer black and silver flecks running down his back. On either side is a large black stripe, reaching all the way down to the base of his tail and ending at a black tip. His legs are long and lanky but muscular, complimenting his lithe body and allowing him to traverse long distances with little effort.

A black belt is wrapped around his waist that holds his weapons, the edges complimented by obsidian beads and a complex golden design sewn throughout it. of his tail as well.

Amun's skin is a dark tan, with long, wavy black hair that reaches down to his shoulders and is held back into a ponytail by a golden band, with various beads running throughout it. A short black beard runs down his jawline, culminating in a goattee that is kept neatly trimmed and clean. Draped around his neck is a usekh collar with an ornate scarab inlaid in the middle, and he otherwise wears no clothing except when travelling.

Magic:
Jackal magic is believed to be not channeled through themselves but through the Gods themselves, acting as a conduit in rituals and communication. However, jackals are best known for their ability to curse and bless amulets and other objects. Amunhotep's blessed scarab has the ability to sense evil or dark intentions of those around him.

Weapons:
He carries with him two long khopesh swords with him at all times, as well as a ceremonial dagger around his belt.

Culture:
  • Jackal culture is very religious and believe that the royal family are the living embodiments of a God, going so far as to worship the royal family and include the ruling male in their home altars. Not only do they worship multiple named Gods, but also worship the sun and moon as their own individuals and not under the jurisdiction of a single God. Jackals perform a sun ritual when it rises every morning, and celebrate multiple religious holidays. Priests are considered directly below the royal family in social standard, and right above the warriors.
  • Family is extremely important to jackals, going so far as to take only a single mate for life, though until they have dedicated themselves to a mate they are fairly open with their relationships and are encouraged to have multiple open relationships before dedicating themselves to one person. It is considered blasphemy to separate from this partner, and those who have are seen as punished by the Gods and shunned by their people. It is encouraged to have large family groups for commoners, but the ruling family typically has only two children at a time- one to rule the common people, and the other to lead the military forces. If one dies or is disowned, they will work to have another to replace them.
  • While jackals can speak a common language to outsiders, they prefer to speak their own language to each other which has yet to be understood by outsiders as they consider it a gift from their Gods. In battle they prefer to communicate by familiar barks and yips, which are much easier to communicate in the heat of a conflict.
  • Beautiful clothing, jewelry and adornments are very common for jackals, and beauty is valued for both men and women in an almost vain-like fashion. It is common to see makeup on both sexes as well. Trade in these items is what they are most well known for, and some artisans are well sought after for their work even outside the jackal community.

Personality:
Amunhotep is the first to listen and one of the last ones to speak. As the first born son of the ruling family, he has been raised in the art of listening and making decisions to further the prosperity of his people depending on the situation around him. While considered fair, he can also be somewhat judgemental and cocky to those considered below him- though he does occasionally attempt to keep this in check if it is innappropriate. Amun is extremely religious as he believes that he is the son of a living God, and carries that with him as a source of great pride.

As he has not dedicated himself to a specific mate yet, he is extremely open with his relationships. As his royal duty and society dictates he must marry within his own people, however, that does not mean he cannot form surface relationships with outside species as well. Amun has a silver tongue, and can be quite a smooth talker if someone catches his interest enough.

History:
Amun was born the son of Nenkhsekhmet and Aneksi-re-Amon, the ruling family in the vast and desolate desert Kingdom of Tjaru, and was raised with the full intentions that he would spearhead the military force as he grew older while his sister, Ahhotep, would care for their people and govern the masses.
His childhood was filled with strict discipline about war and strategy, and within him grew a steady rising hate for humans the more he learned about their history and their encroachments on their territories.

As he grew older and began to lead hunting and war parties himself, he witnessed firsthand the atroceties committed by man and vowed to wipe them off the face of the planet in the name of the Gods.Eventually entire villages and smaller jackal cities were wiped out of existence on the edges of their territories, and the Kingdom of Tjaru decided that in order to preserve their culture and save their people they would retreat from the outside world, cloaking their city in sand and magic to disappear off the face of the planet to those who would continue searching for it. As the years went by and the jackals continued to become self sustaining in their oasis, Amunhotep became frustrated and troubled at the idea of hiding instead of facing the conflict headfirst, although when he brought these concerns up to his sister- who now had taken over ruling for the Kingdom entirely- she argued with him, claiming that saving their people was more important than participating in some fool's war they were sure to lose.

Amun, refusing to accept that he would sit and do nothing while his entire way of life was destroyed, performed rituals and ceremonies for three days straight for success in war and for the prosperity of his people. On the fourth day he set out into the desert, vowing never to come back until the threat was over and he could return his Kingdom glory.

Other:
  • Amun loves to swim, and though they live in the desert, there are a few large pools to swim in at the royal palace.
  • He has a very, very low tolerance to cold and has never seen snow!
