The thunder crackled as the rain poured down the windows of the Bloodstone Hotel. A young guardian by the name of Graveyard who had recently became the head chef after his mentor left for a reason he yet had trouble understanding himself. He studied the menu in silence as a Fae by the name of Elle was carrying some of the materials he would need later. He gazed at the small female as she set the food across the counter, before rushing back outside to the main hall. His eyes looked over the fresh herbs, the various meats, vegetables, and fresh fruits he asked a wildclaw to deliver. Rummaging through the shelves, he grabbed a pot to make a rather huge soup - it was a recipe that was handed down from each head chef to the next. As he was sprinkling salt into the basil, cut up rat, and some fresh lettuce he heard a thud against the back door. Turning his head, he walked towards the door and opened it slowly.

Looking at the darkness and the heavy rain that hit the cobblestone path lead up to the back door, he saw nothing at first but when he grabbed a lantern to shine some light, that is when he noticed two unmoving bodies. He went to them as quick as his heavy body could carry, he lifted the two slender dragons inside which when he looked up his boss Freya. He watched as she checked the hooded limp bodies. He noticed that their was a male and female mirror and that is when a small whine came out. He lifted a part of the shaw and saw a small mirror with orange-red gems covering its body. Bending down, he sniffed the small mirror only to move away when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking over, the purple mirror with white gems covering her body gazed at him with tired eyes. Her wings were torn, her body was covered in ash along with burnt markings.

Lifting her up gently, he made a nesting area to put her in even though it was made of old towels and uniforms. He then gently picked up the small mirror who looked no more then a day old into the nest with his mother.

Freya asked, "Who are they? Where did they come from?"
Graveyard replied, "From the way they dress and the wounds that the female mirror has - I am guessing a region beyond our own."

The tundra nodded and looked back at the unmoving body of the adult male mirror. Her eyes shut as she said, "Will dinner be able to happen?"

Graveyard lumbered over to the body, sniffing it a couple times, he was quiet for a moment before saying, "I have a big pot of soup brewing but that is all I got done before these mirrors showed up."
He watched as his boss nodded and made her way out of the kitchen, he slowly put the male mirror on his back and went out into the pouring rain. He began to dig a hole beneath an old willow that resided on a hill not far from the Hotel. He wrapped the body in seaweed, as it was a custom he learned long ago while he lived in the mountains to help a deceased dragon decompose within the earth. With his snout he shoved the mud over the body before letting the rain clean off. Lumbering back to the hotel, he found the female mirror standing up and grabbing a bowl of the soup.

Her head turned suddenly as she dropped the bowl which soup flew everywhere around - startling the small mirror beneath her which scampered back into the nest. He watched as she slinked back into the nest and watched him with fearful eyes.

"Do not be afraid, I am not here to harm you. I am just a simple cook who lives in this hotel."

He said calmly before cleaning up the spilled soup and broken glass. Once finished he grabbed her a bowl and watched as she would chew the food before spitting it out for her son to eat. He smiled as he worked on serving the hungry customers, only to check in on his new found strangers every so often.

As three days went by, Graveyard noticed the female mirrors health becoming weaker - he tried everything that he knew but her body couldn't take the wounds she had endured. As he laid down beside her, watching her body shake and heave as she breathed, he said slowly, "I never got your name."

Her eyes shut as her tail curled around the small mirror, she murmured, "I am Sosoca - a female mirror from the tribe of Lilth Rock beyond the great forest, and this is my son Volcano. Please, as I am not able to make it - take him in.. as if he was your own.." Her words were soft but the last breath she drew only came a couple hours later. Graveyard silently buried this mirror beside her husband and put a single daisy down onto her grave. Turning his head to the little mirror who slept against his tail, he knew that he now had a responsibility to raise him.

The male had been found dead and buried, and the female was in too weak a state to get any information from her. He didn't like that one bit. Mortal wounds? Extensive burns? Very young hatchling? That could mean very bad things for the Hotel. What if their attackers were right on their tails and came barging in on the hotel, scaring away all the customers? What if someone discovered the graves and wanted to know why the Bloodstone Hotel now featured brand new burial sites complete with two dead unknown Mirrors? But, worse yet, Ichthys didn't like that Graveyard's attention was now divided from his duty to the Hotel. As Bloodstone's newly instated Sous Chef, Ichthys felt that it was his duty to remind his Head Chef that things still needed to be done, and that this strange Mirror child was not his responsibility. In fact, had Ichthys had his way, he would've taken the youngling into town and dropped him off at the exaltery to send off to be a monk under the Gladekeeper. As long as Graveyard was distracted with this tiny living burden, Ichthys remained dutiful to his Hotel and kept the kitchens in order, hoping that his Head Chef would soon lose interest and would turn his attention back to the kitchens and focus on how well Ichthys was doing as a Sous Chef. Which was very well, he would have Graveyard know. What he was looking for was uncertainbut it was apparent he wasnt finding it. He passed through town and headed out with directions from a stranger toward a hotel farther down the road. When the large stone hotel came into view, he ducked around to the back entrances, tasting the scent of cooking soup on the air as well as a taste of something much more rancid. his eyes landed on a small pair of graves hidden behind a distant willow tree up on the hill. Satisfied, he returned to the front entrance and stepped inside, checking himself in at the front desk. He politely asked the desk clerk to pass on his compliments to the chef on his soup, took his key, and headed off to his room.

He smiled backwards at the small mirror who chewed on his tail as his new teeth were coming in. Turning his attention back to the cook book, he recognized a couple of ingredients that were low. He walked slowly past a couple of dragons and went to his note book, which he then dipped a pen in and began to write the list down. His eyes traveled to his Sous Chef, Ichthys, who was talking to a group of dragons explaining some of the techniques. He picked up the small mirror and placed him inside his nest before leaving the kitchen and giving his note to a dragon by the name of Kenzel, a wildclaw who was well known for his speed. He handed him the note and said, "I am rather low on these items, I am hoping to get them two hours before the dinner service as I wouldn't want any unhappy customers." The wildclaw looked down at the paper, reading over the ingredients a couple times before going towards the front door. His eyes shifted to a pearl catcher who entered the hotel. The vibe he was giving off - it was something he had seen before but it wasn't like a lot of dragons here didn't give off that. He walked out and listened to the crackling of thunder, another storm was on its way. Hopefully the old hotel could take a beating. @wtfbruh

Briar sat in the security office, idly thumbing through news reports that had been delivered this morning from town. She read a small snippet about a particularly violent clan battle to the west with mild interest, familiarized herself with a new wanted poster to add to the stack, and turned her head wistfully to the clock on the wall. She sat back in her seat, tapped her claws on the desk for a bit, then made up her mind. Briar left the security office and headed to her new favorite place in the building: the kitchens. She pushed the door open and entered, a smile spreading across her face as she approached the small mirror nestled in his pile of towels and blankets. "Hey little man, how we doin? You stayin outta trouble, hm? Busy night tonight, Graveyard's got a lot on his plate." Ichthys busied himself with the usual preparations for a weekend dinner. Wait staff must be on their toes. Chefs must have clean stations and clean claws. Fires must be stoked and ready for early cooking. Ingredients must be cleaned and ready for use. He tapped his claws nervously as Graveyard handed a list to the Wildclaw runner. Kenzel was reliable and fast, but what if tonight was the night that something went wrong? A thousand scenarios of disaster flew through the Fae's mind, each more far-fetched than the next but each just asplausible to the excitable Sous Chef. What a disaster it would be if guests had to be told to order something other than their choice dish because the kitchen lacked the ingredients for it! Surely word would spread that the Bloodstone Hotel had subpar kitchens, which would of course drive the entire business to ruin. Ichthys longed for the eternally level head that his Head Chef seemed to possess. In fact, Graveyard seemed to worry so little that Ichthys was surely doing enough worrying for the both of them. He cast about for something to release his anxiety on; perhaps a younger chef was improperly using a vegetable knife, or a member of the wait staff was loitering instead of making sure the tables were set. While guests and hotel staff alike were preparing for the night's dinner, the unknown Pearlcatcher roamed the halls, discreetly peeking into hall closets, staff areas, and back hallways. He came upon the security office, found it empty, and ducked inside to search for some possible sign of the two Mirrors. He found a recent report of local warring clans, but found nothing further. No familiar faces in the wanted posters, no report of a Mirror family in bad condition, nor of their deaths. No mention of the child, either. Unsatisfied, he left the office and headed to the dining hall.

The small mirror looked up as he was chewing on a potato. It was something he stole off of the counter. Leaping up he dropped the potato and looked up at the female guardian. He flickered his tail side to side before pawing at her and brining her outside to show her his shiny rock collection. He tossed a blue one at her and put it into her hand before smiling and leaping back into the kitchen and going back to his nest as he went back to chewing his potato.

Graveyard looked up when he noticed Briar, he didn't say much as a waiter by the name of Aoraki a small female mirror rushed in. She looked frightened as she said, "I heard that Meir and Boo are coming and I don't know what kind of food they want.." The orange fur that the smaller mirror wore shook as she rapidly continued to speak. He put his hand on her head as he chuckled,

"They prefer rare steaks with a side of steamed vegetables and Boo particularly likes a little spice to her salad while Meir prefers his more of a sweet factor with his salad. Don't worry Aoraki I have served them before but I still will give them the menus just to see if they change their minds."

He then turned his head towards Brair and smiled at her as he moved some cut up onions into the pan, watching them sizzle before saying,

"Hopefully Volcano hasn't been too much of a troublesome little mirror. He is suppose to be staying in his little nest but knowing him, he would rather go outside and play in the grass."

The guardian shook his head before looking at Briar and smiling,

"How are things around the hotel?"

Briar followed the tiny Mirror outside and smiled at his rock collection. "Looks like you've got quite the eye for shiny things, kiddo. Oh, is this for me? Why, thank you." She accepted the blue rock and followed him inside, letting our a hearty laugh when he went back to his potato. "You want that thing cooked, little guy? Ha! I bet that's pretty crunchy." To Graveyard, she shrugged. "Things are pretty quiet today, I could take the kid outside for a bit so he's outta the way while you're cooking. How are things with you, settling into your role? Head chef is a lot of responsibility for a young man like you."

Ichthys looked up from scolding a newer chef about their messy station to see Graveyard conversing with the head of security, which was completely unacceptable, and so he rushed over to fix the situation. "You! Security. Out! We have ten minutes till doors open and we already have one unwelcome stowaway in this kitchen! Order must be maintained!"

Ichthys was appalled at Rim's sharp comment, and snapped right back at him. "The Head Chef has a job to do and that job isn't idly chatting with the Head of Security who has so carelessly abandoned her post! I am surprised our previous Head has let you slip by for so long with such a tongue, Rim!"

At Graveyard's comment, he seemed just as appalled. "Excuse me, sir! You should know that those with authority who neglect their position lead their people straight into chaos. Anarchy! If you fire me for simply doing my job, then the honorable Bloodstone Hotel has lost its honor! And all for what, a nameless orphan, whose parents were killed by Gladekeeper only knows who! There is no room for child rearing in your place of work, you're supposed to be our leader!"

Briar held out a paw placatingly. "Woah, woah there, deep breaths. Remember what old Head Chef told you, don't let your anger interfere with your duty. Kid's too young to be left to his own self. He's no trouble maker, ain't hurtin anything, Fishy."

As Graveyard turned away to check on Volcano, Ichthys sighed and rubbed his forehead. "You're right, deep breaths. You know I hate that nickname. Get out of here, go do your job."

Briar chuckled, backing out of the kitchen. "Alright, alright. No more fighting in here, you got it?" With that, she left to take her post at the front entrance, shaking her head.

Graveyard said, "Okay everyone stir the soup, get the salads ready - we have a whole service and two very important dragons waiting for their food." He grabbed the sheets of papers and began to call out the orders as he started a big fire to cook the vegetables. Watching servers taking plates out and none of them returning he was glad to see the service was going well. About halve way through rush though there was a server who dropped soup on a dragon who left abruptly. He frowned as many chefs were complaining about having to remake the food. He roared for them to get back into shape and continued to cut in some vegetables.

Volcano continued to chew on his potato, he then ventured out of the kitchen to behind the hotel. Looking up at the night sky, he watched the stars twinkling. He leaped onto a cricket or at least tried to. When he stopped, he had bumped into a dragon who was throwing out bones that no one ate. He poked the trash-can as his tiny tail flickered before he returned to inside the kitchen and buried himself under the multiple uniforms as it was the best place to sleep.
