((Hahaha, true ;D))
Ajax returned Nem, beginning to walk out towards the door. He paused when he noticed that the other woman had murmured to him, turning to see her doctoring the Kirlia. He felt something akin to repulsion at the scene, but turned away quickly before Mila could look up and notice.
She was a pokemon groupie, definitely. The Kirlia looked like a toy ballerina, with the shawl absurdly tied and drifting around his waist. Nem better not get any ideas from this.
"Ready, now. Lead the way, please."
The stands were already flowing with people jostling each other and talking loudly over one another. Ajax ducked an arm as it reached for someone across from him and pushed past another, keeping an eye on Mila to make sure that he did not lose her in the crowd.
With attire like that, though, it would be quite hard to lose her. Ajax caught sight of an assembly of suited men to the side- the entourage from Death Valley, no doubt- as they made their way to the lift that led to the lounges. He couldn't tell if the guest ringer was among that group, or perhaps in the prep room, but they were quickly obscured by the other crowds of people.
Finally, Ajax found an empty spot on the stands. He sat down, watching as the last remains of the mock battles were cleared away from the ring. The time on the marquee read 9:45. He sat silently, meditatively rolling his pokeball between his hands and waiting for the match to begin.
"Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we welcome you to the Second San Franscisco Sub-division, led by our most beloved Master Ceasar Lu! For this evening's match we have invited an esteemed fighter from the Death Valley district ring, widely known for its prowess with Ground types. So everyone, let's give it up for Sandbournnne!"
There was a reason Ajax had decided not to choose a title for himself- as frankly, they were all terrible. He held back an urge to smile as the crowd cheered, the roar lifting from all sides of the stadium, and leaned forward to catch sight of this Sandbourne.
The ringer who exited the prep room was donned in a great cloak that covered his entire figure save for his eyes. It swirled and shifted behind him as he walked up the stage, and Ajax was surprised he hadn't tripped over it yet. As Sandbourne climbed the steps, he suddenly and dramatically cast off the cloak, revealing a...
woman dressed in an olive-colored
outfit, with golden, nearly white under the floodlights, hair and deep green eyes. Ajax's mouth opened, before he caught himself and sat back, astonished gaze focused on Sandbourne.
A woman. Oh.
"And competing against her we have our distinguished local champion, here to defend his title, Maximussss!"
Ajax barely registered the familiar man- he'd seen Maximus in the ring far too many times to count, and Ajax was surprised his father hadn't retired the rather aged fighter yet. Nonetheless, the older man knew how to rile up the crowd, as he tore off his shirt to reveal a (still) extremely well defined musculature.
Ugh. He turned back to observe Sandbourne as Maximus bellowed at the crowd, tossing his shirt at a spectator in the stands before mounting the steps.
"The rules of this match are as follows: This will be a one-on-one match, single round. The first pokemon to be eliminated or the first competitor to concede will be the loser. You may now release your pokemon of choice!"
Sandbourne flawlessly tossed out her pokeball, the crowd murmuring with awe as a Tyranitar emerged. It rumbled, the sound resonating around the stadium, and let out a roar that made Maximus' petty yells sound like that of a little girl's. The crowd cheered, and Ajax took note of what appeared to be a metallic augmentation on its tail.
Weaponized tail extension, possible projectile capacity. As the Tyranitar finished its entrance, Maximus let his own pokeball fly from his hands.
A Rampardos charged out, letting loose trumpeting roar at the Tyranitar that towered over it. At the "Begin!" from the announcer, Maximus gave a flourish with his hand,
"Sparta, Headbutt!" The pokemon responded with another roar, lowering its diamond-reinforced crown and barreling forward. The woman shouted,
"Axis, Sandstorm!" Within seconds, the ring was obscured with a stinging yellow haze, causing Ajax to narrow his eyes with annoyance.
A coward's move, shouldn't have expected any more. Relying solely on the screens for a visual now, Ajax saw the form of Sparta falter and stop in his tracks as he struggled to look for the Tyranitar. He could hear Maximus hollering,
"Go to the edge, the edge!" The call came too late, however, as the shape of Axis suddenly came into view and bore down on the smaller pokemon. The Rampardos shrieked as the other's jaws came around his neck, and then was whipped off his feat as he was lifted clean from the ground. Sparta flailed and kicked, managing to messily catch Axis over the face with a claw. Axis roared, tossing his opponent down to the ground. The ring shook, sand billowing out from underneath Sparta and into the crowd below.
Ajax covered his eyes, coughing. He looked at Mila, grinning, "Worth the front seat view, eh?"
His attention was drawn away again as the Tyranitar gave another bellow of pain. Sparta had turned and slammed headfirst into the other's abdomen, and even at close range it sent Axis toppling towards the ground. He caught himself, however, and before the Rampardos could charge again, he sidestepped and caught the other pokemon by the head, shoving it into the ground. Sparta was all but sent tumbling head over heels, sliding to a stop a few feet away.
An interesting move, I must keep it in mind for Nem's final evolution, Ajax mused, making sure that Nem's pokeball had a gap to view the fight.
By now, the sand had largely cleared, allowing the ringers a clearer field of vision of their pokemon. Sandbourne cried out, voice ringing over the crowd,
"Axis!" The Tyranitar grunted, turning to the woman's voice and revealing where its armor had been dented by the Rampardos' attack. It heaved itself towards her, seemingly unaware as Maximus yelled for Sparta to get up and charge again.
Ajax rose up from his seat, muttering under his breath, "It's a trap, dammit Maximus, can't you see?"
Unfortunately neither did Sparta see the trap, as he swayed onto his feet, shook the pieces of concrete off his head, and rushed at the Tyranitar. As his opponent drew near, Axis abruptly whipped around, almost too fast for Ajax to catch, its tail drawing a loud CRACK as it smashed diagonally into the other pokemon. The crowd erupted into the cheers when Sparta went down again with a wail, slamming bodily into the ground.
"Rock Tomb it, Sparta!" Maximus appeared nearly in hysterics, pacing and jumping and sweating like a stick of butter.
Probably not the best for the old man's health. Ajax didn't expect the Rampardos to recover from a move like that, but he saw it twitch, then cough, and then the entire stadium floor began to quake. Axis paused, unsure, and at that moment jagged spears of concrete and stone shot out from the floor. The Tyranitar howled, hit by rocks from all sides. One look at Sandbourne showed that she was trapped as well, only able to watch as Axis was brought down to his knees under the crushing force of the rocks- but for some reason she had not yet conceded, as futile as her struggle seemed.
Seeing that his opponent had fallen, Sparta gave a victorious screech, and despite Maximus' hollering to stand back, had charged forward and proceeded to brutally pummel and kick at the fallen Tyranitar with his feet. He moaned and looked to Sandbourne, but she called out at him with a sudden urgency in her voice,
"Now, Axis...
Impale." Ajax's look of disbelief at the seemingly fake move was cut short as he heard a metallic sound not unlike that of Nem's blades as they unsheathed and tore through something. The audience suddenly went silent, and Ajax craned his neck to see what had happened.
The Rampardos lay limp over the Tyranitar, and now Ajax could see metal glinting from the protrusions that stuck out from Sparta's sides, slick with blood. The body shifted as Axis groaned under the other pokemon's weight, standing with effort to fully reveal the great metal spikes that branched from its body- including the ones that were sticking through the impaled Rampardos' form. The pokemon's dead body slid off to the ground with a dull thunk, and Axis turned to the crowd and gave a great, heaving roar that shook the very stands.
The audience
erupted, louder than ever, as they cheered and began to chant Sandbourne's and Axis' names in swelling unison. The woman gave a small smile and bow, returning her pokemon and walking off the stage.
Ajax got to his feet as well, muttering some half-hearted excuse to Mila before shoving away through the crowd. He needed to speak to Sandbourne about that Tyranitar (or maybe just speak to her, hmmm), and get there before his father and the entourage got to her first.
((H-holy heck, that was the biggest pokemon battle I've ever written, hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it, oml))
