Two figures strolled through the midst of the Tangled Wood, their own idle chatting floating lazily up to the canopies where no birds roosted. Unlike their home, this forest was sparse, making it much easier and less tiring to navigate. Most trees were a good distance apart, with few prodding limbs.

However, it did make the Skydancer feel somewhat exposed. The Tundra, on the other hand, couldn't have cared less.

"This place is dense, I figure we'll run across a post soon," the Skydancer assured, quickening his pace to keep up with the larger dragon.

"Oh, yes. Frankly, I'm surprised we haven't come across anyone yet," the Tundra added in, his voice so deep and rich it sounded like he was at the edge of a growl. It was quite a comparison to the Skydancer's high, narrower one.

"Be thankful we haven't come across anyone yet, Pivaon."

"Why?"

The Skydancer snorted, and patted Pivaon awkwardly on the shoulder as they walked. "Oh, there are plenty of sketchy characters around here, trust me."

Pivaon laughed deeply "You're warning me about sketchy, Foyam?"

Even the arm wrappings and white cowl that hid half the Skydancer's face seemed muted as he watched the pair wandering ever-closer to the castle, his startling crimson eyes narrowing slightly in the din. There was something off about the two strangers, though Sheik couldn't pick out exactly what it was. He almost wished that Jaf had taken the afternoon patrol, as much as the Wildclaw unnerved him. At least the other male was more in-tune with different magics than Sheik. The two dragons continued walking until they passed a group of trees and disappeared, though Sheik hesitated a moment before getting up to follow; silently leaping from branch-to-branch, gliding whenever a gap was too far to jump, the Skydancer tailed the odd wanderers with all the reflexes and grace of a cat, his presence still completely silent save for the occasional rustle of leaves that were disturbed by his passing. Whatever it was that was now causing Sheik's instincts to gnaw at his stomach, he had to make sure that it didn't cause any harm to the castle, or its inhabitants.

Even the arm wrappings and white cowl that hid half the Skydancer's face seemed muted as he watched the pair wandering ever-closer to the castle, his startling crimson eyes narrowing slightly in the din. Being very used to the rustling of leaves, both of them subconsciously passed it off as the wind, not accounting the fact that there were barely enough leaves around her to make noise to begin with.

Pivaon wiped at his eyes out of habit, leaving an almost unnoticeable, dark smudge against his fur. Foyam cocked his head, eyes squinted. "Why are you acting up?"

The Tundra wrinkled his nose, wiping his paw moodily on the ground. "It's fine. This place just sorta puts me on edge. Shadow terrain had always been weird." he explained, feeling a similarly off in his stomach. Sending an uncomfortable glance over his shoulder, he turned back to Foyam.

The Skydancer cleared his threat, looking somewhat uneasy as well. He wasn't sure if it was because of the Tundra, or that it felt like the forest was watching them. "Whatever. Just keep it to yourself, aight?"

Pivaon nodded. The castle wasn't yet in sight, but he was definitely able to feel energy that signaled a clan was near. He didn't know what direction, but a large mass of dragons isn't hard to miss, especially considering they were in a forest environment, even if it was a bit off from what they were used to. However, he didn't mention this to Foyam.

The crest of feathers on Sheik's head flared slightly before flattening against his head as he settled on a branch a small bit ahead of the pair just in time to hear that exchange clearly. His narrowed eyes, originally settled on the much more visible Skydancer, flicked to sharply stare at the Tundra instead. Whatever wrongness he could feel, at least he knew it was the Tundra to keep an eye on. But what part did the Skydancer play in this? A handler to keep the Tundra under control, perhaps?

Sheik shifted on his perch, claws scratching against the bark of the tree, and he visibly flinched and huddled to make himself less noticeable just in case the noise drew attention -- the pair was directly under his tree at the moment, they'd be deaf not to have heard the noise, though it was still unseen if they'd brush it off as easily as they had with the rustling leaves.

He'd noticed the glances from the Tundra as well, glad that they were directed behind rather than up. The Skydancer wasn't sure how keen the eyesight of the pair was, but if one stared at the canopy long enough, Sheik would most definitely be spotted; he only blended in well enough to be passed off with a glance, not so much if his hiding spot was scrutinized.

Pivaon's ears swiveled forward at the scratching, posture now alert. Foyam just jumped, eyes flicking in all directions rapidly. Geez, if anyone's on edge. the Tundra thought.

By there was no doubt that the sound had come from a beast. Certainly they would have seen someone if they came up on the sides, so that would mean...

The Tundra was the one who spotted the Skydancer first, the blue sticking out sorely against the duller colors of fading leaves. Out of habit, the Tundra shot her an unnerving, toothy grin. Bumping Foyam with his body to get his attention, he nodded upward to the trees.

Looking startled, if not anxious, Foyam's eyes widened as they caught on the other Skydancer, as if he were a hatchling caught doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing. Blinking rapidly a few times, he cleared his throat and waved, forcing his crest to stay at a neutral position.

Sheik's crest flared slightly at the grin and, if possible, his eyes narrowed even more. There was no point in hiding anymore since they'd spotted him, so he stretched from his huddled posture and flared his wings wide, giving a small flap to lift off the branch before gliding down to land in front of the pair. The lyre at his hip bumped against his leg slightly at the contact with the ground. His posture seemed relaxed, but there was a warrior's wariness in his tensed muscles. Red eyes flicking between the two of them with a distrustful sharpness, the small scowl that was forming on his face hidden behind his cowl.

The silence between them stayed like that only for a few moments more before Sheik spoke up, his tone as neutral as he could force it to be. "What is your business in this territory?" he asked, his voice smooth and a touch low, as if he didn't want to disturb the area around them with a raised voice. He was still wary of the both of them, the Tundra moreso than the Skydancer; now that Sheik was closer, the feeling of wrongness that had been gnawing at him had grown tenfold.

It was just Sheik's luck that he got patrol the one day that a pair of unnerving strangers wandered into the lands...

Foyam forced himself not to step back, but Pivaon looked almost at ease. It anything, he looked somewhat curious, if not questioning.

The Skydancer smiled shakily, eyes looking tired. "Just passing through, brother," he soothed, ruffling his wings. Noticing the tell-tale signs of unease, Foyam stepped in front of the Tundra casually. Seemingly unwavering, Pivaon stood solidly, not flinching. However, as Foyam moved in front of him, he suddenly became self aware and wiped at his eyes again. And, again, the back of his hand came away stained grey.

Now a bit cautious, he placed his talon back down, notably behind Foyam's. This place was messing with him, and the annoying Skydancer wasn't helping any. Still, a sort of hungriness gleamed in his eyes as he gazed at the opposing dragon. It was mixed with hard, glinting challenge as well, as if the Tundra were daring the new dragon to push it any further. Out of all the times his eyes decided to run... this place really did poke at him, but it felt refreshing, in a way.

Sheik's attention was caught by the Tundra's movements to wipe his eyes, the look in his own hardening slightly as he turned his attention back to Foyam, that expression never leaving his face. "Passing through to where?" Sheik asked, his tone a touch sharper than he meant it to be, showing how uneasy he was with this entire thing.

His eyes glanced from the Skydancer to rest back on the Tundra, gaze meeting that challenging look and returning it, as if begging the Tundra to start something so he could kick the both of them out. He didn't let his unease show once he noticed the more hungry glint in Pivaon's eyes, but his crest flared slightly before he settled himself. Sheik had been faced with a lot in his time, but dragons that thought him easy prey to take a bite out of was.... a new experience that he didn't want to come to fruition.

The less time that the pair spent in the castle territory, the better, honestly. There'd been odd happenings for the past few months, and this was the worst time possible for two odd-aura'd dragons to come along and stir things up even more. Whispers and talk of shadowy beings been seen in the castle halls at night had been causing unrest and nervousness, the last thing the Matrons would want is strangers poking about.

Foyam's snout twitched. It would be easier for both parties if this dragon would stop being so insistent and just let them go. He opened his mouth to retort back, but Pivaon couldn't hold himself back and spoke first.

"Just through, Skydancer," he pushed through gritted teeth, which were unknowingly, also stained grey around the edges. Nonetheless, he took a step forward past his companion, disliking the harsh tone the other dragon was using. Instead of just deep, his voice was also raspy now, causing Foyam's heart to flutter. They really should be going.

But Pivaon was on a roll now, and unbeknownst to him, a single, oily streak ran from the corner of his eye. Luckily for him, the area below his eye was black anyway, but with inspection, one would be able to see the watery gleam against fur.

Foyam looked alarmed; he could feel Pivaon starting to let loose, but at this point there wasn't much he could do without raising questions.

Sheik, in turn, instantly disliked the tone that the Tundra took with him and turned his full attention on Pivaon, the snarl on his lips hidden by the cowl. He straightened his posture, the feathers on his wings ruffling in indignation.

"Don't take that tone with me," he snapped, like he was scolding a hatchling. "There are many elderly dragons that live in the territory, there's reasons for me to be defensive about two strangers showing up with no prior warning, especially ones with such strange auras as yourself."

Thanks to both the staring match, and the Tundra wiping at his eyes before, Sheik did indeed notice the gleam of liquid against Pivaon's fur, his tone instantly turning suspicious. That definitely wasn't tears on the Tundra's face, and the liquid had been consistent, if Pivaon's habit to wipe his eyes said anything. "What's the matter with him?" Sheik directed the question towards Foyam, jerking his snout in the direction of the Tundra who he never let his eyes wander from, just in case an attack came.
