The Arcanist has long been known for his fascination with space, and indeed his attempts to get closer to the stars, but so far he has remained Sornieth-bound. But this Starfall, his children have taken it upon themselves to bring their deity to the heavens themselves! Dragons from all around have come to the Sornieth Space Center to observe the launch, yourself included. The place is bustling, with several groups of fae flitting past chattering to themselves, while a skydancer stands around near the entrance, looking agitated. The launch might be a little... delayed. Unfortunately we're short of a few crew members, because - well, I'm sure they'll be okay, but the launch window ends today! I just don’t know if we’re going to be able to find replacements in time...[/columns] Turning back to look at the gates of the space center, you see that one of the groups of fae have hastily plastered up a notice next to the entrance. It looks like it has been produced in a hurry. A number of the other dragons in attendance from the launch crowd around, but you manage to take it in before an imperial steps in front of the fae-sized sign, blocking sight of it entirely. Will you step up and join the crew of the Arcanist's spacecraft and fulfil his dream of going to the stars? What will you see out there in space? Can a spacecraft built by the Arcane Flight possibly get off the launch pad in one piece? There's only one way to find out... The Arcanist, however, is calm, and lays out several options for the crew to consider.
 • He has an old, dusty tome. Should he cast a spell from it? - It seems to be related to flight, but the effects of said spell are illegible. The Arcanist squints at the old runes, but cannot read the handwriting to say anything for sure.
 • There is also another tome, this one bright and shining. Should he cast a spell from it? It seems to contain spells that have never been tested before… The Arcanist flips through it humming to himself: it seems to be interesting one.
 • Or the Arcanist could use his arcane magic to manipulate gravity to free the ship from Sornieth’s pull. The only problem is, you know how The Arcanist’s magic can occasionally… make things worse.

Well, without bigger ones at least. You wonder how it would have been if you hadn’t gotten strict lessons in how to survive exploding Arcane energies...the training part of pre-flight briefing had been very thorough in that particular aspect and now you know why. The ship seems to have frozen in the air and for a fleeting moment you fear that the journey will end here and you will all crash back to Sornieth. In these few moments of silence, you’re not sure if the spell will work or not. Suddenly, the ship accelerates so quickly that everyone loses footing for a moment and scrambles to get hold of anything. But you make it into space. There is a strange pink rune by the spot of the explosion for the rest of the trip, glowing faintly. It takes a while to make sure that the ship’s components have not been damaged, but you complete your checks carefully and efficiently. After some immeasurable time travelling, there comes a shout from the navigation officer: there is a solar system in the distance! You all crowd into the cockpit to see the planets. At first they are just distant lights in the darkness of space, but after some time you can distinguish three. The engines surge once again and the planet gradually grows until it takes up the entire view from the cockpit windows. “Prepare for landing!” The cry goes out, and dragons across the ship scramble to their positions. You’re directed to a monitor tracking the trajectory of the ship, which you seem to recall from the briefing. As you watch it, the ship starts to rumble and shake violently - not to mention somewhat alarmingly - as it enters the atmosphere. The display flickers as surges of energy flash throughout the spacecraft. The officers share some of their snacks with each other, and one places a lucky trinket on the dashboard. The craft lurches and flips, and - suddenly - all the shaking stops. You notice that the engine sounds have ceased, and the display shows that - yes, it seems that the ship has come to a halt on the ground! “Sensors show the atmosphere is safe, sir!”, reports a pearlcatcher to The Arcanist, who seems to be positively vibrating with excitement as he gestures both to the massed crew and the airlock. “Excellent! v73TK2Y.png We’re receiving another message!

Ugh, this time it’s not letters or numbers: it’s all dots and dashes. I think I remember reading something about this before, though...

Today’s coded message:

- .... ./ .- .-. -.-. .- -. .. ... - / -- ..- ... - / .... .- ...- . / .- -. / .- -- .- --. . .. -. --. / ...- .. . .-- / --- ..-. / - .... . / ... - .- .-. ... ---.

The message was "The Arcanist must have an amageing view of the stars!"

You follow the ominous booming noise into the room on the right. It’s dark and your plant candle doesn’t light up the entire room; however, you can tell the sound is coming from the far corner. As you slowly make your way toward the sound, it becomes fainter and fainter, until it’s reduced to a slight “thump”, akin to a heartbeat. Your thrust your lantern out to see the source of the strange noise, expecting a slumbering beast. Instead, what you see is a bed of dark green weeds. They seem to be recoil at your lantern’s light - hiding the light makes the weeds grow and vibrate. The vibrations seem to create the booming noises. You take out a sample kit and grab a few pieces of the weed, shoving it into a glass jar. This probably hurt the weeds, as they shoot upwards and tower over you, vibrating furiously and roaring with rage. You grab your stuff and run down the underground passageway until you find your way to the hatch and therefore the exit, never once looking back. You quickly head out of the hatch and present your discovery to The Arcanist, who is delighted to hear of your adventure. “This is a fascinating discovery! I can’t wait to hear more about it! This has truly been the most enlightening experience. Alas, our time here draws to a close, for I must return to Sornieth for the finale of the Starfall Celebration.” Indeed, supplies are running short, and the group hastens back towards the spacecraft and prepares for the journey home. * * * The crew congregates in the control room, but there is a notable absence in its centre: the Arcanist, enamored by his new sample, retires to the rear to write down his adventures; along with several of his officers. In their absence, one of the other crew members must take the helm.
