It was early in the evening, with the day melting into the night. The sky was vividly painted with blues, purples, reds, oranges, and yellows – a canvas that could be admired by many dragons. The air was cooled by the few breezes blown inland from the ocean. The gentle laps of the waves from the Sea of a Thousand Currents were the only sounds that broke the silence of the beautiful moment. Along the shore, the land was covered with smooth pebbles. Further up shore, the ground was moist and cold, leading into the deep and dark forests of the Wispwillow Grove. With the sunlight dimming, a few lights seemed to appear amongst the trees, just as the stars were appearing slowly in the new night sky.
Slowly and gracefully, a couple of figures emerged from the ocean, slowly walking up the shoreline. The larger figure was a female Guardian, with her silver scales glistening with the red light of the sunset. Sapphire jewelry adorned her figure, complimenting her deep blue eyes. Her wings, of which she is named for, were almost indistinguishable from the dark blue waves around her. She moved with a slow elegance that made her appear to be waltzing with the waves.
The smaller figure was a male Tundra who was covered in battle armor. Although Tundras are known for the soft fur, his fur was more rigid and crystalline. In fact, the number of hues that illuminated his obsidian fur were more numerous than that of the sunset’s. His wings were of a brighter blue that resembled the splashing waters of a river. Unlike his mate, his movements were more deliberate and regal, probably due to his combat training and leadership skills.
Once they fully emerged from the water, they stood along the edge of the forest, appearing to wait for the arrival of others. The Tundra shook his fur before sitting down.
“Coldfur, for a water dragon, you sure seem to dislike being wet!” exclaimed the Guardian who was drenched by the water shaken off by the Tundra.
“My dearest Wavewing. You know that it’s not the water that is a bother, but it’s having the wind blow through my wet fur,” he replied with a shiver. “Hopefully it can dry a little before the others arrive.” Wavewing nodded, “We made it here a little earlier than expected. Luckily the currents were cooperative today. The Tidelord certainly smiles at this meeting between our clans.”
“Indeed! Hopefully we can become strong allies, even though we are from separate flights!” Coldfur said enthusiastically, “Although this is not only for strength of the clans, but also for sharing our cultures and knowledge.”
Wavewing gave a warm smile in agreement, and both dragons looked out as the sun slowly sunk beneath the horizon. Like the stars twinkling in the sky, the forest was dotted by the numerous glowing fungi. Suddenly, both of the dragons noticed two shadows moving between the trunks of the dense forest.
“It seems we have company,” commented Wavewing, and both dragons stood up to greet the incoming dragons.
