The moment he'd seen the Luge track, he'd know that he had to try it - and that was even before he'd seen dragons hurtling down at ludicrously high speed. It looked like he might even be able to get up to speeds faster than he was capable of in flight! Finally his turn came, and Jormungandr carried his sled up to the starting point, unable to stop grinning. He climbed onto his sled and pushed off immediately, using his claws to dig into the icy runway and push himself along before lying flat. The speed was incredible! He just managed to hold in a whoop of glee as he rounded the first corner and went hurtling towards the second. It was fantastic. The adrenaline rush was unlike anything he'd ever experienced outside of free-fall. The freezing wind whipped past him and he could feel the acceleration the further down the track he went, faster and faster, the corners getting more and more difficult to judge and control as the speed increased. He loved every heart-racing second of it. It was over far too soon. As he finally slowed and stopped and sat up to push off his visor, Jormungandr realised that he didn't even care if he got a medal out of it - he just wanted to do it again.

In fact, he had full confidence in himself for the Cross-Country Skiiing event. He knew it was a test of endurance, something he'd been working on ever since he was a hatchling just learning to dance. Even in the cold of Winter, his body moved gracefully as he navigated the course, going a steady, but quick speed towards the finish line. He wasn't nervous, no. He was determined.

Are you sure about this?" Sophie said as she looked over at Ella. "I mean, this sport is more suited for a Mirror. Or even Morrigan," she said as she tried to reason herself out of the joining Speed Skating. "Morrigan is on an expedition and the only three that would have done it are Prestige, Gale, and Cantre. They just got done with the Luge yesterday," the brightly colored Imperial said as she leaned down and brushed Sophie's ruffled feathers. "You'll do fine, my dear." The smile that lit up her face made Sophie's heart race. There was a reason she had picked Ella for her mate. She knew, with Ella's support, she'd be able to do this. "Okay. If you say so," she said as she leaned up and kissed Ella on the cheek. "Are your skates on tight enough? Helmet fitting right?" Ella said as she checked to see if the helmet was on tight enough. Sophie gently shooed her hand away and gave her a beaming smile. "Wish me luck?" "You don't need luck. You'll do just fine," Ella said. "Go get them, tiger!"

The recaps are a lot of fun to read! I feel like my rp-ing skills are not up to their usual standards this week. I think I'm out of practice. Cross-Country Skiing When Amihan heard that his native Ice Flight was hosting Sornieth's Winter Games, he felt obligated to show up and represent. Though not much of an athlete per se, Amihan was confident that his natural endurance and determination would see him through the long, difficult cross-country skiing course. And even if he did not do well, at least he could take satisfaction in knowing that he'd tried.

@JinxMoonstone When novelists compete, dragons do chatter! ;)

(Bet it doesn't surprise you that I'm the interim head of the Water Flight Writers, eh? :D )

Also, yesterday was the first time I've heard curling called "chess on ice"!

"For the last time," the individual growled, "You can't have two Tundra dragons as brooms." The Fae smiled at the exasperated dragon. "I don't think you understand!" she chirped animatedly, explaining it for the eight-or-so time. Her age had taught her many things, and one of those was how to speak Draconic quite unlike her fae bretheren. "They're Icefields tundras. They're very, very fuzzy! It would be silly for them to be using actual brooms when there's so much soft fur already there!" The registration booth dragon's head hit the surface of the desk with a dull thud. Then, they began to quietly weep.

We’re here! We’re here!” She kept flying higher and higher, and then just spread out her wings and floated on top of all the papers. She heard the dragon’s intake of breath, moving closer to her as if to protect all the documents. Cari pushed a wing out and declared, only somewhat theatrically as she lifted a lead and presented the paper to the dragon. “Not for Ski-Jumping! Do you know why?” She gestured closer and hopped towards the dragon behind the counter, “I heard only cheaters do ski-jumping! I always thought I’d be good at it! Excellent self-control, you see?” The other dragon looked unconvinced, and was busy trying to get all the files away before anything else happened. Cari watched her, almost stuck in position of flight, and then jumped over, waving the paper again. “You didn’t take it! I’m signed up for Luge! If I can’t ski my way and jump as high as I want without using my wings, then!” She paused again, peering closely at the dragon, “I’m still going to go as fast as I can possibly go!”

When he heard the other dragons talking about the upcoming Winter Games, he knew that would be the perfect time to show off, and Luge sounded pretty exciting. Speeding down icy slopes, like some kind of waveskimmer rollercoaster? Amazing! Who could resist such a slick, dashing young shark after he became the ultimate luge champion? And he would. Now, technically, he did not spend a lot of time training, but there was that time he spilled Carnelian's cooking oil all over the kitchen and slipped around the corridors, trying to evade security. And really, isn't sliding across the floor essentially the same thing as sledding across ice?
