JADE BEE LOG

LOG 1
So the inspiration for this whole project was this fodder dragon I saw while looking for dragons with the ringlets gene in a vague inspiration to start a koi dragon project.

While I never got into ringlets for the project, I did really like the way latte lionfish looked with the jade wings, though I wasn't a fan of the noxtide (yet). So I ran a few scries and came up with latte lionfish and jade bee, then spent a while going through all the filigree colors to see which one would be matchy and/or look good. It was a tie between ginger and dirt, but finally went with dirt because the filigree on the face was more matte and blended better with the primary color.
Unfortunately, the original inspiration had lower rarities in both the secondary and tertiary so I couldn't use that as a base (and it was exhalted by then), so I was forced to search the AH for suitable breeding pairs. Bee and filigree were pretty common, if not in the brown-green-brown range, but brown-green-yellow wasn't too bad and I could long jump the yellow later. Lionfish on the other hand was absolutely a fodder gene and thus had some poor color choices, so after like a week or so if searching I just went with a fire lionfish which was the closest I could get the the brown range.
Thus I had my first 2 pairs: Mari & Abernathy, and Nemeos & Hunter. I also got Julianne as a back-up colors breeder, and Santos as a future mate since I'd need to do a jump to get from yellow to brown range in the tert to get dirt, and from yellow to blue side of green range to get jade in the secondary.
jade bee
Mari & Abernathy jade bee - jade beeHunter & Nemeos
Once I got these pairs established it was time to run breeding card tests to see what was the best pairing for Santos. What I came up with probably wasn't the most efficient, but I just wanted to start breeding so I just went with whatever would give a chance at the final goal, even if said chance was a pretty small percentage. Which lead to these breeding cards:

The goal for Mari & Abernathy would be Latte Wasp/Jade Bee/Yellow Filigree, or as close to that as possible if as few nests as possible. Since I've bought them, they've had 5 nests with a total of 11 babies, and had a few get pretty close (see starred hatches in lineage), but this one from the fifth nest was the closest and I decided it was good enough.

Nemeos & Hunter's goal of Fire Lionfish/Hunter X/Orange X would be to pass on lionfish and get primary and tert closer to brown range and secondary to as close to green range as possible. The secondary and tert genes didn't matter, as long as they were rare genes to ensure Bee and Filigree would have a good chance further down the line. They had 5 nests of 13 babies total, but Marie was the only one who got remotely close to hunter for secondary color, and again I decided it was close enough.
So we have the 2nd generation of this project at Talbar, Marie, and Santos.
jade bee
jade beeTalbarjade bee jade beeMarie & Santosjade bee jade-
Breeding Talbar and Santos together would push the secondary further away from jade, but bring the primary/tert closer to brown range, whereas breeding Marie and Santos together would have a chance of getting final goal colors. So that was the gen 2 pair decided, with the goal of a female Latte Lionfish/Jade X/Dirt X. That baby would then pair with Talbar would breed gen 3 which would be the final goal dragon.

Marie & Santos have had 1 nest so far, and are currently on cooldown. They'll be able to breed 8/14 for a 8/19 hatch on their second nest. They've got a pretty long range, so here's hoping I get goal colors sooner rather than later!

LOG 2
Santos & Marie were put on a nest 8/14 and set to hatch 8/19 with 2 eggos. (e.) While the 2 hatchlings weren't what I wanted, the first born girl could work as a long-range mate to Talbar if I really wanted to brute force it and play with chance (the pair have something like a 0.01% of getting goal baby, dragged down by that wide tert range), but I'll hold onto her for now. The male hatchling on the other hand is just pure reject, sorry :/

This pair will nest again 10/4, but I'm also considering pulling Cassandra from the last nest and pairing her off with one of the Mari & Abernathy kids in the meantime. The percentage is still disgustingly low, but it's better than waiting for the pure RNG that is the Santos & Marie pairing.

LOG 4
A while back I bought Pumillo as a replacement for Santos since the color range was way tighter, and had the bonus of being a filigree tert. I retired Santos, and nested Marie with Pumillo on 10/15, to hatch tomorrow 10/20, and if things go good, I'll be able to breed with one of the Mari & Abernathy babies for bee secondary, and hopefully won't have to deal with too wide a color range.

Marie & Pumillo nested 10/15 and hatched 3 eggs 10/20. Though the color range was way better than the Marie & Santos pairing, these 3 at least were rejects, so the pair will nest again 11/8.

LOG 6
Pumillo & Marie nested 11/9 and had 4 babies 11/14. I had a hard time figuring out how to work with this batch; one I ruled out immediately for having glimmer, but then I spent a while messing with possible color ranges with the remaining 3 and the 2 Mari & Abernathy kids I had on hold.
Eventually the percentages said that none of this batch would be better than Cassandra from the Santos & Marie pairing. Still, I'll probably hold onto the first 2 kids of this batch since they have adequate range and goal primary/tertiary genes, at least until I see what Pumillo and Marie's next batch on 12/4.

Talbar & Cassandra nested 12/9 and hatched 4 babies 12/14. Surprisingly there were some very close-off elements in color or genes, just not all one 1 derg. The closest was the firstborn, who I'm going to hold in hopes of finding a mate to cut out the long color range issue with the parent pair. In the meantime, Talbar & Cassandra will nest again 1/3.

Talbar & Cassandra nested 1/28 and hatched 3 kids 2/1. None were perfect matches, rather they each were only had parts of the goal and none really had all the pieces. Funnily enough, 2 of the 3 kids had latte lionfish. However, I'm not really sure were I stand on the hold-sell-exalt spectrum for these kids, so they're in limbo for now while I figure out if I can get a better pair for goal colors and genes from the handful of dergs in holding for this project.

His colors don't match with any of the current kids I have available, but hopefully a future kid will have better colors, especially since Talbar and [jungle bee] have a bit too wide tert color range.

The colors were mostly alright, but none of the 4 had the right range or gene combo to pair with existing potentials. So, since this project has been kinda stalling, I decided to do a reshuffling of pairs using all current pairs, new purchases, and kids from the past few nests.
Since Pumillo & Marie weren't getting me a better match than Cassandra for Talbar, and since Talbar would always have a bad tert range, I decided to reshuffle the project pairs with a few backup dergs. Also, since Cassandra is related to Marie, I had to take into account nonviable pairings due to relations.
So what I got was pairing Talbar with a long held backup, Julianne, both of with have close enough primary and secondary ranges that the focus would be on getting a suitable tert range between the former's yellow and the latter's brick. The goal with this pair would be to get taupe/jade/dirt or as close as.

The 2nd pair would be Sampsen & Printha, which has a closer to goal range, but are mostly to pass on the lionfish gene. Still, color goals would be latte/jungle/dirt.

From there the two kids would mate for goal, and with the much tighter range, should hopefully get the right derg sooner than trying to brute force change it with long range RNG nests. Both pairs will nest 3/18.

LOG 11
Talbar & Julianne nested 3/18 and hatched 3 eggs 3/23. Colors were a lot closer to goal, though the tert still had a bit of range. The youngest kid actually would have fit really well with [umber lion], and would have cut the color range way down, but sadly both of them are related to Talbar as his kids. So none of these kids are useable, though I might consider holding the youngest for a potential mating with Sampsen & Printha's kids.

Sampsen & Printha also nested 3/18 and hatched 2 eggs 3/23. These kids were almost exact clones of their parents, which was pretty funny, if not particularly good for the project. Still, the oldest kid, Rixon works decently with a new potential I bought, Marlitha, so I'll give that pair a whirl while re-nesting these 2 on 4/12 for something closer.

Housekeeping before we start: did a bit of cleanup regarding bloodlines and names to keep all the active pairs straight and to hopefully cut down on dergs involved and consolidate some of the color ranges. Name changes have been backdated (both in this project and others), but without further ado, let's jump in!
Sampsen & Printha (formerly [sable opal] & [pumpkin fili]), nested 4/12 and hatched 3 eggs 4/17. While their range won't give me goal, I did get fairly decent pair of close range dergs as potentials if I could get a mate for them on the AH. They won't beat Rixon right now, so he'll still be the breeding male from this line though. I could retire this pair since I've already got Rixon, but might as well keep on nesting and see if I get anything better. This pair will breed again 5/7, or I'll repurpose Sampsen as a mate for Talbar & Julianne's kid.

Rixon & Marlitha (formerly [forest bee] & [spruce bee]) were the next to nest on 4/17 and hatched 3 eggs 4/22. Babies 2 and 3 were kinda duds, not having filigree, but baby 1 more than made up for it, being the closest to goal I've gotten so far. Definitely holding onto her and seeing if Talbar & Julianne can give me a suitable mate. Will still renest this pair 5/22, since I might as well, especially since the primary's a guarantee.

So, now that I've gotten the first set of nests hatched, I can play with probabilities and pairs a bit. Right now, I've got 3 gens of pairs set up:

Sampsen & Printha as the great grandparents to get a mate for Marlitha (current contender is Rixon)

Talbar & Julianne, and Rixon & Marlitha as the grandparent gens to get the goal parents (currently Xiyo and Kore respectively)

and Xiyo & Kore as the parent gen to get goal
Since the parent gen pair only has a 0.27% chance of goal, I definitely want to get a better percentage. To do that, I'd need to re-nest Sampsen & Printha for a latte/jungle(-hunter)/(tangerine-)dirt male to mate with Marlitha to get a latte/jade(-seafoam)/dirt(-chocolate) kid to mate with a taupe/jade/driftwood-dirt kid from Talbar & Julianne.
Of course, the percentages are kinda bad. Chances for a Xiyo replacement are 0.28% if disregarding sex, half that if male focused. A Rixon replacement is 4.66% and an Kore replacement is the best at 9.08% if disregarding sex, and 4.62% if female focused. The best our goal parent pair can do is 0.27% currently, and max 15% of all the replacements are the best possible colors.
So, looks like all 3 pairs will be re-nested to get better replacements, while Xiyo & Kore will nest 5/22 in a attempt at goal. As for all my holds/previous pairs, still holding on to a handful of them, but gonna through a couple on the AH/exalt row to clear space.

So back again with a new batch of PR: Jade Bee, and what a messy cycle. Sampsen & Printha nested 5/7 and hatched 2 eggs 5/12. Neither were better than Rixon as a replacement, so this pair is nested again as of 6/1. On the other hand, baby 2 was a multi-gaze!

LOG 14
So, since Marlitha and Julianne are both coatls to the rest of the project pairs' skydancers, the Rixon & Marlitha and Talbar & Julianne pairings are a bit slow and out of sync with the rest of the cycle, so much that the Sampsen & Printha pair has nested twice. Thus I'm starting log cycle 14 before I have the full set of babies from all 4 pairs, so I'll know which set of kids is from which nest.
First up is Sampsen & Printha, nesting on 6/1 and hatched 3 kids 6/6. Decided to simplify the culling processes to replace Rixon, and since non of the kids were a male latte lionfish, they can all be rejected. Also did a little housecleaning and removed a held derg from this pair's previous nest. This pair nested again 6/26, but I'll log that next time.

Rixon & Marlitha nested 6/26, and hatched 3 eggs. While latte lionfish is pretty much a guarantee, I got hit with both ends of the luck meter for tert colors, one girl being pumpkin glimmer and one being hickory filigree. The middle child, a son with sable filigree will be put on hold if Talbar & Julianne have a useful girl, but Terebinthia does work as a better match than Kore to mate with Xiyo.

Unfortunately, none of these six were good enough to be a replacement for Rixon; [caramel fili] almost made it, but having alloy instead of bee tanked the percentages. Don't know if I'm gonna breed this pair again, since I've got an almost goal color derg in Fangor through this lineage, so I should really just be focusing on the goal pairs and Talbar & Julianne's half of the lineage. Also this pair is the grandparent generation to goal, so really, dragging in a closer range replacement for Rixon in the parent generation isn't really gonna do much for percentages at this stage. If I did breed again, they would nest 8/23.
The next pair was Xiyo & Terebinthia on 7/26, who hatched 3 eggs 7/31. None were goal, but they did sell pretty well. This pair will nest again 8/20.

Finally, Talbar & Julianne nested 8/6 and hatched 2 eggs 8/11. Luckily, I got a somewhat acceptable derg for a new pair. Tivata will mate with Rixon and Marlitha's kid Fangor from the last nest, making the kids of both goal pairs direct cousins through the Rixon & Marlitha line, since Terebinthia and Fangor are siblings. The other Talbar & Julianne kid won't work as a replacement for Xiyo, so this pair will nest again 9/10.

Had to play catch up for the coatls this cycle, so Xiyo & Terebinthia nested twice, once on 8/20 for a 8/25 wegg, and once on 9/14 for 2 eggs hatched 9/19. No goals from either nest, so this pair will nest again 10/9.

Fangor & Tivata disappointed me with a single wegg nested 9/7 and hatched 9/12. It was super close too, 3 off primary, and the wrong gene, but otherwise would have been goal. This pair will nest again 10/12.

LOG 22
GOAL!!! After almost 2.5 years, finally got my oldest breeding project finished. I'll still need to give her a Lionfish primary, which is ironic since I got Nemeos (with his terrible color range) just for Lionfish, managed to breed it true all the way to the end, and still didn't get it on the final bab because I prioritized the colors over the genes. But before I do the retrospective, here's the last 5 nests from this project:
3 nests from Xiyo & Terebinthia, who nested on 5/16 for 2 eggs 5/28, 6/21 for 1 egg 6/26, and 8/1 for 2 eggs 8/7.

Alright, onto the retrospective. Stats-wise, almost 75% of all nearly 200 dergs in this project were exhalted or slated to be yeeted to the gods. Surprisingly around 22% of the dergs got sold, and the remaining dergs I liked enough to end up keeping. To be honest, I didn't expect the sell rate to go so well, but I guess as I got towards the later gens and the more forest-themed looking dergs, the sell chance went up.
Since this was my first ever project, I had some really bad pairings for the starting gens. The first 2 pairs all were wildly long range going from yellows to reds and just generally not being great. But I really wanted to start this project instead of waiting for something closer to pop up on the AH so they were what I had to deal with.
For the next few gens, it was really a matter of color correcting and breeding the desired genes true. Had a short-lived pair with Santos who was wildly wrongly colored before getting Pumillo to do the blue-range color correct. Then there was the issue of alloy breeding true instead of bee, so that took a while to fix. Ended up having to ditch most of my then gen 2-3 pairs and returning to a gen 1 kid, Talbar and finding new feral mates to clear up the range.
The A lineage from Mari & Abernathy ended up being pretty straightforward after cutting off the branches, only being 3 generations: Mari > Talbar > Sephassa. The B lineage from Nemeos was a bit longer at 5 gens: Nemeos > Marie > Printha > Rixon > Fangor. Still, with all the extra branching and unneeded pairs, I definitely bloated the project, and learned a lot on how to decide pairings for both color ranges and genes, and also when to really cut a derg for the next gen instead of wasting time and breeding a branch nest. The end really just came down to re-rolling the pairs for the right colors, but I got there eventually, even if I had to drop the genes in favor of the colors, since I could just use a Lionfish scroll to finally get this finished.
Overall, a good learning experience, but I'm glad this project is finally over :D I'll be selling or exhalting the majority of the breeding pairs, but some of the nicer color babs I'll keep for now.

LOG 1
Now this project was also a result of finding inspiration on someone else's dragon, namely this boy:

From there I tweaked a few this in the scrying workshop, landed on this:

before deciding that spines looks better sticking up from a mane and chose skydancer as the final breed (over imperial, which doesn't have as good a peregrine design).
I guess I got pretty lucky with this color combo since there were plenty of black-blue-white range dergs on the market and all the genes except peregrine showed in the search. Because of the better starting pool, I only needed 1 pair, [cyan imp] & Ashe, though I did get this boy as a backup in case the ranges went the opposite direction.

This pair's color range is much more manageable, and is only missing the peregrine gene, which I ended up just buying and will apply to the goal bab, but the cooldown on the imperial, added to the fact that he's part of another breeding project (Cyan Bee) means this one is taking twice as long. So far [cyan imp] & Ashe have had 2 nest of 6 babies, with quite a few one-offs or wrong breed/gender, and are slated to nest sometime in early September after the next round of PR Cyan Bee.

LOG 2
[cyan imp] & Ashe nested 9/8 and hatched 2 babies on 9/13. Unfortunately, both dergs were shale skink, so out of the running even before I looked at the rest of the colors/genes.

[cyan imp] & Ashe nested 11/7 and hatched 3 babies 11/12. Thought none of them would work out, but I just took a closer look and then checked the AH and I got a pretty decent gen 2 pairing out of the middle child.

Baikal & Aulea nested 12/7 and hatched 2 dergs 12/12. Right off the bat I had to reject them since neither were lead skink, so this pair will nest again 1/1. Saying that though, the male SD was just 1-off the goal, and only needed the charcoal to be lead and then I could have gene changed to secondary for project completion. :/

I had Baikal & Aulea on one last nest 1/4, which hatched 4 eggs 1/9. Unfortunately, while there was 1 viable baby that had the right secondary/tert colors and genes, and was closer to lead than charcoal, it was only by one at flint. The other 3 were duds, and so I'm retiring this pair.

Raynor & Silverclaw nested 1/15 for 2 eggs hatched 1/20. One of the babies was actually goal, but had uncommon eyes, so I'm going to try again with Aoteryx for rare eyes. Both babs were also just shy of goal, being female instead of male. Still, with Sialis to provide a closer range, I can retire Aoteryx.

So, I'm kinda at a dilemma with this project. I've got a derg with goal colors and uncommon eyes from the Raynor & Silverclaw nest back in January, and I'd just need to change the secondary gene to peregrine and apply a vial to change the eyes to common to finish this project. I also got a derg with goal colors and faceted eyes from this most recent Sialis & Silverclaw nest on 7/14, hatched 7/19, except it's an imperial so I'd need to breed change to a skydancer.
The cost is greater for the imp, and the DID isn't as nice as the skydancer kid, but it's faceted eyes! As for the SD kid, common eyes aren't as bright as faceted, but the change cost is cheaper, and the DID is less messy. So, the dilemma. I should go with the older kid, but I'm kinda leaning towards the imp. And that'snot even considering if I should renest Sialis and Silverclaw, which I might end up doing anyways on 8/13. I'm probably just going to put everyone on hold and think about it for a bit, so it's going to be in completion limbo.

So this project's been on hiatus for over a year now, mostly because the pairs were really good at giving goal babies, and I had the rare issue of having too many options to choose from, mostly because I kept nesting for significant dates and somewhat for eyes, but I finally buckled down and chose a goal derg.
The reigning winner ended up being the January baby, which I feel works better for a blue-themed dragon than Halloween, and had a better ID as well. As for eyes, I ended up changing to common eyes to make them brighter/show up more, but didn't care to shell out for facet. Once that and the peregrine secondary were applied and the apparel and skin added, Lumio was all done and ready to join the flock!
Looking back on stats, this was also a pretty small project, just over 50 dergs with a handful that were shared with other projects as well. Sales wise, this project was actually pretty bad with the majority being exhalted and only a handful actually sold. Still this was an early passion project so I'm glad it finally got finished and I got to add a new dolled up pretty to the lair.

LEAD SKINK LOG
- LOG 1
- LOG 2
[cyan imp] & Ashe nested 9/8 and hatched 2 babies on 9/13. Unfortunately, both dergs were shale skink, so out of the running even before I looked at the rest of the colors/genes.

- LOG 4
Baikal & Aulea nested 12/7 and hatched 2 dergs 12/12. Right off the bat I had to reject them since neither were lead skink, so this pair will nest again 1/1. Saying that though, the male SD was just 1-off the goal, and only needed the charcoal to be lead and then I could have gene changed to secondary for project completion. :/

While there was no new dergs for Baikal & Aulea, I did decide to get a mate for my one off Raynor in Silverclaw. Also ran a probability check for this pair and got a whopping 10-ish% chance of goal, which is the highest I've ever had for any project pair. Their breeding card is below, and they will nest 1/15.
- LOG 6
I had Baikal & Aulea on one last nest 1/4, which hatched 4 eggs 1/9. Unfortunately, while there was 1 viable baby that had the right secondary/tert colors and genes, and was closer to lead than charcoal, it was only by one at flint. The other 3 were duds, and so I'm retiring this pair.

Raynor & Silverclaw were put on a nest 1/15 for a 1/20 hatch of 2 eggs, but as a back up, here's the breeding card for Aoteryx & Silverclaw as well:
- LOG 7
Raynor & Silverclaw nested 1/15 for 2 eggs hatched 1/20. One of the babies was actually goal, but had uncommon eyes, so I'm going to try again with Aoteryx for rare eyes. Funnily enough, both babies were lead skinks as well, even though the primary range was the biggest concern. Aoteryx & Silverclaw will nest on 2/14.

There's an average of 16% chance for goal, so hopefully this time next month I'll have another project complete. Here's their breeding card below:
Aoteryx & Silverclaw also nested 4/15, and hatched 3 eggs. While the pair didn't get goal, funnily enough they had a kid that was a twin of the elder kid of Baikal & Aulea's nest, save for the eyes. Both babs were also just shy of goal, being female instead of male. Still, with Sialis to provide a closer range, I can retire Aoteryx.
