Uncharted Territory

Three young dragons attempt to create a new clan in the mysterious Arcane lands after getting separated from their families. However, they are unaware of the dangers posed to a small group of untrained dragons. Together they must each put their past behind them and learn how to survive in this new land.

Welcome to my pinkerlocke! I'm very excited to see what Pinkerton throws at me and to see how it affects the story. please don't kill my characters Pink

Without further ado, the rules:

Rules from here
Quote:

Basic rules:
 • A death in the coliseum = that dragon must be exalted. This is the most essential rule of a nuzlocke.
 • All loot obtained in the coliseum is irrelevant, as is the loot obtained from gathering.
 • There are no restrictions about applying apparel to your dragons. Do whatever makes sense to you. Same goes for familiars.
 • Ping or message me if you take the challenge ;p (you don't actually /have/ to but I'd love to see how it goes!)
 • And, most crucially, all nuzlocke activity corresponds with the loot you obtain daily from Pinkerton's plundered pile!
Optional sentimental rule:
If a dragon reaches level 25 it "retires". It can join the ranks of your main lair.

Drops of Fate:

Food: Coliseum time!
Plants: 10-20 matches
Insects: 20-30 matches
Seafood: 30-40 matches
Meat: 40-50 matches

Choose from one of these two rules:

Hardmode: You must select coliseum challengers in your lair using a random number generator. Then, select the coliseum arena that corresponds to the highest level dragon of that group (For a 'medium' mode, select the venue that is one tier down from that of highest level dragon). If your dragons level up while in an area, you can still stay there for the whole day. You can quit your battle streak at any time to regen health, and flee from battles if it is appropriate. Don't try do 50 matches in a row unless you want a wiped-out dragon!

OR

Easymode: Choose whichever team and venue you want and go for it. Running from battles, using health pots, and ending the battle streak is fine, as I explained above.

(These ranges can also be altered to suit your level of activity/personal preference.)

Materials and trinkets: Flex your creative muscles!

Note that there is currently a glitch in which Pinkerton mislabels materials as trinkets. If you obtain a "trinket" from Pinkerton, double check to make sure its not actually a material!

Materials: Do some writing for your nuzlocke. How does your new nuzlocke clan change and develop? What are your dragons like personality-wise? How do they get along? How do they die? Is there an antagonist in this nuzlocke, or are they merely struggling against the forces of nature? Write dragon bios! Make a blog, or a thread for your challenge in the creative forums! Write short stories or paragraphs, or add to one big one adventure!

Trinkets: Do some art for your nuzlocke! Digital or traditional, use whatever medium feels best for you. Draw deaths. Draw dragons. Draw humanized versions of your dragons (if that's your sort of thing). Draw familiars and dragons together. It doesn't have to be that good or elaborate. If you make a nuzlocke thread, post your art there.

Obviously, you might not have time in your day to do something creative. If that's the case, don't worry about it. This challenge is meant to be fun and heartwrenching, not a chore.

Rare drops: Wildcards

Familiars: Buy the cheapest dragon in the auction house of a specific breed. Use a random number generator (between 1-15) to determine which breed you will get! (Optionally: attach the familiar to the new dragon.)

1. Fae
2. Guardian
3. Mirror
4. Pearlcatcher
5. Ridgeback
6. Tundra
7. Spiral
8. Imperial
9. Snapper
10. Wildclaw
11. Nocturne
12. Coatl
13. Skydancer
14. Bogsneak
15. Gaoler

Apparel: Breed two of your dragons. The dragons you pick are up to you. You can also change one of the genes on a dragon, or use a scatterscroll if you are rich and crazy.

Note: You must flip a coin for each hatchling once they hatch. If tails, the dragon is dead and you must exalt it. This is in keeping with the origional Nuzlocke thread's rule, because I really like it.

Battle items: Uh-oh!!!

Flip a coin.
Heads = DEATH STREAK
Tails = Nothing happens

DEATH STREAK rules: Randomly select three dragons using a random number generator. Fight in the coliseum using the "food" rules 10 rounds consecutively (ie. you cannot leave that arena), quitting midway if a dragon dies. If you are using the easymode rules, switch to the hardmode rules for battlestones.

(Note that the 'death streak' needs to be tested for deadliness. It should be pretty deadly, but not totally impossible.) After testing, it seemed to work as intended! Survival depends on your willingness to be both lucky and cautious.

Starting out:
Using the method I detailed in the "familiar" possibility above, obtain a small number of dragons (I suggest 2 or 3). If they already have names, keep the name! If not, name them whatever you like. The challenge starts once all of the dragons, if they are hatchlings, grow into adulthood.

Alternatively, choose 2-3 existing dragons in your lair to participate. This has certain advantages (eliminates the need to wait for maturity and breeding cooldowns) but also some disadvantages (less random=less exciting).

You may want to "partition" your nuzlocke dragons away from your regular dragons so you don't get them mixed up.

Losing:
If your dragon count falls to zero you have a few options
1. Declare the challenge a "loss" and give up
2. Wait for Pinkerton to drop a familiar
3. Just say "welp" and buy another dragon from the AH without waiting for Pinkerton because you lack patience.

I'm Breeze by the way, you?" "Ember, have you got anything in that miracle basket of plants to stop this pain?" He tried again to stand up, actually managing it this time for a few seconds before falling back on his side again. The wildclaw reached into her basket again and pulled out another strange plant "of course, eat this!" Ember did as she said and tried to get up again, finding his leg hurt a little less than before "thanks," he gasped, beginning to limp towards Wind territory "well then, let's go find your home." ------ Kuiper didn't know what to do. He was alone now, he never had been before. His classmates had been ambushed on their way to the Arcane lands for their study trip, and he had left them. Kuiper had been tasked with hunting for the group whilst they set up camp, he came back to find all of them dead. Claw marks were everywhere, on the ground, on his classmates and now on his heart. He had checked all over camp, nobody had survived. The young mirror tried to push away the memory, but the blood on his lab coat kept his mind going. He checked the surroundings for heat signatures, nothing good. He gathered a small pile of leaves and hid himself under them as a makeshift den. Trying not to cry, he glanced up at the stars barely visible in the dying sunset. As he drifted off to sleep the scene at the camp drifted back into his mind, I will complete the study for you, even if I have to travel to the Observatory alone. ----- ----- Alright! Here it is, the start of the story. Day one will be tomorrow, Pinkerton better not give me a battle stone. Once Breeze and Ember find Kuiper, the story should pick up a bit more as today was just introducing the characters. "really? You don't remember where you live? Oh wait you're a tundra! Of course you don't! Um, how about we ask around, where is the nearest town anyway?" Came the confused reply. Ember sighed, his silence seemed to be all the wildclaw needed. She turned to face the Windswept Plateau "you don't know do you, well you can come with me! I can't find my home either, maybe you can help me. I'm Breeze by the way, you?"
"Ember, have you got anything in that miracle basket of plants to stop this pain?" He tried again to stand up, actually managing it this time for a few seconds before falling back on his side again. The wildclaw reached into her basket again and pulled out another strange plant "of course, eat this!" Ember did as she said and tried to get up again, finding his leg hurt a little less than before "thanks," he gasped, beginning to limp towards Wind territory "well then, let's go find your home."

Kuiper didn't know what to do.

Alright! Here it is, the start of the story. Day one will be tomorrow, Pinkerton better not give me a battle stone. Once Breeze and Ember find Kuiper, the story should pick up a bit more as today was just introducing the characters.

She checked his leg again, it still trailed behind him but at least the wounds looked better now. I know as little as you do." Breeze looked back at Ember, who was still frozen in place atop the hill staring down at them. "That's my friend, can he come meet you too?" she asked, Kuiper nodded in reply and she gestured for Ember to come down. Breeze saw the mirror stiffen once he noticed her friend's limp. After a while, Ember finally made it down and introduced himself "Greetings, I'm Ember, you?" "What happened to your leg? Oh and I'm Kuiper" the mirror trailed off "You don't remember, correct? Don't your kind have terrible memories?" Wordlessly, Breeze joined him and eventually Ember did too until they had finally dug a hole deep enough and buried Kuiper's classmates. Kuiper bowed his head and struck the ground with a small bolt of lightning magic, leaving a mark very similar to the lightning emblem across the grave. The three dragons said nothing else, each building a small shelter to spend the fast approaching night in. Breeze watched Kuiper leave his den once the sun had fallen and stare up at the distant stars for a while, she could tell he was muttering something but she wasn't sure what. She started to feel drowsy after a few minutes of watching him and missed the moment when he went back to his den. ----- Finally Pink let my starting characters meet! What a strange dragon he thought with a quiet laugh I'll miss them both when I leave for Arcane territory.

Ok so I was going to have them leave for Arcane today, but I remembered Kuiper and Ember had barely interacted, so here they are. Ember really needed to apologize to Kuiper before agreeing to follow him all the way to another territory after all.

It had only become colder as the snowstorms swept inland, most dragons now chose to leave the Icefield altogether as even the warmest parts became swamped with snow and ice. There weren't many plants in ice territory, but there were enough to feed the large population of Tundra but this smelled endless, like a whole continent of plants she'd never imagined. He roared in pain, but desperate to finish the fight he delivered the killing blow to the Bumble below him and scanned the clearing for other enemies. There were none, they had won. Then he collapsed, his vision blurring as the pain from his leg flared through his body. Before he fell into the soothing darkness, he heard Kuiper and Breeze give matching cries of fear and shock. ------- Cliffhanger! Cliffhanger!

Pinkerton actually made my dragons fight for the first time, I won't explain the battle yet as it'll give away Ember's fate.
