Well guess who can't cook but still wants that great badge! Lore/ discussion question it is (which is fun anyways).

My clan is new and still growing, so there's generally just one or two dragons taking care of each job. The main gardener of the clan is Bridget. She has an extensive vegetable garden which provides most of what the plant-eating dragons need, as well as some flower gardens which in many cases provide food as well. Another main food provider is Mareriona. As a guardian, she knows the best food to eat of all types, but mostly her job is hunting, which she excels at due to her training in the coliseum. Fittingly, Wave does much of the clan's fishing. There are no specific dragons assigned to catching insects, since the plethora of these creatures around the clan's lair means that those dragons who wish to eat insects can easily find their own meals. This is also a task often assigned to hatchlings to keep them busy and useful.

Originally she just wanted to learn about the beast clans and other creatures that lived near or in her clan's territory. Through her interactions, she has made many friends amongst the beast clans and has begun to find ways that to work with them and her clan for eaches benefit. Her actions have also brought many smiles to her clanmates faces as they get to better know the individual personalities of their new companions. Seeing these reactions have further driven her forward in expanding her search for new familiars. As a result, of Hyla's quest, she has little time to her self, but the rewards are more than worth it to her. Wednesday Recipe: I prefer to eat fruit as is, but there is plenty of ways I like to cook veggies. One of my personal favorites is stir fry! When I make stir fry I tend to use whatever vegetables I have on hand or that are left over from previous meals. My personal favorite vegetables to use in stir fry are mushrooms, zucchini, and bell peppers (except green since they tend to have a stronger flavor that can overwhelm the other vegetables), onions, garlic, and broccoli. I start by cooking the onions and garlic, then I add the vegetables in order of their cook time. I tend to end with mushrooms since they can get somewhat rubbery if cooked too long. When the veggies are done I'll add some sort of sauce (normally soy sauce) and serve them over rice.

Wednesday: Lore Question

My Clan is divided up pretty well between Stargazers, Scholars, Fighters, and Magic Users, with all dragons in the Clan pitching in to help out with food. They don't actually have a garden, or a pen area for animals, but go out to gather what they need when they need it. There is a rotation, involving all the dragons, with all meat-eaters assigned to go after animals, all plant-eaters assigned to forage for plants, and so on. This means, of course, that dragons like the Guardians, who eat more than one kind of food item, will be on more than one "Gathering List." The Clan thinks this is only fair, and the Lists are staggered so no one dragon ends up being sent out on consecutive days--or even consecutive weeks.

That being said, there are a few dragons who truly enjoy acquiring food. Chief among these is Lughnasadh. A fairly young dragon, she is absolutely fascinated with games and contests, and has a very peculiar magic talent that enables her to almost always win anything she tries. She didn't start out dedicated to Gathering. In fact, when she was younger, she would avoid like the plague any chore at all, and especially hated those chores that took her out of the caves, away from her precious Gaming Cave. A few months after Loo was born, however, the Clan Mother had a brainwave, and proposed to the Gathering Group that day--which included a very reluctant Loo--that they make a game out of the Hunting task, with the dragon who brought back the most meat for the Clan getting a special prize. Lughnasadh's eyes lit up, she raced out of the cave...and rest is tasty history. :)

Wednesday:

I posted my crab cakes in the Dueling Chefs thread!

Clan Lore:

Greenfell Clan has multiple food sources. Gaia, the herbalist is in charge of a large community garden on the outskirts of the clan's territory. She also runs a smaller greenhouse with some more specialty plants, most of which she uses for her work but some of which are edible delicacies used in special treats for the clan. There is a small crew of regulars who tend the community garden daily, but everyone is welcome to help out and grab whatever they need. Since the clan's move to the Gladeveins it's been possible to farm their seafood as well so they maintain several small canals where kelp plants grow that are also filled with fish and various types of molluscs. There is a dedicated contingent of hunters who bring back meat and insects for those whose diets run that direction, and Dynamene, a technomage who originally hailed from Lightning has devised a rather ingenious method of keeping their meats cool so they last longer.

Lore Discussion:

Y Draig Teg is fortunate to have Llawen as it's master gardener. As a plant mage, she very seldom loses any plants to diseases or unseasonable weather. She does recognize that each plant has its own life cycle, with which she seldom interferes. As the apprentice to the clan healer, Teilo, she grows herbs for healing and cooking, as well as food and decoration. She is helped by a half-blood Forest Spirit, Ysbrydgwyrdd, the clan beekeeper, Gwenynwr, and their daughter, Asur. As the garden continues to grow, Llawen may need to gain more help. There are still foraging groups that go out, as something new can always be brought back to the garden.

The clan's Mirrors and Wildclaws make up the heart of the hunting parties. Aerfen is the hunters' shaman, often divining where the best hunting grounds will be before they leave. The clan's Bogsneaks, Una, Ludwig, and Etura, take turns tending the flock of chickens for the clan.

Delyth is in charge of selecting clan members to catch insects. The exceptions are honeybees and ladybird beetles, as both are essential to a well kept garden.

Y Draig Teg does not have a section of water set aside for farming seafood. It has been brought to the attention of the governing council; however, it was decided that more research needed to be done. It is a project that the Coatls and Snappers are working on.
Lore/Discussion Question: We're talking about food today! How does your clan obtain food? Maybe your clan lives off of food they find foraging. Perhaps your clan has a large community garden, or even a group of hunters that supplies the entire clan's needs. Tell us all about your gardeners, hunters and foragers!
Gathering food is a full-time job for several of Clan Twinstar's members, and others volunteer to help out whenever necessary. Seacrest is in charge of the clan's gathering operations, and he makes sure everything that's brought back to the citadel is of some use to someone. There is also a large garden in the citadel's courtyard watched over by Eveleen, the Arcane Gardener, though it is more often used for growing ingredients for alchemy than for providing food.

Thalin makes rounds tending wild flora.

Wednesday lore:

My lair is huge, so naturally with a lot of mouths to feed there needs to be a lot of dragons gathering food. My main clan, the Clan of Roaring Waters, has a large garden tended to by Fiera, who grows fruit, vegetables, and herbs in it. At first there wasn't a large selection - not all plants can grow in a greenhouse environment, especially not one located hundreds of leagues underwater - but as the garden and Fiera's skills grew, so did the crop variety. Frostbite is my clan's rancher, raising chickens and goats for eggs, milk, meat, and wool. There are also several plant gatherers, insect catchers, hunters, and fishers who go out and collect food to bring back to the clan. But the biggest source of food has to be the warriors. Whether it's training Exalts or simply hunting in the Coli, they fight countless monsters and return loaded with the spoils, including plenty of food. The warriors often bring back more food than the clan can eat in a reasonable period of time, which is how Asha, my clan's merchant, got the idea to start selling food to other clans for more money.

Then there's my other clan, the Siren Kingdom. Since they live on a giant ship, most of their food comes from fishing and from the small garden that Rhiannon takes care of. Sometimes Hunter and Benthic will leave for a few days on a hunting party and return with freshly-caught prey or some deep-sea creature that looks like it was pulled from the bottom of the Leviathan Trench. For food items they can't catch or grow themselves, like sugar, flour, seasonings, dairy, etc. they usually buy them using the money earned from pearl diving and fortune-telling.

The rest of the dragons in my lair are hermits and wanderers - they either hunt and gather their food themselves, or they beg/buy a meal off of strangers.
