Rule modification:
1) After looking through other people's legacy challenges, I decided to pick the hatchling heir myself, though. I got too many projects already to end up with a triple basic or something, heh.
2) Because this makes the challenge easier, I won't buy mates worth more than 10kt, ever

@SparrowStrider
He's starting to grow on me XD

When buying his mate I was tempted to pick the worst one possible just to see how weird I could get, but I settled for a "last chance" instead. If all goes well I'll get a nice blue-green Fae with Jupiter genes. If not, at least I'll have one unique dragon.

@DawnsNewDay
I hope so XD It'd be the funniest thing if the entire challenge end up being a success, though at this point I almost want his heir to be as bad as possible, just to see where I'll end up.

And welcome to the challenge! Can't wait to see the results. Light is a good element too, fairly popular (at least it was last I checked) and I can image there being a wide variety of dragons to chose from. My challenge has plague as the element which means lots of red dragons and few green ones - not so good when your babies are from nature.

@LuneLight
Can't wait to see your dragons too!

And good choice on the rule modification. While there's a certain charm having to pick the first hatchling as your heir it can be incredibly frustrating if your luck is bad. Having spent over half a year on a challenge and ending up with a seventh male fae that's not even fully gened is just a little grating.

I'm starting this challenge! The cheapest Gen 1 was a Nocturne, which felt like cheating to start with one already of quite a rare breed, so instead I bought the pre-named Nectris who is auburn/leaf/heather and all basic. I'm sticking with the "first hatchling is your heir" rule even though I've seen people complain about it, because not following the rules would make me pretty anxious [emoji=tundra sad size=1] Here's his mate, I called her Angel, an orca/moon/smoke Pearlcatcher with tiger/current/underbelly: I want to end up with a dragon who is pink/purple so I chose her as her white/grey colours are all next to the pinks on the list. The challenge was started around the beginning of February, taking about six months to complete. It's a full classic run, meaning no choosing heirs. Overall I'm pretty happy. Though this lineage wasn't particularly lucky in terms of results (most frustratingly being stuck with a fae all the way through), it gave me both my very first multi-eyes and facet. As for Vesuvio... while I wish she was fancier, I'm pretty okay with her. Colors are alright, abyss makes for an excellent secondary and I'm a huge fan of the murky greens so it's right up my alley. Plus it seems the RNG gods decided to cut me some slack and gave her one final gene upgrade before the challenge ended, transforming bar into jupiter. She also has those rare nature eyes I love, which is a nice sendoff since I'll be moving back to Ice soon and won't be getting those anymore. That's the end of that. I still have my second challenge and look to start a third soon, this time choosing my own heir. Update: Looking at it I've been spending all this time transforming a red plague dragon into a green nature dragon. It wasn't my intention, but in hindsight it's perfect.

My favorite way to decide the heir is through battling in the coliseum. I like using the rules from: http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/qnc/2044950#post_2044950 (Battle rules are posted below.) @SparrowStrider Maybe you could add this as an alternative option?
Wait for these dragons to grow up because they need to be adults in order to compete in the Coliseum. Do not sell or exalt any of them in the meantime. Once they are adults, they will be forced to battle in order to determine who carries on the legacy -- and yes, this includes the dragons that made no genetic progress! Some general rules for these scenarios are as follows: --- 1. You must keep a battle streak going, even if your dragons level up between fights. This is to prevent you from inputting points into areas that would allow one contender to be more likely to succeed over another. 2. You cannot use any sort of potion or spell on your contenders to heal them or boost their stats temporarily. 3. You cannot alter the contenders' starting battle stones. 4. When a contender faints, they are considered defeated or dead, and thus disqualified from being your heir. 5. For most of these scenarios, a third level-one dragon may join in at least one battle streak. This will be called a "coach," and if they faint, it has no effect on what happens. You may also alter their battle stones beforehand, if you so wish. This is optional, as you can go into a battle with less than three dragons, but recommended to extend the drama. --- Now, depending on how many hatchlings your nest had, here is how the battles will occur... ~ 2 Eggs 1. Send both of the contenders (and the coach, if using one) to the Training Fields. Begin your battle streak. If you use a coach and they faint first, keep going; they have no effect on the final outcome. 2. Keep going until one of the contenders faints! The survivor will carry on the legacy. 3 Eggs 1. Send all three of the contenders into the Training Fields. Begin your battle streak. 2. When one of the contenders faints, keep going. They may look alive, but they have been officially disqualified. 3. When another contender faints, you may stop! The survivor will carry on the legacy. 4 Eggs 1. Send the first two contenders by birth order (hatchlings 1 and 2) into the Training Fields (with a coach, if using). Begin your battle streak. If you use a coach and they faint first, keep going; they have no effect on the final outcome. 2. Keep going until one of them faints. Set aside the survivor for now. 3. Repeat step one, but with the final two contenders by birth order (hatchlings 3 and 4). If you used a coach for the first round, you may either re-use the same one or pick a new one. 4. Keep going until one of them faints. Set aside the survivor for now. 5. Take the victors of the first two battle streaks into a new streak (with whichever coach you prefer or a fresh one, if desired). You can only give a coach stat points before this final round! 6. Commence the final battle streak with the winners from the first two and keep going until one of them faints. The survivor will carry on the legacy. 5 Eggs 1. Flip a coin. If it lands on heads, then the middle hatchling (3) will be in a trio with the first two hatchlings (1 and 2). If it lands on tails, then the middle hatchling will be in a trio with the last two hatchlings (4 and 5). 2. Whether the trio goes first or the duo and the coach go first depends on which group the middle hatchling ended up in. If the coin landed on heads, then the trio goes first; if it landed on tails, then the duo goes first. Either way, the group with the first two hatchlings in it goes first. 3. Perform the battles in each group as follows: For the trio group, take the three contenders to the Training Fields and begin a battle streak. Like with the 3-egg nest, the first fainter isn't ushered out between streaks; though they will appear alive, they are disqualified upon fainting. Keep going until a second dragon faints. Set aside the survivor for now. For the duo group, take the two contenders (and a coach, optionally) to the Training Fields and begin a battle streak. Like with all battles that may have a coach, whether they faint or not doesn't matter. Keep going until one of the contenders faints. Set aside the survivor for now. 4. Once the two survivors in each trial have been selected, bring them (and the coach from the duo group, if applicable) to the Training Fields once more. Begin your final battle streak and keep going until one of the contenders faints. The other one is the sole survivor and will carry on the legacy. 6 Eggs A six-egg nest is technically impossible in the normal challenge, but if you use the Try Weggain optional rule, then it could happen! In such a case, here is how the heir would be determined: -- 1. The dragon from the first nest and the older two dragons from the second nest become a Coliseum team and follow the three-egg nest battle rules. Continue the battle streak until two of the three dragons have fainted at least once. Set aside the survivor. 2. Repeat the first step, but with the youngest three dragons of the second nest. 3. Once the two survivors in each trial have been selected, bring them (and a coach, if desired) to the Training Fields once more. Begin your final battle streak and keep going until one of the contenders faints. The other one is the sole survivor and will carry on the legacy. [\quote]

@CinnamonThief

Well, that wasn’t a terrible end, although I am sorry that your secondary was still basic. I loved your point about how it started with plague but became nature. Too cool.

@DawnsNewDay
I'm surprised I never got a secondary upgrade. I can understand being stuck with a fae, but something like speckles or stripes not being inherited is a streak of bad luck.

And that way of deciding the heir sounds really cool! Maybe I'll borrow it for a future challenge.

Of course I couldn't help but root for Blackberry with her two upgrades, but I would have been okay with Eggplant and his eye upgrade. To my horror attack after attack kept being directed towards Blackberry and then Eggplant. Emerald wasn't hit once. Then, Eggplant went down. He was out for the count. Blackberry was barely holding on. Then... they leveled up and everyone's health filled back up making Blackberry and Emerald neck and neck again. Of course Eggplant was up and running too, but he had already been disqualified from being heir since he had been knocked out. So, once again attack after attack was aimed towards Blackberry, but she held on fighting with all she had. Then they leveled up! Finally, Blackberry and Emerald were on even ground, when suddenly a Frosted Pocketmouse came onto the scene. In three fell swoops it had killed Blackberry. Emerald is the 2nd generation heir. *sigh* Figures. I went onto the AH and found this lady. She's kind of a hot mess, but the offspring possibilities looked good. What is the score for the new "innocent" eyes? Just want to make sure my spreadsheet is correct. Thanks!
