By now most have seen the Shadowbinder, so perhaps they are nearing the end. [Attic] You find an 8-sided die lying in the middle of an empty room. It looks suspiciously like a piece of Shadowbinder's new dice set. Upon picking up the die, you suddenly become aware of a large set of double doors you hadn’t noticed previously. After pocketing the die, you slowly, cautiously, open the wooden doors. They’re heavier than they look, but exactly as creaky as expected. You’re straining hard against the doors when suddenly they are yanked open from the other side. You stumble to the ground and find yourself looking at a pair of very large feet. As your eyes scan upward, there is a pair of armored knees, a torso covered in heavy plate, and finally a head with glowing blue eyes set behind an armored helmet. A great golem made of iron stares down at you. [columns]The golem keeps its distance at first, watching you carefully, but as soon as you bring out the Shimmering Pinecones, the construct lunges at you. That was close, but at least the pinecones seem to get its attention. You drop one on the ground to see what the golem will do. Whatever you were expecting, it wasn’t this. The golem rushes over to the pinecone and rapidly eats it, scattering a few little splinters on the ground. Seeing your strange, but usable chance, you drop the rest of the Pinecones and leap into the air. As the golem crams Pinecones into its face, you land unsteadily on the creature’s helmet. You grab, and pull. Beneath your claws you can feel the helmet give. WIN[nextcol]___[nextcol]You sprint and fly around the creature. It’s faster than it looks, but you manage to stay just ahead of it. You spin it in circles a few times, and with some well-timed twists and turns you find yourself behind it. With a few powerful wingbeats you lift yourself above its head and grab the helmet. Beneath your claws, you can feel the helmet give. WIN[/columns] Eleven (11) dragons defeated the golem ----- [Cages] The room extends to your right, with a lever at the end. Something small floats above the lever. Upon closer inspection, you realize it is a 4 sided die. Perhaps one of Shadowbinder’s? You reach out and take it, but when you look up from the die in your claw, you see your other claw has pulled the lever already, as if it had a mind of its own. A pair of massive doors open before you. Before you is a truly titanic cage, and within it stands the Shadowbinder herself. Shadows congregate around Her, despite that the room itself is bright. There’s a nice, big, red button next to you, which the Shadowbinder gestures toward. You press the button. The cage swings open. Shadowbinder emerges. And so do dozens of tiny little skittering creatures crawling along the ceiling. [columns]You scatter your snacks behind you as you run. Sparing just a moment to look back, you see the swarm closing in. It seems to hesitate at the food, then envelops it. Shadowbinder trots beside you, quickly overtaking you. She picks you up with Her rear claw as She passes and begins to take flight. From your new view, you can see the swarm crowding in behind you, only briefly slowed by the snack. When you look ahead again, Shadowbinder is heading straight for the wall. You flinch, but there’s no impact. The dragon god opened a portal before Her and drags you through it. WIN [nextcol]__[nextcol]You quickly place the Shadowbinder Idol in the cage where Shadowbinder was contained. The real Shadowbinder glances at you, then at the Idol. At Her glance, shadows converge around the Idol and take on a full scale shadow version of Her form. The creatures slow their approach, and surround the illusory god. With their attention directed elsewhere, the real Shadowbinder nods to you, then a portal opens beneath your feet. WIN [nextcol]__[nextcol]You quickly place the Idol in the cage where Shadowbinder was contained. The skittering creatures don’t seem to pay it any attention. You turn to run, but they have you surrounded and Shadowbinder is nowhere to be seen. Just as they are about to overtake you, a portal opens beneath your feet. LOSE[/columns] Seventeen (17) dragons distracted the creatures and escaped with the Shadowbinder. One dragon (1) was unable to deceive the swarm. ----- [Slime Laboratory] You find a single 12 sided die sitting on top of a table. Could it be one of Shadowbinder’s? When you reach toward it, it vanishes. After a moment, you begin to wonder if anything you thought you saw was really there. To your right, bars blocking the path forward suddenly lower and the door on the other side slowly swings open on its own. In the next room, there is a great tile mosaic in the floor of the Shadowbinder. It’s impressive work, but more importantly, there are dice scattered on top of it. Shadowbinder’s dice. The ones she seemed to use to get to this world to begin with. If the spell can be undone, hopefully it should transport you back home for good. [columns]As you pick up the dice, a long-haired grey cat appears. It seemed to come out of nowhere. The cat silently pads up to you and looks you right in the eye. You bend down to look at it and maybe pet it, but it steals one of the dice from your claws. It sits down and looks at you. The dice begin to glow, both the ones in your claws and the one in its mouth. It’s eyes are glowing too, and soon you are blinded by the light. WIN[nextcol]_You gather all the dice in your claws. Admiring them, you shift them back and forth. As they click together, a faint light in the dice grows stronger and stronger until it’s blinding. WIN[nextcol]_[nextcol]There seems to be some kind of change in the dice as they are put with the Pinecones. There’s a gently pulsing blue light. It’s like they’re resonating. The glow fades, and the dice lighten to a pale lavender. Suddenly, there’s a bright flash of light, blinding you. WIN[/columns] Fifteen (15) dragons activated the dice, causing...something. To be continued… ----- Below you will find the collection of in-character choices offered by adventurers, in the order described above. Something. Though fighting a golemn wasn't exactly at the top of Soyonzur's to do list. Teensy was growling beside her, hunched low and flashing his impressive fangs at the golemn. Despite his readiness to fight, Soy wasn't certain a direct attack would do much good. Distraction. This called for a distraction. The pinecones had worked before. Perhaps they would do so again? That is, at least, what Soy hoped for when she tossed ten more of those things at the golemn and made a quick dash for the helmet.

[columns][nextcol]Some of the pinecones still in his claws, Veris acts by instict rather than thought, when the golem reaches out to him. He throws them to the side, surrounds his opponent on the other and then attempts to get that helmet![/columns]

[columns][nextcol]She seemed rather surprised at the golem's reaction to pinecones but it worked and she wasn't about to not take advantage of it. As she reefed off the helmet though she finds herself in yet another one of the rooms of this strange place. As she sees the dice she doesn't ward herself with Glittering Spinxbands those where meant for predators not spells. Instead she hopes that by adding just a more little magic from home she could use it to return to her clan besides it seemed to have worked well before... hopefully it will work just as well this time. So she places some shimmering pine cones among the dice.

[columns][nextcol]Crystalline shouted in triumph as the golem's helmet came off in his claws, but his yell quickly turned to one of surprise as he was dropped into the Slime Lab, the dice in his talons. He turned it over in his claws, puzzled -- did it have something to do with him appearing in this room? He shook his head and pocketed it again. Crys turns to find a 12 sided die on the table -- would this one teleport him as well? -- but it disappeared before he reached it. Oh, well. He turned to search the rest of the room, but bars lowered across his path. "Dammit," Crys growled, and turned to the door that opened onto the mosaic. "More dice?" Maybe they could send him home! He pulled out another pinecone. If they interacted with magic from the Tangled Wood, perhaps the dice could send him back. He placed a few by the dice.

[columns][nextcol]The heavy gauntleted hand of the iron golem swung through empty space as Fortuna ducked at the last second, surging forward past its knees. As the golem recovered its balance and began to turn to face her again, she readied herself for a fight, thinking frantically back on golem lore. She didn't have her bestiary tucked into her mantle, and anyway pulling it out now would probably be a mistake. But she had read the volume cover to cover, searching for information which would be useful in her divinations, and as the golem moved forward again she remembered with a snap of her talons what the bestiary had to say about golems. The Golem, no matter the form, always adheres to the instructions written upon its head. She ducked another swipe and backed up a step, digging now in her mantle for the infinitely useful currency she had brought with her on a hunch Destroy the instructions - the word - and disable the Golem. The golem lumbered forward, its heavy iron leg causing the floor to shake. Fortuna recited a prayer for luck in hurried breath and scattered a handful of pinecones across the floor in front of her. The golem regarded this new threat to its chamber with blue eyes glowing like a hot cooking fire as Fortuna beat her wings in a few powerful strokes to rise into the air. It bent its great head to the floor, swiping at a pinecone with a dull furnace roar as she snatched the helmet from its head, preparing to strike at its forehead. Instead of retaliating, though, it ground to a stop, the glow in its eyes. Fortuna blinked at its head, then at the inside of its helmet, where a single runic word was scored into the metal. Oh. That wasn't so bad.

[columns][nextcol]Well. Eating wasn’t exactly how he would have expected the golem to react to pinecones, but Xolotl supposed he hadn’t expected much to begin with. He dropped a few more pinecones on the ground and leapt for it when the golem leaned over to grab them. He wasn’t much of a jumper, however, and found himself scrabbling for a hold on one iron shoulder. With a grunt, he threw a wing over its side and and got a hold on part of the thing’s helmet in his jaw, yanking hard. It came off with a satisfying pop, sending him toppling back onto the floor. The golem was down. That was easily one of the stranges fights I’ve ever gotten myself into. The room went black and Xolotl felt the rush of falling for the upteenth time that day. Another portal. When another dungeon room appeared he didn’t bother looking around at first, but rather started shouting at the empty air. “I think I’ve had quite enough of these bloody portals! Illusions are one thing, but I do not appreciate being carried off to this and that place on someone else's whim!” Of course, the empty air had nothing to say back to him, and Xolotl supposed that he would have to deal with another portal to get back to the Tangled Wood, anyway. He glanced at the die sitting in his palm. Half his pinecones were gone, but at least he still had that talisman. Another die sat in front of him on a table. Maybe? Nope. The table and die vanished as his paw passed through him. That was more typical of the Shadow magic he knew- he could work with that. A set of bars lowered nest to him, drawing his attention. He passed through the now opened door into a room with an enormous mosaic. He could appreciate the carftdragonship of such a thing, coming form a clan of artisans, but had to wonder of it had been built by hands or by another working of shadow magic. And there, strewn on the floor, were more dice. He was still suspicious of just what these dice may do if he interacted with them, but what else did he have to work with? Xolotl took out the remainder of his pinecones and laid them out if the floor with the dice. They seemed to do something to the golem, so maybe their magic could help him here, as well.

[columns][nextcol] Phew, that took a while. Finally the golem falls under Idalyn's constant flying in circles around his head and the helmet falls to the ground. A few mutters of words and her mirror image disappears. Just as she is picking up the die that had dropped out of her hands, everything goes black. The new portal dumps into a new room, a frown crosses her features for a minute as she realizes she isn't back at the festival. "Great..." She mutters as she looks around the room and sees another die on top of a level. This time she is more cautious and doesn't immediately take it until after scanning the room. As she takes it, she fips the level and curses. Doors open and she waits to peek around them, eyes wide in shock as she sees the Shadowbinder. The button is motioned to and she nods dumbly, and presses it. As creatures appear and move across the ceiling, it is clear this was a trap. "Oh no, I'm sorry." She exclaims and runs back out of the room like the floor will probably change underneath her. She turns and realizes that the floor didn't change, but the creatures are still moving towards them. Ack, what did I do? What do I do? She thinks and begins rummaging through her bag. She just doesn't have any offense right now, and she can't kill them all with her single sword. Her talon touches something wet and she pulls out a mass of dead eels. "Eew! What was that doing in there?" She throws the eels back towards the creatures and digs around again looking for something. Where is it? Surely I packed it.
Boss Battle: Swarm
[columns][nextcol]Shadowbinder! Oh well, Mother wanted it pushed sooo.... *PUSH* Her cage opened! That was good. But now there were creatures swarming in? That's not so good? Kaleth fumbled for a moment, unsure what to do, but knowing that he wanted to get out of here, and take Shadowbinder with him. A distraction! He got out some bugs, the only snacks he would have, and threw them at the creatures that were swarming in. The goddess took off and started flying straight towards a wall. "Ahhh! Watch out!" Nightshade yelled, before closing her eyes. When she opened them again, she was in another room entirely. She hadn't felt anything at all when they'd apparently hit the wall, but the Shadowbinder was gone again. Why had she abandoned Nightshade here? The Imperial spotted another one of these strange dice sitting on a table, but when she reached out to grab it, it vanished. Nightshade was starting to freak out a little now. This place made no sense at all to her. Moving into the next room, she found hundreds of dice lying on the floor. They had to be important somehow- Nightshade could sense strong Shadow magic emanating from them. Maybe they could help her somehow, but what if her Arcane powers clashed with theirs? She started to worry that she might never get home again. Reluctantly, Nightshade pulled out a few pine cones she'd collected before she'd gotten sucked into the portal and began preparing a ritual with them. She wasn't entirely sure what she was doing, but really, this was an experiment. What could possibly go wrong?

[columns] [nextcol]The lever pulled open a pair of doors for them, where once they walk in are greeted with a most ominous presence encased in an incredibly large cage. In the cage, The Shadowbinder Herself greets them, shadows surrounding Her despite the brightness of the room. She gestures towards a red button by Unknown's side, as if commanding him to push it. He momentarily fights back against his body's movements, he tries to gain some time to think, even if it's just a few seconds. When in dire need, even Unknown can communicate telepathically with Gloomwillow thanks to their strong bond, he tells them that he does not know what to do, he can't fight a Deity! It's too much for a mere dragon like him. Gloomwillow does their best to reassur their now panicking friend - The Shadowbinder likes tricks and games, and this seems like a game in which they much play along - they can't disrespect a Deity. So whatever happens, they both should play along and see where it leads them. He calms down enough to be able to think properly, time is of the matter 'cause as soon as he lets go he ends up pushing the red button and dozens of small skittering critters crawling down from the ceiling fill the room, while the cage enclosing The Shadowbinder opens, with Her emerging from it. While Gloomwillow flies around the room in an attempt to distract the horde of creatures, Unknown remembers that he still has the purple amethyst. The only thought on his mind right now is that while he understands that he must play the game, he can't fight a Deity, and who knows how many of these skittering vermin will fill the room to attack them. Hopefully the amethyst can give him something to help him fight back, 'cause he's not sure if his Arcane Magic will work now during a battle; would the dungeon let him use his magic? The amethyst seems to listen to his wish, and he ends up summoning a Shadowbinder Onyx Idol with a spell he has never used before that replaces The Shadowbinder with the Idol.

[columns][nextcol]Coppice couldn't believe her eyes - the real Shadowbinder, right here, trapped in a cage? But there was no time to gongoozle. She quickly pulled the level to free the Shadowbinder, but the strange shadowy creatures surrounding them were already moving - possibly to recapture Shadowbinder and Coppice as well? Coppice knew that she would have to distract the creatures somehow if they were to escape. She tossed a Shadowbinder Onyx Idol, hoping that its resemblance to the deity would be enough to fool them. His yelp prompted Eada to notice the creatures that emerged in response to the Shadowbinder's escape. Kellmite did the first thing that came to mind and quickly started flinging whatever was on his person. Given his brief time at the festival, a lot of it was snacks. No dragons have yet escaped the dungeon, bounced around by blinding lights and more of those portals. By now most have seen the Shadowbinder, so perhaps they are nearing the end.

[Attic]
KAIujsq.png

You find an 8-sided die lying in the middle of an empty room.

The golem keeps its distance at first, watching you carefully, but as soon as you bring out the Shimmering Pinecones, the construct lunges at you.

WIN
___
You sprint and fly around the creature.

WIN

Eleven (11) dragons defeated the golem

[Cages]
DLkCPGY.png

The room extends to your right, with a lever at the end.

You scatter your snacks behind you as you run.

WIN
__
You quickly place the Shadowbinder Idol in the cage where Shadowbinder was contained.

WIN
__
You quickly place the Idol in the cage where Shadowbinder was contained. The skittering creatures don’t seem to pay it any attention. You turn to run, but they have you surrounded and Shadowbinder is nowhere to be seen. Just as they are about to overtake you, a portal opens beneath your feet.

LOSE

Seventeen (17) dragons distracted the creatures and escaped with the Shadowbinder. One dragon (1) was unable to deceive the swarm.

[Slime Laboratory]
7X86Af5.png

You find a single 12 sided die sitting on top of a table.

As you pick up the dice, a long-haired grey cat appears.

WIN
_
You gather all the dice in your claws. Admiring them, you shift them back and forth. As they click together, a faint light in the dice grows stronger and stronger until it’s blinding.

WIN
_
There seems to be some kind of change in the dice as they are put with the Pinecones. There’s a gently pulsing blue light. It’s like they’re resonating. The glow fades, and the dice lighten to a pale lavender. Suddenly, there’s a bright flash of light, blinding you.

WIN

Fifteen (15) dragons activated the dice, causing...something.

44097126.png Crystalline shouted in triumph as the golem's helmet came off in his claws, but his yell quickly turned to one of surprise as he was dropped into the Slime Lab, the dice in his talons.

30045934.png The heavy gauntleted hand of the iron golem swung through empty space as Fortuna ducked at the last second, surging forward past its knees.

She ducked another swipe and backed up a step, digging now in her mantle for the infinitely useful currency she had brought with her on a hunch

Destroy the instructions - the word - and disable the Golem.

2414739.png Well.

The lever pulled open a pair of doors for them, where once they walk in are greeted with a most ominous presence encased in an incredibly large cage.

"Who in the ever-loving HELL keeps stealing my sh--personal belongings?!"

As Curio's ranting drifts up to form a blue streak over Beachrock Boardwalk, a tent flap...flaps, innocently enough, over a box of festival currency, and a stack of pinecones disappears under it with a noise like the last few drops of a milkshake. There is a boss fight happening elsewhere, needs must.

Boss Battle: Cursed Dice

Plus she mayyyybe collected sphinxbands...
She left most of the bands in her satchel, but took out a couple, just in case...

23426593.png As exciting as all of this has been, Galeru can't help but feel relief as soon as he sees the dice. It's time to get out of this place and return home. These dice are probably the easiest way to do just that.. right? Besides they're really cool looking and he's got some friends that would love to hear the story of where they came from!

13837999.png Lieja groans as she returns to consciousness, her rage having long ended. Quickly checking to make sure all her frogs are still there, she stands up, immediately feeling a rush of dizziness. She's clutching the die, she notes, the octahedron pulsing with a strange glow. Out of the corner of her eye, she catches a flicker of movement - it's another one! She reaches for the d12, feeling some sort of odd connection to it, but it vanishes as soon as she gets near.

The sound of scraping metal causes Lieja to whirl around. Thankfully, though, it isn't another golem or anything of that kind, and Lieja dashes out of the room just in case the bars decide to retract again. Another pulsating glow catches her eye, this time coming from multiple dice. Lieja reaches eagerly for them.
