Day 6 - Friday

You gather all the dice in your claws. Admiring them, you shift them back and forth. As they click together, a faint light in the dice grows stronger and stronger until it’s blinding.

Everything is white, then you descend into shadows as a portal envelops you once again. Rather than dropping you off back in Sornieth, you are again dropped into a room in this strange place. You don’t see the dice anywhere.

[Attic] [columns]The cat gets up and stretches, revealing a key it was laying on. You give it one last pet before unlocking the door on the far end of the room and passing through.____________[nextcol]_[nextcol]Getting the door open while balancing on dragons was quite the struggle, but you manage to pull yourself up and into the room above.[/columns] You find an 8-sided die lying in the middle of an empty room. It looks suspiciously like a piece of Shadowbinder's new dice set. Upon picking up the die, you suddenly become aware of a large set of double doors you hadn’t noticed previously. After pocketing the die, you slowly, cautiously, open the wooden doors. They’re heavier than they look, but exactly as creaky as expected. You’re straining hard against the doors when suddenly they are yanked open from the other side. You stumble to the ground and find yourself looking at a pair of very large feet. As your eyes scan upward, there is a pair of armored knees, a torso covered in heavy plate, and finally a head with glowing blue eyes set behind an armored helmet. A great golem made of iron stares down at you. To stop the golem, you must steal its helmet. Or at least, you’re pretty sure that’s how it works. Where was that bestiary? Your thoughts are interrupted by the golem as it reaches out toward you. There’s no time to come up with another plan. Fifteen (15) dragons tried to distract the golem with pinecones, while six (6) dragons decided to go for the golem's helmet with only their own two claws. [Cages] [columns]The creature immediately turns on you, growling. Perhaps this wasn’t as well thought out as you had anticipated moments ago. You flap your wings and make it on top of the creature’s cage. The door that was open before is the only way out. To escape the razor sharp claws of the beast, you dive through the open door and shut it behind you. [nextcol]_[nextcol]The door slams shut as soon as you touch the handle. You take a few steps back, taking in the scene. That’s when you hear the growl. The previously sad looking creature now looks quite angry. And those are some… very nice teeth it has. You tell it so. It thanks you, looking a little embarrassed. It apologizes for its rude behavior and opens the door for you into the next room. [nextcol]_[nextcol]You haphazardly shove a claw between two gears. The pressure hurts a little but the gears stop moving. Something small floats above the lever. Upon closer inspection, you realize it is a 4 sided die. Perhaps one of Shadowbinder’s? You reach out and take it, but when you look up from the die in your claw, you see your other claw has pulled the lever already, as if it had a mind of its own. And so do dozens of tiny little skittering creatures crawling along the ceiling. Four (4) dragons threw snacks at the critters to slow them down. Eight (8) tried to replace Shadowbinder with an Onyx Shadowbinder Idol. [Slime Laboratory] [columns]You click your gears into place and, miraculously, they fit. Eleven (11) dragons attempted to protect themselves using the wards on Glittering Sphinxbands. That was a good petting session, but he does need to find Shadowbinder! There is clan business to attend to! Hopefully the kitty likes it here--he didn't seem inclined to follow Kaleth at least. Flittering into the next room, Kaleth finds it to be... empty? No, wait. A d8. He picks it up and notices the huge doors that were most definitely not there before. It takes some effort, but Kaleth is able to open them, coming face to face with the golem. Being a fae really sucks sometimes. Especially when things are made in relation to much larger dragons. He panics, but remembers something about removing the helm? Maybe.... Kaleth reaches into his pocket and pulls out leftover pinecones from going through the door earlier, throwing them into the air in an attempt to distract the golem with shinies. He then darts for the golem's helm to try to remove it.

Pinecones seemed to have worked before - let's see if they're still effective!

Wobbling a bit atop the gears of the door, Crystalline finally managed to open the shape in the ceiling, pushing through into the attic beyond. The dice on the floor was suspicious looking, but Crys picked it up just to be safe; maybe it'd come in handy later. As soon as he did, he noticed a huge set of double doors and trotted over to them. "What is it with this place and big doors?" he muttered, as he cautiously opened them, wincing as they creaked loudly. Still mumbling under his breath, he looked up -- and froze. In front of him was the largest golem he'd ever seen, looming over him with glowing eyes, and slowly reaching towards him. Crys sprung into action -- he had some shimmering pinecones in his bag, maybe he could distract it? He threw them to the side and hoped their glow would be enough to keep the creature's attention away from him as he made a grab for its helmet. That was how these things were defeated, right? He certainly hoped so -- if not, he was in deep shade.

[columns][nextcol] It would seem his friendliness paid off- that was a key it had been sitting on, and it fit smoothly into the other door in the room. A single die sat in the middle of the new room. Xolotl approached it suspiciously, lowering his head to the floor to get a good look at it before he picked it up. It looked an awful lot like something the Shadowbinder might own, and had a magic aura about it that would suggest that was the case. Of course, his antennae had been detecting all manner of shadow magic since falling into this strange place, so there was no guarantee that it was coming from this particular die. He glanced up at the enormous wooden door before him. They were probably important- a good indication that he should go there next. He gently put the die in a pocket- hoping it wouldn’t explode on him or something- and stepped up to the doors. Only for them to open without his help. He jumped back, hissing, already drawing on his breath and flaring out his feathers protectively. A golem was a little out of his expertise, but as near as he could guess this was the sort that would stop working if its helmet was removed. It started to reach for him. He could try running by through the open door, but he has the feeling that this thing would be on his tail from here on out. No, he had to incapacitate it. Somehow. Yuuri's hands fly across his pouches, desperation mounting as he simultaneously sprints around the creature, who had suddenly decided to break out into a charge. He quickly eyes the imposing silhouette, and wonders... Perhaps it's helmet could be its weak point? It wasn't as heavily armored, so he may be able to rip it off. At this point, it was pretty much the only thing he could try. Thankfully, the key was the shiny thing that the cat had been laying on, and he gave the cat another pet before unlocking the door, half-wondering if he should bring the cat along, but decided it was probably fine considering it was there to begin with. When he saw that the next room had a random die sitting on the floor, he was immediately suspicious. It looked like one from a brand new dice set, and picking it up he realized it was eight-sided. He blinked when he realized there was a set of double-doors he was positive weren't there moment before. Frowning - this place was really starting to get to him - he opened the door with a grumble after stowing the die in his pouch, hoping this might be the way to an exit. Or at least, that had been the plan. When the very heavy door opened by itself, he refused to admit that he let out a yelp in surprise and fell forward before he could catch himself. And of course, there was a golem on the other side. Before he could react, the golem reached for him. Moving on instinct, he immediately dodged to the side, reaching into his pouch for something that could help. What he grabbed were some more of his Pinecones. Frantically, she made a dash for the open door, slamming it shut behind her and weaving a spell of locking to seal it. Hopefully she would be able to find another way out, as she wasn't eager to face off against that monster again. She was a mage, not a fighter! Nightshade took a moment to study the room she now found herself in, and she soon spotted a four-sided die floating above a lever. Oddly enough, though, when she reached out to take it, she found herself pulling the lever, almost as if something had compelled her to do it. How odd. The Imperial decided to hold onto the die for now. Maybe it would be of some value if she ever got out of this place. Whatever the case, pulling the lever had caused a pair of giant doors to open, and there, locked in the biggest cage of all, was the Shadowbinder. Once again, Nightshade found herself trembling in the presence of one of the Eleven. "Sh- Sh- Shadowbinder!" she yelped, nearly tripping over herself as she quickly bowed down in reverence. No, this wasn't the Arcanist, but the Imperial knew to show some respect to a goddess, especially during their festival! "How... how did you end up trapped in here? Ah... hold on, let me get you out of there!" Wordlessly, the Shadowbinder gestured towards a nearby button, and lacking any better ideas, Nightshade pressed it. Sure enough, the cage doors slowly slid open, but as the Shadowbinder emerged, she was followed by countless tiny creatures. Nightshade didn't know what they were, but they didn't seem too friendly. Fortunately, she'd brought a few snacks along, and she quickly threw them at the creatures. "Here! Munch on these instead!" she yelled. Well, she'd found the Shadowbinder. But why had they been taken with her? Was it 'cause she noticed they were following her? Sadly, Gloomwillow isn't of much help - having grown up in The Starwood Forest, they only know of folktales, myths, and stories told among their fellow Gloomwillow Guides about their home forest. Unknown is displeased, his Arcane Magic doesn't seem to properly work here, and as much as he's used to dungeons and dangerous missions, the dice in front of him in this room makes him wary. He can't help but think about what happened last time he touched a cursed item in The Shifting Emporium, and he's not willing to run that risk again. He studies the scattered dice on the floor for a while, he can sense Shadow Magic emanating from them; are they cursed, or harmless? The tile mosaic on the floor depicts an image of The Shadowbinder, so this could be a clue. For some reason the amethyst he picked up earlier begins to pulsate in his claw, and he's temporarily teleported to The Tangled Wood, without Gloomwllow, just to be back in the same room again. ''That item must be a teleporter!'' Gloomwillow says to to him telephatically as soon as he's back in the room, which leads him to experiment for a while. For how long can he remain in another location? Apparently not for long, not at all long enough to escape or call for help as the teleporter isn't too exact and won't let him go anywhere he wants to, the only places it seems to let him willingly visit is The Tangle Woods, and his room back at the Clan, and of course, any place the whims of the amethyst decides, but it is enough to stock up on some goods in whichever location he ends up in. The amethyst don't appear to teleport back all the items he tries to pick up in his room, though, so he reaches the conclusion that if this is a game, he has to play by the rules - whichever those rules are, and not try to cheat the game. He thinks hard while clutching the amethyst that he wants to go somewhere useful, somewhere that will help him find items that wards him and Gloomwillow against harm if the dice are cursed, maybe somewhere else in his Clan. This time the amethyst starts glowing, but does not transport him anywhere, instead ten Glittering Sphinxband rings appears in his claw, and he decides to put them on, one ring on each finger. Now, he has no other choice but to pick up a die and see what happens next... Meanwhile, Eada turned to watch a set of doors open, seemingly in response to the die being interacted with. The next room presents them with what looked to be the full set of divine dice. Kellmite quickly forgot about the possible invisible die and was drawn to take a closer look, but Eada called out before he could get too close. “I'm pretty sure those're magic. Whoever they are, it's best to be careful when touching someone else's magic belongings. Is there anything in the charm bag that'll help?” “I'll take a look!” Eada tossed him the amethyst and after a short while Kellmite reappeared. Apparently the warp back had caught him by surprise as a handful of rings and a couple of amulets scattered to the floor. The striped Skydancer spotted a few rings already on her brother's fingers. “Found something? Here, let me tidy up while you finish getting ready.” Kellmite nodded and gave the amethyst back. Quite a few dice were found over the course of the day, and strange things followed...

The cat gets up and stretches, revealing a key it was laying on. You give it one last pet before unlocking the door on the far end of the room and passing through.____________ _ Getting the door open while balancing on dragons was quite the struggle, but you manage to pull yourself up and into the room above.

You find an 8-sided die lying in the middle of an empty room.

[Cages]
DLkCPGY.png

The creature immediately turns on you, growling. Perhaps this wasn’t as well thought out as you had anticipated moments ago. You flap your wings and make it on top of the creature’s cage. The door that was open before is the only way out. To escape the razor sharp claws of the beast, you dive through the open door and shut it behind you. _ The door slams shut as soon as you touch the handle. _ You haphazardly shove a claw between two gears. The pressure hurts a little but the gears stop moving. Somewhere within the door there is a heavy grinding sound. You remove your claw, just in case, but as you do a trap door opens beneath your feet and you fall, finding yourself in a dark room.

The room extends to your right, with a lever at the end. Something small floats above the lever. Upon closer inspection, you realize it is a 4 sided die. Perhaps one of Shadowbinder’s? You reach out and take it, but when you look up from the die in your claw, you see your other claw has pulled the lever already, as if it had a mind of its own.

A pair of massive doors open before you. Before you is a truly titanic cage, and within it stands the Shadowbinder herself. Shadows congregate around Her, despite that the room itself is bright. There’s a nice, big, red button next to you, which the Shadowbinder gestures toward. You press the button. The cage swings open. Shadowbinder emerges. And so do dozens of tiny little skittering creatures crawling along the ceiling.

Four (4) dragons threw snacks at the critters to slow them down. Eight (8) tried to replace Shadowbinder with an Onyx Shadowbinder Idol.

[Slime Laboratory]
7X86Af5.png

You click your gears into place and, miraculously, they fit. The gears on the door turn faster and somewhere behind the door there is a click. The door swings open.
______________
_ You haphazardly shove a claw between two gears. The pressure hurts a little but the gears stop moving. There is a click somewhere behind the door, and it swings open. It takes another minute to get your claw unstuck from between the gears.
______________
_ You pick the lock on the door and move forward. The creature in the previous room continues watching you until you close the door.
______________
_ The cat thinks you are playing, it takes the key and runs through a hole you can't possibly fit through. You try to pick the lock and set off a trap. You manage to avoid it, but now there's a space where a panel opened for the trap. It's just big enough to squeeze into the space

You find a single 12 sided die sitting on top of a table. Could it be one of Shadowbinder’s? When you reach toward it, it vanishes. After a moment, you begin to wonder if anything you thought you saw was really there. To your right, bars blocking the path forward suddenly lower and the door on the other side slowly swings open on its own.

In the next room, there is a great tile mosaic in the floor of the Shadowbinder. It’s impressive work, but more importantly, there are dice scattered on top of it. Shadowbinder’s dice. The ones she seemed to use to get to this world to begin with. If the spell can be undone, hopefully it should transport you back home for good.

Eleven (11) dragons attempted to protect themselves using the wards on Glittering Sphinxbands. Nine (9) of the adventurers tried to attune the dice to the Tangled Wood using Shimmering Pinecones, in the hopes that the dice could send them home. Three (3) dragons thought the dice were pretty and decided to take a closer look.
To be continued…

Below you will find the collection of in-character choices offered by adventurers.

Oh, no you don’t! Xolotl fell back on the sort of magic he knew best: illusions and distractions.

Yuuri's hands fly across his pouches, desperation mounting as he simultaneously sprints around the creature, who had suddenly decided to break out into a charge.

Ah... hold on, let me get you out of there!"

Wordlessly, the Shadowbinder gestured towards a nearby button, and lacking any better ideas, Nightshade pressed it.

Now it was time to try and locate an escape route!

Is there anything in the charm bag that'll help?”
“I'll take a look!” Eada tossed him the amethyst and after a short while Kellmite reappeared. Apparently the warp back had caught him by surprise as a handful of rings and a couple of amulets scattered to the floor. The striped Skydancer spotted a few rings already on her brother's fingers.
“Found something? Here, let me tidy up while you finish getting ready.”
Kellmite nodded and gave the amethyst back. He then focussed on hunting specific rings to add to the set he was putting on. Eada carefully gathered up the rest of the charms, paused to admire the mosaic, and then went to return the items.

After the last gear clicked into place, all of them started to turn faster … and with a ‘click’-sound, the door swung open. I entered yet another room where I couldn’t miss that table standing in the middle of it. A single 12 sided die was sitting on top of it as well, utterly resembling those Shadowbinder was carrying around. I thought about picking it up, but when I reached toward it, the die just vanished. Well, it could have been my imagination playing tricks on me…

Right after that strange experience some bars suddenly lowered themselves and the door to the other side slowly swung open on its own. Creepy, but this place gave me the willies anyways. Going with the flow, I had a look inside, where I spotted a great tile mosaic of the Shadowbinder on the floor. Some impressive work – it still made me think about the one running this place once more: transporting dragons Gawd-knows-where, having obvious trust issues along with some strange floor monsters, not to forget that absent cleaning crew, and now an art piece of the shadow deity. It’s getting stranger by the minute. That’s when I noticed all of Shadowbinder’s dice scattered on top of of! And as those things might be potentially dangerous to whoever coming by, I decided to take them in until the original owner would put a claim them. Somewhat remembering the other dice disappearing after trying to touch it with my bear hands, I decided to use some Glittering Sphinxbands to cover each finger with before trying to gather them all.
