Furry creatures, sad creatures, things that shouldn’t be creatures at all. You should probably be concerned about that... [Attic] [columns]After moving a large box, you find a door hidden behind it. You enter.____________[nextcol]_[nextcol]At the top of the stairs there is a trap door. You push it up and climb out, finding yourself in another room.[/columns] A cat is curled up sleeping on a table. It’s long, grey fur is striped and fluffy and it’s opened one of its eyes to look at you. You watch it watching you, and you get the feeling you’re losing a staring contest you didn’t mean to start. As you stare back at the cat you notice there is something shiny under its paw. You finally turn away to look at the rest of the area. On the other side of the room is a locked door. (You didn’t actually check, but better safe than sorry?) Twenty-three (23) dragons found themselves distracted by an ever so floofy cat, more focused on petting it than remaining aware of their surroundings. Seven (7) dragons had the forethought not to touch the fluffy thing with sharp bits in a tricky magic dungeon... [Cages] [columns]As you look around behind a box, you must have hit a trap because the floor beneath you opens up and swallows you whole. It’s very, very dark for a few moments. Then you are spit out into another room.[nextcol]_[nextcol]You tap the creature’s cage with one of your weapons. It awakens and looks up at you slowly. As you’re somehow managing to brandish 5 weapons at once (one in each claw and one in the mouth, of course) the creature is intimidated and sits back down in its cage. You pass through the door without incident.[nextcol]_[nextcol]You decide to keep walking and get out of the room before the creature wakes up. Unfortunately, you trip over a loose stone in the floor and crash into one of the empty cages, waking the creature. It goes wild, growling and leaping at the bars of the cage. The cage seems sturdy enough that it won’t spring open, so you run toward the opposite side of the room, putting as much space between you and the creature as you can. As fast as you can.[nextcol]_[nextcol]You don’t have any jam on you, so you try to force the door again. It seems to be caught on the floor. Maybe if you just pull a little harder. There, the floor seems to give a little. Maybe a little too much. The floor opens up beneath you and you fall into… some kind of mouth? It’s dark and damp and very unpleasant. Fortunately a moment later you’re spit back out into another room. Still in one piece, you’re pretty sure.[/columns] There is a single cage on the far end of the room. Inside is another creature, a different one. It looks sad. There is a door on either side of the cage. One is cracked open, and the other is shut. Eleven (11) dragons took pity on the sad creature and opened its cage. Six (6) decided the creature was a bad idea and headed for the open door, and one (1) tried their hand at the closed one. [Slime Laboratory] [columns]You rush past the creature at full gallop, with wings giving a little extra push. You just narrowly manage to close your wings enough to make it through the doorway. Slamming the door behind you, it takes a moment to be able to hear anything over the sound of your heart pounding in your ears.______________[nextcol]_[nextcol]As you open the jam, your stomach growls and you realize maybe it wouldn’t be a bad time for a snack. You set the jam down as you rifle around your things for eating utensils (we’re not animals, after all). There’s a slight shift under your feet and when you look back, the jam is gone. Through the floor, a vibration reverberates that you realize is a burp. The floor is alive, and it ate your lunch. Before getting too far in thinking about retaliation for this great offense, you notice the door is no longer stuck since the floor-thing shifted, and go through it.[/columns] There is a grand door with many complex mechanisms across it. A row of gears ticks slowly along the right side, and many little rods and shift and pivot along the face. Papers are strewn about the room. Above the door is a thin line in the ceiling, in the shape of a square. The diagrams seem to have a repeating pattern that is not matched exactly by the door. Thirteen (13) dragons studied the papers and concluded that replacing a few of the gears might get the mechanism working properly. Not all dragons are the close-reading sorts and three (3) of the adventurers tried to just jam the moving gears. With force. But they left their lunch out of it this time. To be continued… ----- Below you will find the collection of in-character choices offered by adventurers. ----- Pet cats, profit?
[columns][nextcol]"..."Roxy was fidgeting nervously under the cat's gaze, which was ridiculous- He was a dragon! Who cares. Shiny coin? Meh. THERE'S A KITTY AND HE'S FLUFFY. He approached the table the cat was perched on and gently reached out to pet the kitty.

Butcher barely even notices the shiny thing -- he is too enthralled by the cat to notice. "Oooohh! Good kitty. Gooooood kitty." He cautiously reaches out a foot to brush against the cat's forehead. As she looks around the room, she notices the cat and something shiny under the cat's paw. It is a minute before she reluctantly gives in to the staring contest to look around the room. [columns]On the other side of the room is the closed door. Probably locked like the others. She thinks and takes off her backpack and rummages through it for a snack. She takes out a couple of pieces of quail and munches on one while looking back at the cat. Maybe it could use some food and I can distract it from its shiny thing. She decides and moves towards the table.[nextcol][/columns] Carefully she pulls off some tiny chunks, for a dragon but hopefully not too big for a cat, of the meat and sets it on the edge of the table. Tentatively, she reaches over towards the cat to let it smell her claws before trying to tickle the back of its head. The cat looked at Latheilen. Latheilen looked at the cat, barely noticing the shiny object. The cat looked at Latheilen. LKJEGREMQBGRQEM WHAT A CUTIE I MUST PET HIM She gently approached the cat, smiling and totally oblivious of what she was here for in her love for cute and fluffy beings. If the cat allows her to pet them, she would likely spend minutes of absolutely happy cat petting without doing anything else. Reaching out with one of her talons, she began to gently stroke it's fur. "Hey there..." She began softly. "Would you mind letting me see the item you have under your paws?"

[columns][nextcol]There's a distinct possibility that the shiny is the key to the locked door. But Kaho could never resist cute fluffy things and instead of reaching for the shiny, he gently attempts to pet the cat. He took note of the potentially locked door, but what really caught his attention was the cat in the middle of the room, holding an object under its paw. But of course, as all ranger stereotypes go, his mind practically screamed "Kitty!" and he made his way over to pet the cat

[columns][nextcol]As Belladonna stared back at the fluffy cat she just smiles at it as she nears the cat and very gently pets it. Much like her mother she always had a soft spot for animals and hope by giving the kitty some attention she could also gain access to what it was hiding.

[columns][nextcol]Yuuri blinks at the cat, glancing about and wondering just how it managed to get inside this previously sealed room. He lets that riddle go (for now), as he had a feeling that the answer involved more magic. Well, that, or he wasn't as alone in this structure as he'd assumed. But no matter! He needs to see if that key will unlatch the second door, but he knows better than to just grab it from its guard. It reeks of a trap, be it otherworldly or via the wrath of a wronged feline. But maybe he can charm the cat into releasing it? Yuuri doesn't have anything of note on him, so perhaps a pet will suffice. And if he got to run his fingers through that sleepy fluff loaf for a while, then he certainly held no complaints. With steeled nerves and a hopefully relaxed form, Yuuri sedately approaches the cat. He lifts a hand, palm-side up, and allows the cat time to check him out…

[columns][nextcol]Lieja is immediately drawn to the fluffy, grey, adorable cat. She coos over it, reaching out to pet it. She avoids the shiny - it belongs to the cat, and she's experienced enough with cats (or mates with a penchant for acting like cats) to know that taking the shiny is a bad idea.

[columns][nextcol]When Dusk found the door behind the boxes, he quickly entered it, happy to not have to be in that stuffy place for much longer. He wasn't expecting to find a cat of all things. When he saw that the next door was locked, he frowned, wondering how he was supposed to get out now. It was then something glinting caught his eye. Walking closer to the cat that was still staring him down, he realized that there was something shiny beneath the cat's paw. Perhaps the key...? Crossed between wanting to just take the key - which seemed it would just end in him getting a face full of claws - or trying to coax it, he sucked in a breath, and raised a hand to pet the cat; maybe if he pets it enough he can grab the key safely...
Don’t pet strangers…
[columns][nextcol]Linden takes a long time looking at the door, trying to see if it's going to behave as a door or push him into another bubble. Nothing catches his eyes but that's not really reassuring after last door. ... There's no reason to believe that is just a pretty cat... Still, Linden has no idea what to do. The cat doesn't look like it wants to be bothered, but maybe if he can make the cat chase his tail away from the shiny object, just to check to see if it's an amethyst.

[columns][nextcol]Admittedly, when Coppice was imagining what was at the top of the stairs, a cat was not one of them. It had long, fluffy fur, and for a moment Coppice was tempted to pet it. But the way it stared at her made her uneasy, and Coppice decided it was better to leave it alone. Instead she turned her attention to the door on the other side of the room. Coppice didn't know if it was locked, but given everything else in this dungeon, it likely was. Then the cat shifted, and Coppice noticed something shiny under the cat's paw. A key, perhaps? Or maybe another amethyst, or maybe trouble. Either way, it looked like Coppice would have to approach the cat anyways. Moving slowly so as to not startle the cat, Coppice reached out and tried to slip the shiny object out from underneath its paw.
Release the hounds
[columns][nextcol]Rana croaks and FireCoral's heart hurts he lets the sad animal out. Loki peered at it warily from the doorway and decided it would be in his best interests to creep past: it was just a little too large and the claws a bit too sharp for his liking. He picked his way past the creature with care and then decided to hurry up, which turned out to be a terrible decision. His claw caught on a loose stone and he tripped, crashing full-body into one of the empty cages before he could stop himself. It fell into its neighbour with a crash - waking the creature. As Loki yet again got to his feet, it leapt towards him, barrelling into the bars, snarling and swiping at him. Loki leapt back. The cage seemed study enough, but best not to push his already-bad luck. He turned and ran, darting between the cages to put as much distance as possible between him and the creature. He dove through the door in front of him, slamming it behind him and leaning heavily on it. It was only after he'd caught his breath that he realised he wasn't alone. There was another creature inside another cage - different from the last one, though. It stared balefully at him through the bars, soulful eyes filled with sadness. Loki frowned. It didn't look dangerous. Of course, he could be very wrong - his own son Fenrir didn't look all that dangerous most of the time - but it seemed wrong to leave this creature locked up. Perhaps it was because he was reminded somehow of his son when he looked into its eyes. He prepared a shield spell just in case, then walked over to inspect the cage's lock to see if he could open it.

[columns][nextcol]It wasn't much of a fight, as it turned out. Whatever the creature was, it had little wish to go up against a giant Imperial armed with five spears, and it quickly backed up against the rear of its cage. Satisfied that it would pose no further threat, Nightshade pressed on deeper into the dungeon. The next room contained another caged creature, though not the same kind as before. Nightshade approached the cage cautiously. This creature didn't look as threatening as the last one. Instead, it looked rather sad. "Who's been locking you creatures up in here?" Nightshade asked, as she leaned her head in to get a better look at the cage's occupant. "You don't look like you're much of a threat to anyone. Here, let me get you out of there." The cage wasn't locked, so it was a trivial matter for the Imperial to open it up and release the creature inside. If it decided to turn on her, well, she still had her spears ready to go! Still, she hesitates for a few minutes, looking between it and the two doors, before slowly making her way toward the open door. It wasn't that that she had no heart, but what if the beast was dangerous? You should never judge a book by its cover. Hurrying her way over to the open door, she hoped she would find her way back or the Shadowbinder soon.
Gears on gears on gears
[columns][nextcol]Fortuna took one look at the big door to her right and grimaced. Machinery was not her forte. Too much math. She felt more familiar with the papers strewn about the room - such a mess felt more at home to her. She dragged one toward her with a claw and studied it. More math (ugh) lined the edges of the paper, but the diagram in the middle, with its repeating pattern of gears, was more her speed. She squinted at the image, then at the big door. Yes, there was the problem. This gear, and that one there... they were breaking the pattern! Unacceptable. She would remedy this at once. Damnation. Hell and damnation and peanut shells. Well, at least she didn't lose any poles. The sight of the gears brightens Moonside's demeanor significantly. She's spent enough time around the clan alchemist to not just know clockworks but to have...borrowed a few, stitched along her sides as beautiful buttons. She nips a few off and sets them with ease.

[columns][nextcol]Yeehaw took a moment to catch his breath, eyes flicking over the sight before him. Gears and papers. Now this, Yeehaw could handle. Yeehaw'd spent a little time in the Shifting Expanse. While his work there hadn't been strictly along the lines of clockwork engineering, he'd worked alongside a number of mechanists of all stripes--and he'd picked up a few tricks. He rifled through the papers and noticed something was off. Maybe if he added a gear here... and a gear there... The papers all over the floor seem so untidy. I scoop them all up in a neat pile. Looking closer I see it looks like a diagram. As my clan's ambassador I'm not really any good at fixing machines but I'm determined to give it a go. I set to work matching the gears to the diagram.

[columns] [nextcol]Kellmite searched his belongings for suitably tiny spoon which might be used to apply jam to the door or his tongue. Eada was focussed on the door, wondering what might be behind so many closed doors. After some shifting and rumbling, the two looked around and realised that the squelchy substance covering the floor had swallowed the jams, jars and all. Including the enchanted remains, Eada was concerned to notice. As the silver Skydancer contemplated how best to avoid being consumed themselves, Kellmite pointed to the door. “Look!” After the slime-creature had shifted, the door had swung open. As they moved on, Kellmite called out a “thank you!” to the room as they left. “Please don't get in the habit of carrying around pickled bones with you.” Eada told him. The siblings then found their third door. The most impressive construction yet. Kellmite sat to one side, his gaze wandering, and Eada decided to take charge of puzzle-solving for the latest door. “Do you think Mossrind is somewhere in here?” Kellmite asked as Eada studied the papers. She paused and then put them to one side to go to her brother. “Kell, I don't know how we could know either way.” 'Mossrind' was one of the thaumaturges who had disappeared in the accident that had scattered their clan. He enjoyed collecting ticking, mechanical things and sometimes made small and intriguing contraptions that served no obvious purpose. “We can still look.” “Who knows how big this place is, and you know the stories about what happens to those who fail to find their way home from strange parts before the festival ends.” Kellmite shivered, but didn't back down. Eada thought on it further. “Perhaps, if we find the master of this place, then they will know.” Kellmite's countenance brightened gently with hope. Once Eada was confident she knew what was needed, she used the amethyst to fetch some gears. They were lucky that they still had some scavenged parts left over that had yet to be traded or sold. That... wasn't creepy at all. Teensy, for sure, was now looking at the floor with a weary eye. She'd not seen what had eaten the floor, and from the look on her familiar's face, she certainly did not want to find out. Moving her attention to the grand door with the gears, Soyonzur tilts her head in thought. She is an Arcane dragon by birth, but she has spent enough time by now at the Shifting Expanses where her clan has made its home to understand something of basic mechanics. Besides, puzzles have always intrigued her, and the the slowly turning gears are mesmerizing. Taking a look at the papers, her studious mind kicks in and she sets on replacing some of the gears on the door. Honing in on the pattern, he realized that something was missing from the gear mechanism. Namely, some number of gears. Since most of the experience so far has been puzzles and traps and dark dusty spaces, a slightly alarming number of creatures seem to be emerging in the dungeon. Furry creatures, sad creatures, things that shouldn’t be creatures at all. You should probably be concerned about that...
[Attic]
mrdHTma.png

After moving a large box, you find a door hidden behind it. You enter.____________ _ At the top of the stairs there is a trap door. You push it up and climb out, finding yourself in another room.

A cat is curled up sleeping on a table. (You didn’t actually check, but better safe than sorry?)

Twenty-three (23) dragons found themselves distracted by an ever so floofy cat, more focused on petting it than remaining aware of their surroundings. Seven (7) dragons had the forethought not to touch the fluffy thing with sharp bits in a tricky magic dungeon...

[Cages]
MPCB7ZR.png

As you look around behind a box, you must have hit a trap because the floor beneath you opens up and swallows you whole. It’s very, very dark for a few moments. Then you are spit out into another room. _ You tap the creature’s cage with one of your weapons. It awakens and looks up at you slowly. As you’re somehow managing to brandish 5 weapons at once (one in each claw and one in the mouth, of course) the creature is intimidated and sits back down in its cage. You pass through the door without incident. _ You decide to keep walking and get out of the room before the creature wakes up. As fast as you can. _ You don’t have any jam on you, so you try to force the door again. Still in one piece, you’re pretty sure.

There is a single cage on the far end of the room.

[Slime Laboratory]
ZPVXuuv.png

You rush past the creature at full gallop, with wings giving a little extra push. You just narrowly manage to close your wings enough to make it through the doorway. Slamming the door behind you, it takes a moment to be able to hear anything over the sound of your heart pounding in your ears.______________ _ As you open the jam, your stomach growls and you realize maybe it wouldn’t be a bad time for a snack. You set the jam down as you rifle around your things for eating utensils (we’re not animals, after all). There’s a slight shift under your feet and when you look back, the jam is gone. Through the floor, a vibration reverberates that you realize is a burp. The floor is alive, and it ate your lunch. Before getting too far in thinking about retaliation for this great offense, you notice the door is no longer stuck since the floor-thing shifted, and go through it.

There is a grand door with many complex mechanisms across it.

To be continued…

Below you will find the collection of in-character choices offered by adventurers.

On the other side of the room is the closed door. Probably locked like the others. She thinks and takes off her backpack and rummages through it for a snack. She takes out a couple of pieces of quail and munches on one while looking back at the cat. Maybe it could use some food and I can distract it from its shiny thing. She decides and moves towards the table. 1018.png

Carefully she pulls off some tiny chunks, for a dragon but hopefully not too big for a cat, of the meat and sets it on the edge of the table. Tentatively, she reaches over towards the cat to let it smell her claws before trying to tickle the back of its head.

Perhaps the key...?

Crossed between wanting to just take the key - which seemed it would just end in him getting a face full of claws - or trying to coax it, he sucked in a breath, and raised a hand to pet the cat; maybe if he pets it enough he can grab the key safely...

Kellmite searched his belongings for suitably tiny spoon which might be used to apply jam to the door or his tongue.

“We can still look.”
“Who knows how big this place is, and you know the stories about what happens to those who fail to find their way home from strange parts before the festival ends.” Kellmite shivered, but didn't back down.

Crys hurried through the door and groaned when he saw the door of gears. He was no good at puzzles -- he usually left them to Morgana, who loved them -- so he definitely wasn't getting though it any time soon. The shape in the ceiling, however, he could reach. Using the gears on the door to boost himself up, Crys leapt from gear to gear until he reached the top.

He introduced himself as Calypso, and started studying the odd assortment of gears and whatnot. Instead of trying to fix the mechanism or get up above the door, he opts for the simpler solution; forcefully jamming the gears.
