. story .
"Alright, Salmon, the first thing you need to know about being all grown up is how to hunt."
"Hunting! Yay!" Salmon cheered, making Lunar smile. Straff rolled her eyes and flew over.
"Look, kid, the only thing you need to know about hunting is that other dragons are always willing to do it for you if you bat your eyes and say please, alright? Especially big softies like Lunar here."
"Do not teach her that!" Lunar snapped. "And I am not soft, alright?!" He huffed and shook out his wings. "I just like to take care of others."
"Soft."
"I'm not soft!"
"Can we get to hunting?" Salmon inquired to break the argument. Lunar simply nodded and went toward the ocean.
"I'll have to teach you to fish first. It's the hardest kind of hunting, so if you fish first, then land hunting is easy." Lunar shook off his flower crown and his starry robe. "But you have to use your claws. They'll fight back."
"I can do it, Lunar!"
Lunar smiled and flew up, then dove into the water. Salmon dove into the water from the shore. Straff watched from the skies.
Once in the water, Lunar only occasionally had to go up for air. Salmon wasn't as lucky and had to go up often, but caught on to good swimming tactics easily and was able to both gather fish with ease and go up for air when needed. She only came out with two bites, four scratches, and one gash (from a rock!)
Needless to say, Salmon was proud of her two fish.
Lunar hauled in his feast consisting of many, many fish, but congratulated Salmon nevertheless. Straff was upon the pile in seconds, preening it for insects that she could eat.
Lunar sighed. This was his life now, He thought as he began healing Salmon's wounds. He could make this work.
...probably.
