The wind whipped through Skadi’s thick winter coat as she pushed forwards, skimming across the thick snows of the course. Though she’d started out feeling confident after winning a silver medal in this event at the previous Games, she knew that she couldn’t grow complacent.
They were around the middle of the event, which in her opinion was one of the toughest points of the entire race – with the initial adrenaline-rush of the start of the race gone, her energy flagging after so long doggedly skiing onwards over the undulating terrain and still a long way to go before she could stop and rest. Still, she kept forging onwards, listening to the hiss of her skis over the top of the ice and watching each rasp of breath turn to clouds before her eyes.

The thought spurred her on and she attacked the next upward slope with renewed enthusiasm.
