The wonders of Ice celebrated world-over were at their most exquisite in the glazed realm. In that gleaming destination, the gathered crowds also had the remarkable opportunity to witness the marvellous feats of physical prowess and skill of the athletes of the Sornieth Winter Games. The chronicler who'd travelled with the team to the games was probably writing something like that, Bontu thought. The Wildclaw, his comrades from the Stanzascale clan, and all the other athletes in attendance, were waiting for the opening ceremonies to commence. When Bontu had first proposed the idea that the clan participate in the games, there had initially been some confusion as to eligibility. Once that had been cleared up, the scholarly clan's members were yet hesitant. With time and persistence, the Wildclaw was able to find interested individuals and then plan and prepare for the occasion. “Ssh! It's starting!” A couple of athletes whispered to one another before listening to the crowd cheer at the sight of the sun and moon performers commencing the show. The voices of the two announcers reverberated, audible to every member of the audience. Excitement rippled through the group. Saya stood at attention with an expression of anticipation. Suna and Bryn formed a queue behind her and whispered to one another. “Wish I could see it.” “We could watch rather than compete next year.” Bontu heard a loud exhalation. He checked on Qualia, who smiled reassuringly. Gordu, another of their number, was one of a couple of Tundras Bontu saw checking for familiar scents among the athletes. He seemed composed. Even for the orca-furred Tundra, for whom the Icefield was a familiar sight, there was a new experience to be had as competitors in the games. The time came for the athletes to enter the stadium. The eclipse loomed overhead. For an audience who weren't concerned with dealing with Hati, it was perhaps a fortuitous sight to see their champions in the making walk out under that moonlight most rare. Suna spotted her mother in the crowd and waved. Qualia glimpsed a familiar face and gave a slight nod in their direction, in an attempt to acknowledge without drawing attention. Several thickly-furred individuals cheered excitedly to see Gordu, who turned to smile. There would be those who had trained more than them, and those who'd trained less. Everyone started on the same ground, and would reach different heights by the end. Once the ceremonies had concluded, Bontu went to make his final preparations. Lead by example. The Wildclaw hoped to embody this ideal that day. Their presence there that festival came about as a result of his proposal, so Bontu would lead the team, and take that first leap. On the first day of the festival, Bontu from the Stanzascale clan was to enter the ski jump.

"Shall we help you suit up?" "Oh yeah, sure." A few other clanmates move in, zipping Yonwood into her suit and making sure the skis and poles are all right. Yonwood does need the help -- she keeps looking ahead at the starting line, clearly eager to begin.

Like the brambles from his home, it clawed and dug in deep. Everyone was doing so well, even more so the person before him. He couldn't help but watch in amazement as the team he wa against moved with such precision! And like the recent eclipse, he watched as the stone slid into the house perfectly. It was beautiful; but it did not mean they had lost, oh not yet. Twilight looked to his fellow Shadowlings and nodded. No, there were 16 stones to go through, 15 now, and as their lead, Twilight was unwilling to let his team down! He stepped onto the ice, taking on the steady rock that was his appearance and smiled; Yes. He nodded to his sweeps who nodded back, they too looked determined; it was infectious. Letting out a breath, and taking hold of the stone, Twilight readied himself, seconds ticking away like minuets until bam, it was time to move! They slid across the ice at a steady speed, Twilight focused on the rock before him, wanting to knock it free from it's housing and as far from it as possible and as they drew closer to the line his grip tightened and then loosened. The rock slid free on the sheet and towards the offending stone. They all held their breath in anticipation and hope!

He had originally returned to his birth flight after many years away to watch the super blood wolf moon eclipse, and to celebrate the Crystalline Gala while he was there. But as he was strolling through the marketplace looking for souvenirs to bring home, he noticed a flyer for the Sornieth Winter Games. When Aiden read through the list of sports, he saw that alpine skiing was one of the events, and well... He hadn't skied in a long time, but Aiden still had many fond memories of skiing down snowy hills as a hatchling with his family. So Aiden had signed himself up for the slalom event. As he walked to the starting line, he tried to remember all of the skiing advice he had been told as a child. Hopefully it would come back to him soon enough... The race was starting soon. Aiden strapped on his skis and gripped his ski poles tightly, waiting for the signal to push off.

It must have happened on the trip, since he's always extremely careful about his equipment. "Well", he thought, "nothing to be done about it now". He readied his poles and waited for the race to start, his stomach tying itself in uncomfortable knots as he surveyed the many gates ahead of him. The referee gave the command to GO and go he did, bolting away from the starting line, racing through the first gate with an easy lean. The second gate approached and he twisted his body in an awkward direction to clear the gate, just getting his skis around it. "Too close", he hissed. Travelling downhill faster and faster, he managed to clear the third gate but cross-blocked it badly. This of course threw him off kilter and he began to lose control. In an agonizing moment of near disaster he careened sideways but miraculously held it together, just as he rounded the next gate. And then it happened. As he passed the gate his left ski shattered, leaving debris behind him. Desperately trying to right himself on his remaining ski he tripped and found himself suddenly airborne, gracefully somersaulting his way down the hill. "This is it, I'm going to die", he thought, calmly detached from the whole event. "Well, at least I got to experience the Eclipse", his mind obviously wandering. The last gate was in his sight and his right ski touched down just in time. He sailed around the gate, waved at the crowd and passed out.

At first he had been nervous because of the ice- being born in the desert, he never had a lot to do with said element. But after a while of practising with a friend who had migrated to their Clan from the lands of the Icewarden, he had gotten quite used to the slipperly, cold surface. It was fun to fasten those skating boots to his limbs and then take a good slide on the ice field- he moved quickly and agile like a snake. Yeah, he had a feeling he could win this thing... maybe he should take one or two 'Eclipse' for his breath, in case the ladies would swarm all around him after his performance? (are those things even still being sold, I don't know xD)
