Welcome to Nature's Real Life Scavenger Hunt! Hello Everyone! I’m Charliex8 and I will be hosting Nature’s 3rd Real Life Scavenger Hunt! I hope everyone has their eyes open this year, as not only will we be hunting for a set list of items, we will also be on the lookout for rare and mysterious cryptids too! Quote:
Cryptid – A creature whose existence is disputed, such as the Loch Ness Monster or Yeti
Do you think you’re ready to face Bigfoot? If so, put on your best shoes, grab your backpack and dust off your camera, as we set off on our very own cryptid hunt in the real world! Join me as we practice taking photos of strange plants and creatures, learn how to spot tracks, be more aware of the natural world around us and maybe…just maybe...we will be prepared enough to take our very own photo of a sneaky cryptid! |

This works a lot like a real scavenger hunt. I give you a list of items to search for in the real world, but instead of collecting the items, you take a photograph of them!
I understand that not everyone can easily access the great outdoors, which is why I have included a wide variety of challenges to suit everybody! While most tasks will require a trip to the outside world, I have included a range of activities that can be achieved indoors too!
I have tried to make the challenges as open as possible, to make sure everyone from around the world has a fair chance, but please be aware that this is supposed to be a challenge. Some people may find things easier than others. If you come across a challenge that is absolutely impossible where you live please let me know so we can try to work something out.
If you're unsure about anything, please don't hesitate to ping or PM me @Charliex8

Research invasive species in your country and write a little (2-3 sentences will do!) about the impact they have had to your environment. Google is your friend here!

Either take photos of yourself planting a seed or take a before and after photo to record growth.
Try cress or a sunflower for something fast growing, or try taking a cutting! Record growth of an existing plant or try regrowing carrot tops by putting them in some water. You can even try experimenting with growing mold! Check the internet for more ideas!

And finally....photograph that Cryptid! Try to make it look authentic!

We have a lot of trainee cryptid hunters gathered here...make yourself a name card so we don't forget who you are!

|
xxxxxxxxxxx | The Hunt! |
|
3. Tree - 10 points
A nice easy one for starters! Also a great hiding place for many cryptids...better check for the Sasquatch hiding behind it...
4. Flower - 10 points
Get some photography practice in! Blossoms count here too!
5. An Unusual Stick - 10 points
Cryptids are very strange beasts...train your eyes to hone in on these unusual creatures by looking for something strange
6. Clouds - 10 points
Clouds provide plenty of cover for flying cryptids! Keep your eye on the sky!
7. Three different types of Leaves
- 10 points
Leaves are great for camouflage! You'll need to blend in if you hope to photograph an elusive cryptid. Try finding 3 different kinds. Different colours also count! Either take separate photos, or put them all together in one.
8. Biggest Rock you can find - 10 points
It's amazing how cryptids so big have eluded being seen for so long...practice by finding the biggest rock you can!
9. Something you think is beautiful
- 10 points
More photography practice! Try to take a photo of something you think is beautiful. The light shining through the trees? Your favourite place? A rainbow? Try to capture it's beauty.
10. Sunrise/Sunset - 20 points
If you hope to have a glimpse of a cryptid, you'll have to get up early and go to bed late! Show me those pretty sunrise/sunset colors
11. Feather - 20 points
Is this the feather of a common song bird?...or the mighty Thunderbird!
12. Fruit or Berries - 20 points
Before you start looking for a cryptid, you'll want to make sure there is plenty of food around. If it's hungry, it might eat you!
Nuts counts here too!
13. Fungus - 20 points
Mushrooms, lichen and mold. Very strange life forms, just like some of the cryptids we hope to see! Tip - try looking for lichen in graveyards!
14. Lake, pond, river or stream - 20 points
Even cryptids need water to survive! Find some! The ocean and even puddles count too!
15. Animal tracks or traces - 30 points
I think you're ready to really test your skills now! Try finding tracks or traces that animals (or a cryptid) has left! Look for footprints, nests, natural walkways, leftovers or even poo! Dog paw prints count here too!
16. Mammal - 30 points
Time to practice moving subjects! Try tracking down a mammal and take a cheeky photo. Stray cats and dogs count if they are common in your country but only as a last resort.
17. Bird - 30 points
Patience and stealth will be needed to attempt this one! Try your best and remember your photo doesn't have to be perfect!
18. Reptile, Amphibian or Fish - 30 points
No legs, webbed feet, fins...Search wet or warm places for these cold-blooded animals. Caution should be used to capture these sometimes venomous creatures who slither, hop, crawl, and swim.
19. Bee, Butterfly, Dragonfly or Moth
- 30 points
Small, fast and flying! Test your photography skills with these winged mini beasts!
Wasps, hornets, hoverflies and damselflies count here too! Any other insect you may find counts in Challenge 20!
20. Creepy Crawly - 30 points
Small, creepy and too many legs! These tiny bugs are the stuff of nightmares for many! If you can face one of these, you are ready to take on any cryptid! Take a photo of an insect, spider or slug/snail. If it's creepy or crawly it counts!

21. Go Litter Picking - 20 points
Litter has a negative effect on many plants and animals (including cryptids!) Pick some up and throw it away in the appropriate place. Be careful of unsanitary or dangerous items and don't forget to wash your hands!
22. Go on a Picnic - 20 points
Looking for cryptids is hard work! Take a break and enjoy eating a meal outside. Take a photo of your yummy snacks. Even having a bite to eat in your back garden or balcony counts!
23. Research Invasive Species in
your Country - 20 points
Many plants and animals have been introduced into the wild by humans. Many of these "invaders" have an impact to your country's environment (which also effects how cryptids live too!)
Research invasive species in your country and write a little (2-3 sentences will do!) about the impact they have had to your environment. Google is your friend here!
24. Grow Something! - 20 points
Let's test your patience and green thumbs with this challenge! Grow something! Anything!
25. Feed or water your local wildlife
- 20 points
Time to set the bait for the cryptids!
Humans have had a big impact on wildlife. Many animals have lost food and water resources due to buildings and farming. Help them out by leaving some healthy food or water for them. Leave out a shallow bowl of water for any passing mammals or feed the birds or ducks. Make sure to research the best food to leave out! |
