@GhostPepper : :D It is my hiatus in story form! I made some kinda weird lore reason for it and I think it makes enough sense, but we'll find out when I post it lol. And I know I'm sorry Nightwing is a dingus! But like. Once I thought it he became Literally The Worst and I was so hype haha. AND FR WON'T LET ME SWEAR BUT HICKITY HECKITY YEAH I WANNA SEE THE DRAWINGS OF DAWN AND HER GF AHHHH

@lilystar6 : Hahaha yeah ^^' It's not yearly hibernation but just like my random hiatus. Maybe it will make sense when I have the next chapter up, maybe not, either way I found it fun to explore!

@ZippoFeuer : :D Omg thank you so much! I so appreciate it, now he can take his proper place in the line up! Lol I was just gonna put Abrianna there hahah

@Alcorin : Do it. Enact strong violence. The boy must suffer for his sins. And omg heck yeah! Mint will be right on her way then! Thank you so much!

@Returu : Omg thank you! Two of my babies running off to the same place! Debris will be so happy to know they get to meet! I'll send him right over :D

@Amberclawed : Indeedio she is! I'll send her right over!

And then for all three of you, because I said in that one chapter that all three of them stayed a little longer than normal to train in case they came across their dad... I ended up training them to be stronger than him. I exalted him, and I exalt at 8, so all three are level 9. I hope that's okay! And I have a blurb for their departure :3

The day that the children she had with Nightwing departed was a tense one. They all promised her that they would be safe and even sparred with her for a couple of minutes each to prove to her that they were strong; stronger than Nightwing was.

What really put her mind at ease was the fact that Mint and Sky were going to be traveling together. They were both drawn to the Starfall Isles it seemed, and would part ways as they got closer to their destinations.

Monarch, however, was going to the Sunbeam Ruins. Debris didn't even need to ask him before Daunt offered to escort her there, as he was a light drgaon himself and often flew back to see his home and reminisce.

She rubbed necks with all three of them and rumbled low in her throat to tell them she loved them. It hadn't been as hard to watch the others leave, she had to admit. These three had been through so much with her. She wished them all the luck in the world.

They were all bigger and stronger than their father anyway.

It was Nightwing who was really in trouble.

Aaaaaand there you go. Thank you all again, the hatching of Ruben's babies will be up soon!

I owe you guys one last chapter after this before I'm caught up! I hope my explanation of Slumber isn't too silly or weird, and I hope you all enjoy! ------- Debris woke up two months later. In a daze, Debris lifted her head and looked around. Where was she? What was happening? Why was every muscle in her body so weak? Next to her, Fiona groaned and startled Debris. She glanced over and saw the bogsneak, who had at some point acquired Lyle on top of her, was just starting to rise, pushing the nocturne off. The bogsneak rumbled something and stirred as Debris did, earning a light growl from Lyle. No one else was in the nesting grounds. Someone else had been in here when they had fallen asleep, she thought. Lazily turning her head, Debris checked her eggs to make sure they were still there and whole. Her nest had all three eggs accounted for, healthy and bouncing lightly. The bouncing eggs? The eggs were hatching. “Holy Knotted Wingsinger what is happening,” Debris groaned, trying to shake off the sleep and unsteadily getting to her feet. Fiona fell over with a grunt as Lyle started to wake up, the two trapped in each other’s limbs in confusion. Taking a moment to assist her friend, Debris pulled Lyle off of Fiona even as he thrashed in confusion. He settled down when he opened his eyes, but the sight of Lyle flailing around like a confused hatchling instead of sneaking round gracefully made Debris smile. “Bri,” Fiona wheezed, having gotten to her feet and sat down on her haunches as she cleared her eyes. “What in the name of the arcanist is going on?” “No idea, but the eggs are hatching, Fi,” Debris said, stomach growling with hunger. When did she eat last? “Why wouldn’t they be,” Fiona grumbled back. Debris knew things were weird when Fiona didn’t judge her as she leaned down to rip up grass by the roots to eat it and the dew on it. It must have been early morning, then. “What timing, right?” Debris asked, having a bit more voice now that she had even a little bit of moisture in her mouth. She was about ready to eat Fiona, though. The second these eggs hatched, she was going to eat her way through the clan’s food storage. Speaking of eggs, one basically snapped in half, almost making Debris jump as a tiny grey hatchling spilled out, bright pink underbelly bringing a smile to Debris’ face. Fiona stumbled over to Debris to crane her neck at the little boy that Debris was herding over, Lyle sluggishly following behind her. Debris had never seen Lyle move that slowly in his entire life. “He’s cute.” The new guardian boy squeaked at her and Fiona, cuddling against Debris’ wing with a content sigh. Quickly after that baby finished hatching, the second one began to tumble out. A much darker head snuck through to reveal a second guardian child with pink wings slowly snaking out of the shell. “Hello, little ones,” Debris croaked in the best version of a happy hello she could manage. She felt warm all over, and she could see Fiona’s smile appearing on her face. This was why she was still looking. This was what finding her charge was about. Just a moment later, a tiny horn broke through the shell beside her. A pearlcatcher head broke through, and without even fully emerging from the shell, she started crunching on the eggshell surrounding her, making sure to get every last scrap. Debris was a little disturbed watching it to be entirely truthful, but she knew that’s just what pearlcatchers did. The baby girl was still adorable, and it was her first pearlcatcher child. It was kind of lovely once you got used to the sound and got over the concern that the baby would hurt itself doing so. “That’s so weird,” Fiona said with a snort, cocking her head as she saw the baby eating the shell. Yawning, Lyle curled against Fiona’s side, watching the babies with half-lidded eyes. The second guardian boy squirmed over to him, and he cocked an eyebrow at him, but left him there. “It’s kind of cool, I’ve never seen it happen before,” Debris remarked, craning her neck over. She bit back a yelp as the little girl started choking. Oh Windsinger above, was this supposed to happen? Was Debris supposed to help? What if she didn’t get the pearl up? She was starting to panic the more the little baby gagged, and Debris watched a literal lump rising up in the little one’s throat. “Is she okay?!” Debris asked, panicked. She didn’t want to hit her back; she was so little! “I don’t know, I’m not a pearlcatcher!” Fiona exclaimed back, and Lyle rose his head to look over. Debris didn’t know what to do. You know who would? Ruben; the pearlcatcher who technically fathered this child. She was starting to think she should have just found another guy to ask; she wouldn’t be in the dark then. “She’s fine,” Lyle said, catching the attention of the girls. “It always feels like it takes longer than it actually does. She’ll get it up,” Lyle finished. Debris stared at him owlishly. “Oh, yeah, I forgot your first children were pearlcatchers,” Fiona commented. Debris didn’t know he had had children before he met Fiona? A moment later, as if on cue, the little pearlcatcher finally coughed out the pearl and weakly wound around it, purring quietly like a cat. With that, all the excitement died down, and Debris had a moment to finally gather her thoughts. “Well,” she finally said, looking over her children and Lyle and Fiona, “which one of us can get to the food storage and back fastest?” ------ It turned out to be Lyle. When he returned with a giant sack of food (mostly meat, as all three of the adults ate it and her children were all sleeping to recuperate from hatching), he also returned with the answer to Debris’ primary question: what the hell happened to her? What is was was weird. The clan referred to it as ‘The Slumber’, and happened to dragon clans from time to time. It happened to Debris’ clan twice, only once before Debris was hatched. She had actually been laid before the slumber and hatched after, meaning she was in her egg for two years. That took her some time to process. It generally was unpredictable until it was only days away, leaving the clan with almost no time to prepare. Lena and the other mages put up wards and spells to keep people away, but dragons generally knew that if an entire clan was out, disturbing them was forbidden. Sometimes, nomadic clans that discovered another, slumbering clan, would go out of their way to keep them safe from anyone breaking divine law or beastclans attempting to disturb them. It was almost never needed. The social taboo was enough to stop most dragons, and there were even cases of divine retribution for dragons that attacked a clan caught in slumber. Some clans never woke up from it. The very thought of it made Debris shiver in fear. So she tried to put it out of her mind. It wasn’t that hard when there was mounds of food in front of her and children that needed names. “Okay, I don’t know why, but I have no ideas for the first boy other than Vikrum,” Debris said, munching on fruit and relishing in the sweet juice as she looked over her sleepy babies. Fiona snorted as she tore into a micro-deer. “Vikrum? Where did you get that?” “It was the name of this dude in a play,” Debris said, unhelpful and vague, squinting as she tried to remember what play. “He was a guardian with light-ish wings too,” she finished, crushing an apple in her teeth. “Sure, Vikrum works,” Fiona said with a shrug. “What about for his brother?” “Plum,” Debris said instantly. Fiona laughed and Debris narrowed her eyes at her. “What?” “Wonder where you got that name?” Fiona said, gesturing to the pile of fruit Debris was working on. Flushing, Debris defended herself by following up with “yeah, well, he has a darker body color and then a deep pink underbelly, kinda like plum colors!” “Sure, sure, whatever,” Fiona said with a smirk. Lyle, who had been sitting near the pearlcatcher girl, picked up his head. “I have a suggestion for your daughter,” he stated, and did not wait to continue. “Renata, as in born again or new beginnings,” he said. When neither girl spoke up, he finished with “Pearlcatchers were Lightweavers new beginning after her first children the imperials. She may also symbolize your new beginning; moving past Nightwing and on to better times.” Debris was stunned. Not only from Lyle’s beautiful explanation of the name she was definitely keeping, but Fiona loved positively love-struck listening to him. She had no idea what to think. She didn’t even make fun of her for it; it was becoming clearer and clearer what Fiona saw in the reclusive gem watcher of the clan. “I love it, Lyle, thank you,” Debris said, looking to her new daughter. Renata. How lovely. “Renata it is,” she said, smiling softly at her kids. Ever baby was a new beginning, a new chance at life. None of them were her charge, but she could feel her heart swell looking at them, like every child before them. She was glad to be doing this. ------- This one took the longest to write because naming is hard. Anyway, thanks for reading! ALRIGHTY, the hatching! I owe you guys one last chapter after this before I'm caught up! I hope my explanation of Slumber isn't too silly or weird, and I hope you all enjoy!

Debris woke up two months later.

Are You My Charge?
100 Hatchling Challenge!

56852904.png
Fated For Greatness
A Pinkerlocke
@Nyebe : :DDDDD Thank you so much! I'm having a blast writing this! @SariStar @Mollusk @Returu @Dragonfruiteen @TheAwesoMew @Tufira @AmberVRaptor @Insectoid @Cinderspark @bfkitsune @Flay624 @EccentricElf23 @ShatterSoul @Wolfyblocks @Foxe @GloryEternal @phantomsonic @Akura @EmeraldJubilee @BlueCoriander @GhostPepper @LostTravels @Redtiger7736 @ChromeAsh @BlackIvy @Alcorin I KNOW IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN FOUR HOURS SINCE MY LAST POST... But rollover hit so it is technically the next day and I finished the writing so I'm CAUGHT UP. ------ During Slumber, everyone had reached a point in their cycle where they were ready to nest again. Needless to say, that got everyone a little… Erm… Amorous, to say the least. Everyone was awake again, but that did not mean many dragons were milled about. Almost everyone in the clan was laying or contributing to the laying of eggs. The weird pink and purple cult that lived within and sort of with the clan had all had their eggs first, and had brought about 13 new hatchlings all running around at the same time. Debris waited until her three newest were old enough to exist on their own (though even then she was looking for a male to lay with her, previous worries forgotten with desire) and then she was trying to nest as fast as she could. Thinking of Daunt mostly (she had already had a nest with him, but no one was saying she couldn’t, even if she thought having her charge with him wasn’t very likely), she wandered over to the fae colony built in the trees. Sadly she saw him flying away with Fugue, the two of them giggling happily as they went. She had a feeling she would be seeing them in the nesting grounds later. Then she saw her son, Ephriam, doing essentially the same thing with his mate, Ighte, and Debris made a face. She was glad he had someone once he had returned home, for sure, but seeing it? Was a little different. She was almost tempted to wait a little longer so she wouldn’t share the nesting grounds with him -- it’s not like other dragons wouldn’t immediately snap up the space anyway. But the desire to nest was overwhelming, so she just kept walking around the fae colony. A bunch of guys she hadn’t been with before lived here. Speaking of which… [columns] [nextcol]“Why hello, I think you’ve found what you’re looking for,” Jace, a black fae with red wings practically sang at her. He was the crown prince, if the clan leader Tressa was the queen. Next in command. And he was acting a whole fool as always. And it was even easier to hear the pure arrogance in his voice now that he had a voice modulator that Ighte had invented. It picked up on the dragon-wearer’s energies and adjusted their voice inflection as such; it was a marvelous invention that done wonders for communication in the clan given how many fae there were.[/columns] Unfortunately, she did not want to communicate with this particular fae. He was the son of someone important and he sure did act like it. “Thanks but not really, see ya,” Debris said, walking straight past him. She practically heard the smile fall off his face as he sputtered behind her. A moment later, she heard him flying frantically after her. “Uhm, do you know who you’re talking to?” Jace asked, voice modulator conveying to her just how frazzled he was. “Do you?” Debris asked back, and it was like she had struck him. She almost laughed out loud as he almost fell out of the air. “Tell me my name and we can talk about having a nest together.” Jace looked like he was choking - hard. “I-” He started, blinking rapidly and fluttering his wings in agitation. “You- But I mean-” “Well,” Debris started, “as nice as you look in that cute little bib,” she said, gesturing to what was clearly a black handkerchief that the voice modulator was embedded in, “I’m gonna have to pass.” Jace had eyes like saucers. He had clearly never been denied anything in his entire life. Finally, he shrieked “It’s not a bib!” From a nearby cocoon another fae poked his head out, looking at the two dragons by his nest before locking his blood red eyes onto Jace. “Get away from my den.” “But Coast-!” Jace started, voice still shrill with anger. “I will poison everything you have ever wanted to eat,” Coast replied before Jace could finish. He wasn’t wearing a voice modulator and his communication frills barely moved on his head but Debris wholeheartedly believed him and his deadpan voice. Apparently so did Jace, because the crown prince flew away dejectedly, apparently still shocked he wasn’t on a nest right now. “Thank you,” Debris said with a small laugh, looking over to the dragon still in the tree. He eyed her back. “I’ll get going now; I didn’t mean to disturb you.” “Don’t.” Coast said nothing after that to elaborate, just cocked his head as he looked over her. Debris blushed slightly, but sat down to talk with him. ------ Debris had been right about everyone she had guessed at. She occupied a nest in the grounds with Coast currently, with three new eggs. Next to them, Fiona and Lyle also tended to three eggs, glancing at each and seeming content. Daunt was wrapped up in Fugue with two eggs, and Ephriam and Ighte danced above their own two eggs, giggling still in delight. Even the clan seer, Galaxy, was on a single egg with a mirror named Luka that Debris had been shocked to find out was her great-grandson. Ephriam had had a nest with Ighte, which produced Monica, who had a nest with a dragon named Sunflash, and that had produced Luka. The whole nesting grounds was filled with friends and family, so there was a lot of chatter, even though Luka seemed kind of quiet and shy for a mirror. “So,” Debris started, looking to Fiona with a grin. “This should be a fun hatch day.” Fiona snorted, wrapping a wings around her eggs. “Should be.” ------ Yeah after hiatus everyone was ready to breed and I filled all five nests immediately with my breeding project dragons. They came SO CLOSE to having the baby I'm DESPERATELY trying to breed - but still she evades me. Naturally when they hatched I filled all the nests again and had to frantically clear space for eleven children to hatch; but what can you do. Next will be the coatl/wildclaw boom B) Anyway, thank you again for reading, and I promise I'll cool it with the posting lol. Debris' nest with Coast hatches tomorrow, so I'll try to have it up by then or the next day.

I KNOW IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN FOUR HOURS SINCE MY LAST POST... But rollover hit so it is technically the next day and I finished the writing so I'm CAUGHT UP.

During Slumber, everyone had reached a point in their cycle where they were ready to nest again.

Speaking of which…

“Why hello, I think you’ve found what you’re looking for,” Jace, a black fae with red wings practically sang at her. He was the crown prince, if the clan leader Tressa was the queen. Next in command. And he was acting a whole fool as always. And it was even easier to hear the pure arrogance in his voice now that he had a voice modulator that Ighte had invented. It picked up on the dragon-wearer’s energies and adjusted their voice inflection as such; it was a marvelous invention that done wonders for communication in the clan given how many fae there were.

Unfortunately, she did not want to communicate with this particular fae.

“Tell me my name and we can talk about having a nest together.”

Jace looked like he was choking - hard. “I-” He started, blinking rapidly and fluttering his wings in agitation. “You- But I mean-”

“Well,” Debris started, “as nice as you look in that cute little bib,” she said, gesturing to what was clearly a black handkerchief that the voice modulator was embedded in, “I’m gonna have to pass.”

Jace had eyes like saucers. He had clearly never been denied anything in his entire life. Finally, he shrieked “It’s not a bib!”

From a nearby cocoon another fae poked his head out, looking at the two dragons by his nest before locking his blood red eyes onto Jace. “Get away from my den.”

“But Coast-!” Jace started, voice still shrill with anger.

“I’ll get going now; I didn’t mean to disturb you.”

“Don’t.” Coast said nothing after that to elaborate, just cocked his head as he looked over her. Debris blushed slightly, but sat down to talk with him.

Debris had been right about everyone she had guessed at.

“This should be a fun hatch day.”

Fiona snorted, wrapping a wings around her eggs. “Should be.”
