Honestly at this point I wouldn't even mind being wegged, if only for the novelty factor.
TOPIC | [Personal]A Legacy of Lore & Locke
@fenshae
Hey, I hope you don't mind my asking this, but would you mind if I tried out this challenge for myself? My actual pinkerlocke is on hold and I'd love to actually finish a legacy of war...

FINALLY A DANG TRINKET.
Do you know how many stupid boxes I have to open in my hoard thanks to these dummies.
You're about to, because I'm about to open them. But first...

To say Pascale was pleased was an understatement. It seemed his endeavors to send ambassadors out through Sornieth had worked as planned: His school had never had such good PR.
Admittedly, there were detractors. Prying eyes turned toward his magical academy, with questions that were inconvenient to answer. Among them: Why did so few graduate? Why did so many never return home? And just where was this evil that he claimed to be preparing to defeat, anyway?
That last was a question he had heard muttered with great irritation by certain students when they thought no one was listening. He did not fault them for it, but he would not give them an answer. They'd see soon enough. It would not do to tip his hand.
But regardless: They were gaining favor with the dragonfolk of Sornieth, and the donations were more plentiful than ever. If he kept this up, he could be free of Darius's patronage entirely. No more bowing and scraping to the likes of Briallen and her rich friends, either. No more cultural elites.
Only a priesthood of one, and his disciples.

"This seems interesting, Headmaster." Ashur held up the statue, tilting his head thoughtfully to examine it. "It seems rife with...some sort of energy."
He handed it off to Pascale, who could feel the tingle of magic as it touched his claws. He smiled, closing his eyes; he could almost taste its power, could see in the darkness of his mind its twisting, tangling energies. With a flick of his wrist, he could undo it, cause its magics to implode.
But he restrained himself. This artifact would be put to better use.
He took the item to his archaeological professor, Rafadel, who spent some time examining it.
"A fertility statue," the wildclaw said, at length. "A holdover from those who worshipped the elder gods. A fortunate find."
"Fortunate? No, no, I think this may be a signal from...someone who knows well what we are up against." Pascale's eyes glittered. "We should put it to use, to see whether it works as intended."
"One of the youngsters, my lord?" Ashur asked, almost boredly.
Pascale shook his head. "No, no...it would be a waste, if it did not work. What about the spare? Soraka?"
Ashur thought about it for a moment, and then shrugged. "I imagine she would do as well as any. Have you a mate in mind?"
The headmaster pondered the thought. "None of their crew. The time has not come for that, yet." He began to pace, tail twitching, catlike, behind him. "What of our freshmen? Surely there is some youngster..." he stopped in place, grinning. "Arahael? He's a handsome lad. I'm sure they'd have much in common."
Ashur sighed. "Well enough. I shall go advise them of their...duties."

Soraka is now sitting a nest with Arahael, who has been rescued from my fodder bin.

And, hey, that fertility statue seems to have worked, because they've got three eggs. Maybe it'll work for the challenge dragons, too, once the kinks are worked out?

Was it strange that Soraka had felt left out -- not being chosen as heir, watching as her sister had assumed that role? Where was Nimriel now? How had that worked out for her?
She was gone, and Soraka was here, and that should have been enough.
She was ashamed to admit how relieved she was to be sitting a nest of her own.
Arahael, nervous, not yet part of this strange new reality that they had built for themselves, wondered aloud: "Do you think our hatchlings will be safe?"
Soraka simply shrugged. "Perhaps."
But she knew that was the wrong question to ask.
The real question: Would they be useful?
