Based upon the Legacy of War challenge.
--

I'm back from a long hiatus and thought it might be fun to do a long challenge to repopulate my lair and provide some lore opportunities and such. I'm doing a modified version of the Legacy challenge. Here are the rules I've set for myself:
Quote:
 • The starter dragon is the cheapest triple-basic common breed on the auction house.
 • The starter dragon's mate needs to cost less than 10k and must be purchased for this purpose.
 • The heir is chosen via coliseum - the last dragon standing survives to carry on the genes.
 • The mate for the heir can cost 10k more than the last generation's mate.
 • The final heir must be triple-gened, a rare breed and pleasing to look at.
 • The heir and the mate cannot be scried together prior to buying the mate, but scries of the heir to inspect color ranges and speculative gene combinations are OK. Once the mate is purchased, they can be scried all you want.
Once the heir has been born, he or she will join a growing clan that -- under Pascale's guidance -- may some day become the supreme army of those who fight the darkness. They'll have quite a lot of growing to do before that happens, though.

In order to train them, a series of challenges lay before them.....a modified Pinkerlocke!

Here are the rules:
Quote:
 • When a dragon dies in the coliseum, that dragon shall be exalted.
 • Unless otherwise specified, coli teams will be chosen via RNG and the venue will be one tier lower than the highest level dragon.
 • When an heir is chosen via the usual method in the legacy challenge, it will join the 'locke.
 • When a dragon reaches level 10, it can get a primary gene. 15, a secondary gene. 20, a tertiary. At level 25, the dragon can be retired from the challenge.
 • When a non-Legacy nest hatches, flip a coin for each hatchling. Heads = it lives. Tails = it dies.
 • All items used for/on 'locke dragons, from potions and battlestones to genes, must be obtained through 'locke activities.

Drops of Fate
Food: Coliseum time!
Plants: 10-20 matches
Insects: 20-30 matches
Seafood: 30-40 matches
Meat: 40-50 matches

Medium Mode: Team is selected by RNG if there are more than 3 to choose from. Coliseum level is one tier lower than the highest level dragon. Whichever venue they start in, they stay in for that day regardless of levels gained. Ending battle streak, fleeing battle and using potions is fine, refreshing the coli is not.

Materials: Writing
Write some lore for the 'locke dragons, update profiles or obtain art for them. This lore is in addition to the stuff written for the Legacy challenge.

Trinkets: Open Chests
On days I get trinkets, any chests and other open-able containers can be opened and their contents recorded and added to the 'locke funds. Containers cannot be opened on any other day.

Battle Items: Death Streak!
Flip a coin.
Heads = Nothing happens
Tails = Death Streak
RNG a coli team and play 10 consecutive rounds OR until a dragon dies. Potions are OK, retreat is not!

Apparel: The day's exalting profits go to the 'locke.
Normally, the funds for the 'locke are separate from the rest of my lair. On Apparel days, however, ALL funds earned during the day can go toward the 'locke's coffers.

Familiar: Buy something nice for yourself.
EITHER a dragon can be purchased (and optionally immediately bred) to add to the 'locke, OR a gene can be purchased for use on a dragon when their level reaches the appropriate, um, level.

FINANCIAL RULES
Pascale is masterminding this scheme and is more than happy to pay for their necessary expenses...under certain limitations.
 • At the beginning of the challenge, 3/11/18, treasure goes into my vault. Any money made by the 'locke stays on-hand. All purchases for the challenge (dragons, genes) must come from this money.
 • Any money made from training and exalting dragons belongs to the school (aka my lair) EXCEPT on apparel days. All of that money should go immediately into the vault.
 • Challenge dragons are free to wear any skin or apparel already in my hoard but cannot buy anything new unless with their own money.
 • All potions, battle stones etc. must come from coli drops (never purchased), BUT they can steal battle supplies from the school (aka, coli drops from my usual exalting team).
 • Gathering, bonding with familiars and all trading post and fairgrounds activity is considered to be done by the challenge dragons, so they get those profits.
Basically: I make my money primarily from buying cheap hatchlings and training/exalting them, and THAT money is off-limits to Challenge dragons except for on "Apparel" days. Otherwise, any money made throughout the day can be used by the challenge dragons, BUT things they need can only be purchased on "Familiar" days. They're otherwise limited to using whatever is already sitting in my hoard or what they are able to find themselves.

First Generation

Pearl and Saxxon took some time to warm up to their arrangement, but in the end Pascale's hopes proved successful. The pair currently sits a three-egg nest:

We've got one gene upgrade, which would be very helpful, but the colors on the other two are also quite lovely. I guess we'll see what happens when they hit the training fields in a few days...

@TropicalDiamonds I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it :) Today is an exciting day!
Today was the day, and a ripple of excitement and nerves made its way through the assembled gathering. There were the hatchlings -- children no more, newly grown and nervous, clustered together and prepared to face the challenges that were to come. And then there was Pearl, who knew she would regret witnessing this but came to watch all the same. As always, Pascale, pacing quietly around the edges, providing quiet instruction. They ventured into the training fields, each of them eager to prove themselves...and eager, too, to avoid the fate that awaited them if they failed. Rafiel proved fastest on his feet, dodging and weaving around attacks -- but reckless, too, and frequently on the front lines of battle. Endor came out as a clear favorite early on, slaying the first enemy and several of those who followed. Altogether, the group met with four waves of villains. Nearing exhaustion, Rafiel managed to dodge a fatal blow, only to see it hit Endor square in the face, downing him. In a stunning upset, though, it would not be Rafiel who got his revenge -- but quiet Andrick, who had primarily hung back, striking only when convenient. No one would have expected him to be the last dragon standing...but as Pascale had always known, power liked to hide in surprising places. The others would be sacrificed in the ritual way, their energy recycled into their sibling. He would need all of the help he could get. Pearl, her role in this complete, was left to grieve on her own. In time, she would understand.
Welp. Needless to say that was not my favorite pick for heir! But he shows some promise. He'll be breedable in 9 days, so I have that much time to pick him up a girlfriend and hope for the best.

Oh Andtrick could be worse, for sure. I do hope he makes a cute nest at the least! Sad to see the others leave. :c

Apparently I'm going to be working with Guardians for at least a little while longer? Hopefully they spawn some good heirs! The pair will be ready to breed in 8 days.

Tomorrow is breeding day!

But today I wanted to make a little update about a small milestone I reached, and also share some future plans and miscellaneous thoughts about my clan lore since this is, well...a legacy of lore.

Today I finished my 20th profile, meaning all of my front-page dragons have finished profiles. Most of them still need extended lore, but I'm making progress.

My lair is divided up into a few separate groups, because they don't all live together. The front-pagers are all miscellaneous clusters whose stories sort of overlap: There's Ulryk, Anackire and Bloodborne, who travel together; Selah, her servant Brightsoul and the two wildcats that live in their home; the disgraced king Darius and what's left of his court; a few residents of the Hewn City.

Page 2 are all dragons tied up intimately in the Library of Forbidden Knowledge, an ancient and half-ruined tower in the Hewn City that contains (as you might guess) a library filled with venerable tomes. It serves as a school and (unbeknownst to many) the center of Pascale's burgeoning death cult. Well. He doesn't think of it as a death cult. He considers all of the sacrifices as very necessary thank-you-very-much; in fact, he takes responsibility for the Bounty of the Elements as a sure sign that his plan is working.

Regardless: The Page 2 dragons are all either professors, researchers or full-time students of the school. Other students, aka exalt fodder, live on pages 3, 4, and 5.

Right now I have a few place-holder dragons in Page 2 that I don't know 100% will end up staying on as permas, but they'll need to be replaced if not in order to maintain my organizational system :D

ANYWAY. The Legacy of Lore dragons (aka, Pascale's favorite pet project) live on Page 3. My intention is to never have more than 3 pages of perma dragons in my lair, since I need room for fodder and I don't want to make my lair any bigger for lore reasons.

Anyhoo. One day, I'll have a whole proper lore thread and a full story and all that, probably, but I want all of my profiles completed first.

I DO, however, have a Top Secret Very Special Twist planned for the Legacy of Lore, which shall be revealed quite soon.

I just...felt like rambling for a little bit about my lore and my lair because...it felt like the thing to do.

Tune in tomorrow to see how many eggs Andrick and Isolde manage to lay!
