Quests & Challenges

This is an idea I came up with when I was falling asleep the other day, so take that for what it's worth, but I thought it might be interesting to try it out. Basically, I'm going to randomly select two ready-to-breed dragons from the AH, breed them, randomly select one of their kids as heir when they hatch, wait until the heir is ready to breed and then randomly select a mate for it... and so forth, for as many generations as I feel like continuing. Names for hatchlings and any unnamed mates will also be randomly selected from a variety of sources. As an additional challenge, I'll be selecting mates for the heirs from the AH based on the number of the current generation. So the Generation 1 mate will be randomly chosen from the first page of RTB dragons, the Gen 2 mate will be selected from the second page [i]or the first page[/i] (depending on what random.org spits out), the Gen 3 mate will be chosen from the third page or either of the preceding pages, etc. I don't have an end goal/win condition in mind for this, apart from seeing what wacky and beautiful color/gene combos the various pairings will produce, but that's as good a goal as any in my book. This thread's also mainly a way for me to keep records of the various breeding results as I go along, but if you'd like to start your own challenge based on these rules, feel free to post here! I'm amenable to making a pinglist, too, if you'd like to be notified of updates on all the derg-related shenanigans. :D Also, if you're interested in any of my heirs/spares/mates, let me know! Heirs and their mates will need to produce babies before I can pass them on to you, obviously, but other than that I'm open to sending them your way if you've fallen in love with one (or more!) of the lineage. :)

I might wind up doing this when I have more lair space, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the challenge produces - I've made a few happy accidents in my lair. :)

Seriously though, I'm really stoked about this. I have a weakness for breeding/legacy challenges in general (obviously, since I now have three of them going :P), and random generators are my jam, so I'm excited to see what the results of combining the two will end up being. :D

I'll be using names in alphabetical order whenever possible, to help me keep track of generations, so Alline and Adriana's spawn will all have B-names, and the B-name's spawn will have C-names, and so on and so forth. I won't be able to set this nest for a few days yet, but I'm looking forward to it when I do. :)

Oh wow, Adriana's amazingly pretty! And I approve of ALLINE's capslock-y glory, especially with him being a Fae; I can just imagine other dragons expecting him to have this teeny-tiny little high-pitched voice, and then he opens his mouth AND ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE THIS. XD

Oh, Merida. I like her primary/secondary combo; her tert is a bit WTH but some of my most beloved dergs have weird terts, SO. It'll be interesting to see her mate and her offspring.

With that much capslock, I'm sure he could be adopted as an honorary Lightning derg. XD

Yeah, Merida's colors are a bit strange, but I'm pleased that she was chosen since her siblings both have basic terts that match their other colors even less than hers does. I put them in the Scrying Workshop earlier out of curiosity, and was all "OH HONEY, NO."

@LingwysticMistic OH LORT I just ran the other two in the Scrying Workshop with Underbelly out of curiosity. This one isn't so awful (not great but not awful), but this one is a bit... uh... of a fashion disaster? And I like blue and orange together, sometimes. :P

Merida really isn't bad. I have weirder dergs than her that I've bred and kept (like this girl).

I'm wondering how weird Alline and Adriana's offspring are gonna be (when I finally set that nest). I checked the Scrying Workshop and it looks like they'll either be cool or yeesh and not much in-between.

INORITE. I mean, depending on who they mated with, their colors might not end up being so bad. But I'm still glad Merida's the heir. :P

I hope your pair give you some pretty babies! I mean, half the point of the challenge is to see what sort of trainwrecks these dergs will produce, but it's still gratifying to get something aesthetically pleasing all the same.
