"YOU WANNA GO?!?!?"
The wildclaw's jaw distends like a snake's as he screams at the contestant next to him. Thankfully, the fact he already has his skiis on makes his stalking approach less stalking and more waddling. His unwilling rival uses this to his advantage, scooting well out of reach.
Thiv snorts once, smug and irritated at the same time.
"YEAH! YOU BETTER RUN!"
He pauses, as if confused, slowly and awkwardly turning in place. Spotting his next victim, he rounds on the approaching dragon.
"YOU WANNA GO?!??!?!??!??!" he screams, his crest puffing up.
"No, sir. I'm here to tell you it's your turn, sir." replies the unamused race official, giving the wildclaw the flattest of flat looks.

Piece of cake, the Wildclaw adjusting her winter clothing to protect her from the chill winds. She was much more used to the warm climes of Nature's labyrinth. But snow could be nice.
A crackling noise echoed across the hill - a magically-amplified loudspeaker was being set up. The announcer began to rattle off the introductions, and she smiled hearing her name mentioned. The announcer continued, detailing information about ski-jumping. She ignored most of what was said, but then jerked her head around suddenly as she caught the end of a sentence.
"...-our non-flighted friends, the use of wings to increase jump distance is prohibited! Contestants may choose to have their wings bound for the event, or-..."
Well, shoot. Not so easy.

"Awright, squad!" boomed Kisharaq. The normally-placid Ridgeback paced back and forth in front of the team, but though he was clearly nervous, his toothy grin remained on his face. "We're here for excitement. Glory. Maybe some prizes! Oh dear Stormcatcher in heaven, I'm a guard; I don't know why I'm here."
Though there were other anxious faces scattered throughout the Disillusionists' delegation, most of them appeared excited and confident. Hydrangea was among them. With her usual haughty air, she beat her wings, hovering daintily above the ground. She would put her skates on soon, but for now, she adjusted her crown, settling it more firmly atop her head. "Win or lose, one must always keep up appearances!" she thought, and she smiled as the next event was announced.
One by one, the performers glided across the ice...and then it was her turn. The music began - while it was true that she'd grimaced with concentration while practicing, she was able to smile freely now. Glory and prizes? --Well, nobody could be sure they'd get those. But fun...Well, she certainly was having fun right now! And furthermore...
@Azure As she glided past the cheering spectators, she couldn't resist beaming at a Midnight Wildclaw. "I saw you skiing earlier. You are a thing of beauty, dear sir!" she declared, and bowed as she ended her turn.
(Seriously, Thiv is amazing. XD)

Senka smiled softly at her clanmates. "I'll sign up for Alpine skiing," she volunteered. "I'm fast and agile, after all!"
Krystal shrugged. "Go ahead. I mean, most of us aren't exactly athletes..."
The warrior Spiral laughed and fluttered over to the booth. "Hello, I'm Senka," she greeted. "I'm from the Pleiades System clan of the Starfall Isles! I'd like to sign up for Alpine skiing, please." She waited patiently as the booth dragon scribbled down her name and assigned her a number.
She strolled over to the starting line.
Hopefully this won't be that difficult, Senka thought. Of course, she was a long, slithery Spiral, which might seem like a disadvantage, but she was willing.
Senka took a deep breath and prepared herself to start.

"Hello, I'd like to sign up for the Ski Jumping event?"
The dragon at the desk looked at him with a bored gaze.
"Name?"
"Shiloh."
He looked around aimlessly as the other dragon wrote his name on a long list.
"The use of wings during the Ski Jumping event is prohibited, all dragons need to have their wings bound before the competition."
"Okay! Do we bind them ourselves or-"
"We have a wing bounder at a station before the place where the Ski Jumping event resides. Here-" The dragon handed Shiloh a small, slightly faded map. There was a circle drawn around what appeared to be a small building not far from the Ski Jumping place, like she had said. "Just follow this and get your wings bound."
"Thank you very much!" Shiloh left the line with his map, looking it over before starting to fly to the wing binding station.
Maybe he was put on this place to participate in festivals, he thought.

For the fifth time, Sheena took off her dress, only to try on a different color. With figure skating, not only the figures themselves, not only the technique was important- it was the overall impression you gave off that mattered. And a nice dress, beautiful accessoires, groomed feathers, all of this counted into said impression.
One might even think that Sheena was only taking part in this contest so that she could sparkle in the center of attention, given that she had basically no experience with ice skating whatsoever. But who cared? There would be other beginners, dragons of the Fire flight even, who were even more unfamiliar with ice, so what was there to lose if she tried for a nice medal to [s]brag with[/s] display in her den?
This was her time to shine.

"No."
"Not even just a little tiny bit?"
"No."
"Not even the smallest flutter?"
"Of course not."
"How about-"
"Forget it."
"But-"
"Styx!"
His clanmate rolled his eyes and turned away, fed up by that overly excited Coatl. He was the best flyer in the Clan, so of course he wouldn't be too happy about the restriction in this contest, the fact that he wasn't allowed to use his wings. But really? He should have read the rules before signing up. For once.
The Coatl was awfully quiet-- for around three seconds, then he dashed after the other again.
"How about breathing fire, so the thamal winds make me rise higher?"
"Thermal winds. And no, magic is not allowed, either- and spitting fire counts as magic, I am pretty sure about that."
"Ah... okay, no problem then."
"No problem? Suddenly?"
"Yes, it just means that I will have to jump higher than everyone else, right?"
"Right... that seems to be the goal of this event."
"I can do that."
"Sure?"
"Sure! Oh look, what are these funny pieces of wood? Hey, how about I pile them up to light up a bonfire, to celebrate this event?"
"I doubt anyone would appreciate you lighting up the skis we need in this event..."
The Clan could only hope that motivation and energy would make up for lack of knowledge about what 'Ski Jumping' was to begin with.

Some dragons were putting on their skates, some were waving at their friends, some were praying to the Icewarden or heir own deities for luck in this race- but Diesel had better things to do. He was winking at the ladies.
Honestly, some dragons took these games way too serious, and some not serious enough. Diesel was a bit of both: too lazy to train, to careless to even act like this was an important event, but in case he won or lost, he would either brag about this for the coming months or tell everyone who wanted to hear (and who didn't want to hear) that the rules were unfair, the judges mobbed-up and the records scewed. But that was just the kind of character he had, not much would change about that.
Once he heard the signal to get ready, he finally moved to his position and the moment he directed his gaze into the distance where their goal would be, he felt the energy running through his veins. He would win this. And if he had to shove everyone else out of his way!

This was actually Azalea's second time participating in the winter games, and it was the very same discipline. Only that last time, his clan had pretty much talked him into playing along, because he was skilled when it came to finding his path in the wild. Not that it had much to do with this kind of game, anyway.
He hadn't wanted to, back then. But only after the winners had been announced had he realized how much fun it had been to him... and not winning one of the three big medals had tugged at him, maybe it had scratched a little bit at his pride.
So, here he was again, ready for another try. Ready to be better than last year.
This time, the skis felt familiar under his claws already, the snow and ice weren't a diffuse, eternal sheet of white anymore- he saw patterns, tracks, hints of what was hiding behind all this white, and he was willing to take in this wild nature.

Last year, Eminem had been too busy taking care of all the Clan's hatchlings to really be a part of the winter sports event but this year, another dragon had offered to watch after those little trouble makers for a bit so that she could at least participate in one of the games. And she had decided to try her best with the Luge- not because she was especially good at it, actually, she had never even tried it, but it just seemed like so much fun. She barely cared whether she would win or lose, though of course, she would give her best- but the most important thing was to have fun, and o have something she could tell the hatchlings afterwards. Maybe, if she placed a high rank, they would be so impressed that they would /listen/ to her when she suggested them to go to their dens to sleep early? Who knew!
