UGH Hey everyone! Terrible news: I have to close the Legacy Project now. T~T I'm EXTREMELY grateful for everything everyone has done so far and for all the support! But with me getting ready for going to college soon, it's all I can do to pop online sometimes on the weekends and weekdays. I hope everyone can understand? I'm REALLY sorry about this, but thank you all so much! We made so much progress with this and it was really fun to do this little experiment of mine. Hope everyone has a good rest of the year, and I apologize greatly once again!
The Legacy Project or Project Legacy is simply an experiment to breed generations of Dragons with new genes, colors, breeds, and (biological) genders.
Much like other Generation Challenges found, the Project is dependent on how many generations of Dragons can be bred and all that, but the Project primarily focuses on the scientific aspect of it, as if you were breeding generations of bunnies to create the perfect bunny.
That being said, we would very much appreciate if you could volunteer for taking a descendant (either my own Gen 2 hatches or another Generation's hatchlings) and breeding them in your own Clan! Here's the steps to how this works:
1) My Generation 1 Pairs will breed to create Generation 2 hatchlings. - All of these hatchlings will be Triple Basic, Common Breed.
2) The Generation 2 hatchling's info is recorded. - The following is always recorded: Generation #, Colors, Genes, (biological) Gender, Breed.
3) They are then sent to other Clans to be bred. - Preferably with a Mate that has different genes/colors/etc. to grow the genotype pool a bit.
4) The resulting Generation 3 hatchling's info is recorded, and sent to another Clan. - Or just stay in current Clan, that's fine too.
5) The steps are repeated for continuing Generations 4+. - And the process continues on and on as Generations grow, genes are gained, colors are changed, and the lineage of the Dragons evolves dramatically.

As this is being treated like a real breeding project, I will count the percentage of each hatchling's parentage, though you will not find it recorded simply because I will neither do it for all hatchlings nor will I choose any specific hatchling's heritage; this is simply to see how the hatchlings would be if they did indeed inherit mixed traits from their lineage and just to ponder how it would affect future lines if they did affect the outcomes of the offspring.

@/Superblox
Oops, I realized I wasn't very specific enough. I don't mean ACTUAL Gen2s, all that means is the hatchlings I give are the daughters/sons of the original first pair, so you can breed them with whomever you want and the resulting offspring will be Gen3s either way because they'll be the grandchildren of the original pair. Does that make sense? ^^;;

@/Rebdomine
Yup, this is true! As I mentioned, this is basically a Breeding Challenge I'm treating as an experiment. :3
By that, I mean I'm factoring in the parent's information into the offspring, as if they were rabbits or something. Like Ailran, a Tundra, and Luna, a Guardian, are both one of the G1 Parents. I made a corresponding Punnett Square to show that (even though it's not factored into FR whatsoever) they're offspring would be 50% Guard, and 50% Tundra in Phenotype (with a percentage of Mirror due to Luna's own parentage in the Genotype), both of them being Dominant as they're Common breeds so both having the likely chance of appearing, but the Offspring still 'carries' the Breed trait of the other. (Of course, FR doesn't factor this whatsoever, this is just for my own scientific interest.)
I digress, basically I'm just fascinated by the lineages of my own Dragons so I decided to do this and see the lineages of the hatchlings, all the while making my own deductions. If that makes sense? (I'm doing it simply because it's interesting to me. ^^)

Nah, for the mates of the descendants just post them on the Project's Hub and I'll have them added to the Ancestry Tree, but the Spreadsheet is solely for descendants (simply because A) there's going to be a LOT of descendants I can already tell and B) It'll get confusing once I add more Generation 1 Pairs. XD)
And yup! The more genes that vary from the descendant the better to increase the offspring's genetic diversity! ^^

You can breed him as many times as you like, I just prefer if he does end up getting bred at least once. ;3 As for the hatchlings, sure! You can send them to me, but make sure to post them here and ping the pinglist so others who would be interested in breeding the hatchlings know! I'd just hold them long enough till they hopefully find homes. :3
What is this?
"A simple question with a slightly more complex answer. This is an Experiment that starts at Clan Paladin; With the help of a few Dragons, hatchlings will begin as Triple Basic and have their Colors, (biological) Genders, and Breeds recorded. From there, a few will be sent to different homes to have their own hatchlings whom will have their own stats recorded, and it keeps going on and on."
What's the point of this?
"Sara is going into Genetics and LOVES genetic-themed experiments, so she decided instead of using living creatures like plants and such, she could use the Dragons of one of her favorite games instead. It's purely for self-interest, but you're welcome to use the data as you like!"
Why should I join?
"It's completely voluntary if you want to join or not, but if you want coercing: For one, it's an incredible Lore opportunity! As Clan Paladin is a full Lore Clan, and Lore abounds everywhere! For another it's also quite fun to see your own hatchlings join a large group of something awesome, which I've felt from participating in Breeding Challenges. That's really the only reasons I can think of other then 'just for the fun of it', so yeah, it's up to you."
How long will this go on for?
"For as long as hatchlings are hatched! It will undoubtedly be at least months, if not a year or more. The goal of all of this is simply to observe how the hatchlings change over time through each generation, so it could go for only one generation, or hopefully a hundred."
What do I have to do?
"As the project goes, we'll have hatchlings sent out to you or any prospective Clans. There, they will mature and have hatchlings with a Dragon of the Clan's choosing, preferably one that has a LARGE range of genes, breeds, and colors to allow more diversity and better data. Once the eggs hatch, the hatchlings will have their traits recorded, and the process will begin over again as the hatchlings go to other Clans."
What do you mean by 'Generations'?
"Ah, this might be a bit confusing, as I figured. What we mean by 'Generations' is not that the hatchlings are ACTUAL G2s or whatnot, but just how far down the line they are from the starting pair, such as Ailran & Luna. If Ailran & Luna are 'Generation 1' because they start the line, then 'Generation 3' simply means the Dragons are grand-children of Ailran & Luna, not that they're actual Gen3s. Does that make sense? That being said, you can breed the Generation Dragons with whomever you wish, but please don't interbreed the Generations! That'll just cause a big mess to figure out."
Can I change my descendant's Color/Breeds/Genes?
"Well, since this Project focuses on the natural progression of the Dragon's change as they're bred, we very much prefer if you don't. Of course, no one blames you if you do, but please let us know so we can mark it that your descendant's line's been altered a bit."
My Legacy Descendant had hatchlings; now what?
"First, fill out the form for each hatchling. Once it's filled, it's best to put them up here on the thread for the ones you want to find new homes for. (It's perfectly acceptable to keep as many as you like.) Make sure to put their Generation Card in their bio! This makes it easier to track back through generations. Once they find homes, send them there and begin breeding again, a very simple thing."
Can I sell them?
"Preferably not, but we understand if that's your main source of income or whatnot. Of course we prefer if they're given free to new homes, but it's purely your choice. We just ask you keep the prices within reason AND NOT FODDER. The reason being they'll most likely be exalted, and that's not the point of the Project, right?"
Can I exalt the hatchlings?
"We would very much appreciate if you could find them homes to continue the Generation line, but we understand the need for Lair space and all that. The only thing we ask is that you record their information first before exalting, that would be very helpful!"
I have Dragons I don't want, I don't want to exalt them, but no one seems to want them... What should I do?
"Just send them right back to Clan Paladin, of course. The Clan will take care of the Dragon until it can find a new Clan to go to! We welcome all Dragons part of the Project and will almost never say no to any Dragon that's in need of a home."
I have a Gen 2 and a Gen 8; Can I breed them?
"No, please don't. Please, please, PLEASE refrain from interbreeding the generations! This not only confuses the Generations for the offspring, but it also leads to confusion between the genes acquired from the experiment itself. If after the experiment you still want to breed them, that is perfectly acceptable, but till then please don't interbreed the Dragons!"
Oops, I realized I wasn't very specific enough. I don't mean ACTUAL Gen2s, all that means is the hatchlings I give are the daughters/sons of the original first pair, so you can breed them with whomever you want and the resulting offspring will be Gen3s either way because they'll be the grandchildren of the original pair. Does that make sense? ^^;;

I just have to say that I absolutely love this idea. I do genetics for my characters, and I understand a lot of what you mean here. Putting genetics in FR dragons is actually an interesting way to look at breeding!
Just to make sure I have it right though, this is a project in which triple basic dragons are bred, and given to other people. The other people breed those hatchlings, record what genes, colors and the gender each hatchling has, then give those hatchlings away to other players for them to do the same thing?
