We're trying to open them more frequently so that players who have been wanting to join can, and so that we can ensure that the site is moving in a good direction performance-wise for when we eventually have open reg. Regular registration windows allow us to do both!

Same as above. More opportunities for people to join in case a certain day doesn't work out for them, and a better indication of site performance.
