Hello.
I'm sure many of you will have seen this chart going around:

Now, this is an awful lot of information regarding type advantage in the Coliseum to digest. What I wanted to do was break down what this chart means for Coliseum battling and Balance within the party.
What this chart boils down to are a few things:
Here is a breakdown of what this means for each element individually:
<Legend>
Element:
> [Counter to]
< [Countered by]
+ [Strong against]
- [Vulnerable to]
Wind:
> Earth
< Water
+ Lightning, Arcane
- Shadow, Light
Earth:
> Fire
< Wind
+ Lightning, Arcane
- Water, Nature
Fire:
> Nature
< Earth
+ Plague, Ice
- Water, Shadow
Nature:
> Arcane
< Fire
+ Earth, Light
- Plague, Ice
Arcane:
> Lightning
< Nature
+ Shadow, Light
- Earth, Wind
Lightning:
> Light
< Arcane
+ Water, Ice
- Earth, Wind
Light:
> Plague
< Lightning
+ Wind, Shadow
- Arcane, Nature
Plague:
> Shadow
< Light
+ Water, Nature
- Ice, Fire
Shadow:
> Ice
< Plague
+ Wind, Fire
- Light, Arcane.
Ice:
> Water
< Shadow
+ Plague, Nature
- Lightning, Fire
Water:
> Wind
< Ice
+ Earth, Fire
- Plague, Lightning
Now, this really isn't anything anyone couldn't have worked out with a bit of time looking at the chart, but what is interesting is how this applies to Party Building in the Coliseum.
Say someone started out as I did, using the Arcane flight. I know that I'm really good against Lightning, Light and Shadow mobs, but I don't do so well against Nature, Earth or Wind ones. You can use the information in this chart to find other flights which you might want to get dragons in.
Going again with the assumption I started with Arcane ... :
Arcane:
> Lightning
< Nature
+ Shadow, Light
- Earth, Wind
I can now look for Flights which get bonuses to three types I'm either weaker against or merely don't have a bonus against. A quick look shows me I have 4 options: Shadow, Fire, Ice and Water:
Shadow:
> Ice
< Plague
+ Wind, Fire
- Light, Arcane.
Ice:
> Water
< Shadow
+ Plague, Nature
- Lightning, Fire
Water:
> Wind
< Ice
+ Earth, Fire
- Plague, Lightning
Fire:
> Nature
< Earth
+ Plague, Ice
- Water, Shadow
I would now pick two other Flights from this list, making sure not to pick ones which would also have redundant advantages, and also making sure not to make myself too vulnerable to - for example, I wouldn't take both Shadow and Water, or both Shadow and Fire.
Using this method there will always be two Elements which you will be at best neutral against, but that's okay. In this case, I will be at best neutral against Arcane and One other (Water/Ice/Earth by my count).
Another thing to take into consideration is not being too weak against one combination for example I might not wish to take Fire at all because being both countered by Earth on one dragon and vulnerable to it on another seems risky - even if I have another dragon which is strong against it.
Ultimately, the final decision will come down to you at this point. You might look at which debuff that flight gets, and it will depend on your playstyle.
In the end I have decided (when I have the treasure) to get a Shadow and Ice dragon to round out my party, but it was a close call between Shadow and Water.
I hope this little ramble has helped and if you have anything to add or if I have made any mistakes please don't hesitate to reply ^_^.
p.s. Sorry if this is a duplicate topic ... I do see a lot of questions about type advantage and stuff, but never really anything in this detail.

Now, this is an awful lot of information regarding type advantage in the Coliseum to digest. What I wanted to do was break down what this chart means for Coliseum battling and Balance within the party.
What this chart boils down to are a few things:
- The simplest thing of note is that each element deals reduced damage to monsters of the same element.
- Each Element has one element that it is a hard counter to. What this means is that it will deal extra damage to monsters of that element and receive reduced damage from that element.
- Conversely, there is also one element that it is countered by. This means, you might guess, that it deals reduced damage to that element, and takes extra damage from it.
- Each element has two elements which is it strong against. This means that elemental attacks will deal extra damage to monsters of that element. However, they will deal the regular amount of damage to you.
- On the other hand, each element also has who elements which it is vulnerable to. You will still deal normal damage to them with your elemental attacks but they will deal extra damage to you with theirs.
Here is a breakdown of what this means for each element individually:
