help me, I'm a chronic nailbiter whose been at it for since I can remember
any tips..? i really, really need to stop. ive thought of painting my nails everyday until the habit breaks (I hate the taste of nail polish, but who doesn't?) but I'm sure there are better ways. Anyone got ideas?

Yeah, I have the same issue. I've tried the nail polish route and it does work, however for me I just get tired of it after a while, but that's just me. If you like nail polish and are good with having it on for a while that works really well. I actualy have a friend who broke her habit that way, so it works for others. I would also appreciate tips on how to stop as well.

Sometimes I put hot sauce or something spicy on my nails to help me stop biting them I leave it on for about a minute no longer I can't handle extremely spicy things it gives me heartburn so it works even if you wash your hands it still lingers my nails are a little long but then again I clip them so I don't get hang nails I hope you find something that works. I stopped by way of fidget box.
I just needed to realize every single time I was actually biting my nails, then proceed to play with a fidget box instead. It keeps your hands busy so you don't feel the need to want to bite your nails. Because usually when people do it, they are bored. So really doing anything to keep your mind and hands focused and busy will help. :>

i used like this stuff that you put on your nails meant to stop nail biting? it's sorta like nail polish, but clear and it tastes terrible. I found that it also stopped working after a while when the taste started to fade/i got used to it.
another thing that's been helping me recently is filing my nails? for some reason?? i guess wanting to have nails to file was a weird incentive for me.

playing with something (i.e. a rubix cube) is also a good way to distract yourself from the urge to bite your nails. i've been nail biting since i was a young child and am finally stopping just now.

i tried nail polish once and while it worked i got a bit tired of messing with it
i agree that having something to fidget with can help. something as simple as holding a pencil in your hand or crumbling and uncrumbling the same bit of paper can help give a safer mindless thing to do. my main thing is just doodling on whatever paper's in front of me, but of course that does end up distracting me sometimes if i'm trying to pat attention to something.
old habits really do die hard; i struggle with picking the skin around my fingernails still so i can definitely understand what it's like.

I had the problem of nail-biting as well, but I'm on the best track to stop because of the weirdest method.
I started watching ASMR videos and the women in those videos always have those nice long nails to tap stuff. So I let my nails grow to tap stuff as well (whatever I'm holding atm) and that's helped me stop the biting. I think it might be partly due to the sound it makes, but also because I bite my nails when I'm upset and tapping things soothes me.

Put something sour or even spicy/hot on your whole fingernail, around it... And when you bite it... good luck! :D
