The Balkan lynx ([i]Lynx lynx balcanicus[/i]) is a critically endangered subspecies of the Eurasian lynx found in the European Balkans. The largest cat in the Balkans, this lynx is capable of taking down deer and goat antelope. It is nocturnal and lives in forests. Threats to the Balkan lynx include poaching, habitat degradation, and its low population size. It is considered the symbol of the Republic of North Macedonia, and as such appears on the Macedonian five denar coin.

The Taita African caecilian ([i]Boulengerula taitana[/i] is an endangered species of caecilian, a group of serpentine amphibians, endemic to the Taita Hills in Kenya. It has an unusual behavior in which the mother develops a thick, nutritious skin after her eggs hatch, which the offspring eat. Adults feed on organic soil matter. It is threatened by agricultural development and deforestation.

The lion-tailed macaque ([i]Macaca silenus[/i]) is an endangered Old World monkey endemic to South India. They have a black tuft at the end of their tail, similar to a lion’s, as well as a thick silver-gray mane. Like other macaques, they have cheek pouches to carry food. Their main threats are habitat fragmentation and hunting.
