TOPIC | Favorite Lesser Known Monsters?
1 2 3 4 5 6
There's a thread for lesser known animals, but I wonder what sort of lesser known cryptids/monsters/mythical entities that people have a fondness for. Also possibly hoping to find a few new favorites myself through this too. Of course, pictures are always great if you can find them (or are safe to post). I'll start with a few of my own: Jumart; a mixture of ox and horse. Lechuza Bruja; A mexican cryptid that is said to be a witch who takes the form of a massive owl to set her wrath upon drunkards and anyone who just plain ticks her off. I don't have any images for this, but there's a video that goes into great detail about them. Nuckelavee; A Scottish monster, possibly a demon, whose breath wilts crops and sickens livestock. It also is responsible for droughts. YES my PEOPLE I love me some Goetia demons
If I had to pick a favorite, the 20th one, Purson, I have a bit of affection for him specifically because I was using his number for some symbolism in this story I had to do for my creative writing course. He's a pretty useful one, that's for sure:

Quote:
(20.) PURSON. - The Twentieth Spirit is
Purson, a Great King. His appearance is comely,
like a Man with a Lion’s face, carrying a cruel
Viper in his hand, and riding upon a Bear. Going
before him are many Trumpets sounding. He
knoweth all things hidden, and can discover
Treasure, and tell all things Past, Present, and to
Come. He can take a Body either Human or
Aërial, and answereth truly of all Earthly things
both Secret and Divine, and of the Creation of the
World. He bringeth forth good Familiars, and
under his Government there be 22 Legions of
Spirits, partly of the Order of Virtues and partly of
the Order of Thrones. His Mark, Seal, or
Character is this, unto the which he oweth
obedience, and which thou shalt wear in time of
action, etc.

Yokai are a group of Japanese monsters that a lot of western people don’t know about but I absolutely ADORE! They’re an incredibly crazy and diverse bunch, but my favorite is the sub-group known as Tsukumogami. Often translated in English as “thing wraith”, a tsukumogami is an object that comes to possess a soul after 99 or 100 years, often after being abused. The vengeful object may then grow eyes, legs, feet, or toungues, and return to torment it’s previous owner. However, they’re relatively harmless, and are mostly content with scaring people. Supposedly, many Tsukumogami participated in the famous “Night Parade Of 100 Demons”, which is said to have taken place on 1st street, Kyoto. Furniture, blankets, glasses, toilets, dolls, musical instruments, walls, rugs, you name it!

Ah yes, I really like that Yokai Watch is a thing( even though I don’t watch it myself) because it’s helping kids learn about the mythology of other places! :)
