Centaur Lore
Dunhoof centaurs are a species of equine humanoids, capable of swift travel and known for their skill in textiles. Each herd is made up of several family units, the individual make-up of each is fluid. It is possible for a centaur to be born to one family, be fostered raised by another, then to join the family of a close friend or lover. Each family provides comfort and care to one another, share a common abode (typically a timber lodge), and resources among them are pooled and shared.
The centaur herds maintained their territories with neighboring dragon clans through diplomacy and trade. The raw materials provided by dragons can be turned into a variety of textiles, preserves, and fine metal work, benefiting both parties. The alliances made between centaurs and dragon clans have created close ties between individual herds and elemental flights; many dragon clans have taken promising young centaurs ""under their wing"", and tutoring them in the ways of the elements. While not innately tied to the elements as dragons are, through years of practice, meditation, and the guiding hand of a dragon mentor, many centaurs have begun to tap into the elemental energies around them.
As time has moved on, the warring among dragonkind has inadvertantly pulled the dunhoof herds into their conflict, pitting centaur against centaur as each herd struggles to honor the alliances that they have made.
A growing number of Dunhoof have begun to defect from established herds, citing dragonkind as a bane to the world and all centaurs. Defectors have created new herds, abandoning the Dunhoof name and taking on the names of their warleaders. These new herds are increasingly martial in focus, intending to use both weapons and the elemental magics against the dragon clans, driving them from their lands. It is believed that only when the last dragon has perished and the gods are forced to slumber again will the beastclans know peace.

Harpy Lore
The harpies were once made up of many fragmented clans. In the last century the species has come together to form a single, united flock. Though individual families of this flock may live hundreds or thousands of miles away from the rest of their sisterhood, the overall leadership and management of the flock is a coordinated effort. A council made up of the matriarchs of each clan convenes each season, presided over by the great matriarch, Talona. By combining their forces and maintaining a vast network of alliances and communications, the harpy beastclan has managed to retain the bulk of its recently acquired territory.
Once a culture focused on the arts, the harpy flock has become increasingly adept at war since the threatening draconic incursion. Young that would have been trained in music and lore are now trained to scout and skirmish. After a harpy has been tested in the battlefield, the new warrior will carve an intricate mask to wear into future battles. These beautiful masks are one of the last vestiges of their artistic practices. They are worn to prevent identification of the individual harpy and its clan in battle. This serves to prevent favoritism in the battlefield, and to protect each harpy and their loved ones from the vengeance of their opponents.
Harpy clutches are typically 2-4 eggs in size, and are predominantly female. A male child is a rare and treasured birth. Male harpies live a sequestered life, pampered by the flock and fiercely protected by the clan matriarchs. Due to their rarity and importance to the flock, male harpies are prohibited from participating in the war against dragonkind or handling the mask of a warrior. Male harpies are frequently tasked to preserve the traditions and history of the flock, as the females who would have once assisted in that role have been conscripted for the flock's defense. Because males never leave the safety of the harpy territory, many dragons believe that all harpies are female.
Recently, harpies have been noted to carry packages between the clans. It's become a common practice for other beastclans to have a permanent harpy ambassador ensconced within their ranks. What this means for dragonkind remains to be seen.

While harpies aren't typically prolific spellcasters, many have taken up apprenticeships with neutral dragon clans in the Starfall Isles. (Starfall Celebration 2018 Holiday Item) |
Stonewatch Harpy
A single harpy is a rare sight. This one is a scout for a much larger flock. |
Stonewatch Prince
Males are a rarity among harpies, and are forbidden from taking up a warrior's mask. |
Stormcloud Harpy
Willing to make the best of a bad situation, these Southern Icefield refugees use their spelled snow to cool the ground where they keep their homes. |
Sunstream Contestant
Eager to prove her worth, this harpy will challenge even the most seasoned dragon. |
Windcarve Bladedancer

Windcarve Harpy
Agility and adaptability are a requirement for a harpy courier. |
By combining their forces and maintaining a vast network of alliances and communications, the harpy beastclan has managed to retain the bulk of its recently acquired territory.Once a culture focused on the arts, the harpy flock has become increasingly adept at war since the threatening draconic incursion.
Items Associated with Harpies
Brilliant Feather Cluster It is said that these feathers may have been molted from the great Talona herself. |
Harpy Masque This crude masque is carved from bone and decorated with feathers. Its strange, humanoid shape prevents dragons from wearing it. |
Prehnite This foggy green crystal is often used in trading and bartering among harpy beastclans. It has even been adopted as a currency by some dragon clans in the Shifting Expanse! |
Shining Feather Cluster These brilliant blue and green harpy feathers have are often affixed to various pieces of beastclan weaponry to symbolize unity. |
Stonewatch Flatblade Stonewatch harpies may have evolved their plumage to better camouflage with the native plant life. |
Carved Harpy Mask The faceplate of this mask has been carved from bone. |
Deadly Reflection I always feel like somebody's watching me. Who's playing tricks on me? |
Veiled Vision The harpy beastclan often treats these spirits as natural allies, preferring to use their resemblance to scare away enemies. |
Condor's Breastplate It was once uncommon for harpies to wear armor, but recent run-ins with dragonkind have seen them prepare for the worst. |
Pristine Harpy Leathers A set of clean, supple leather armor. Harpies are not known for their armorsmithing, so this is quite the rarity. |
Cryptic Cameo The beauty and delicacy of the carving on this haunted accessory is obfuscated by a hanging cloud of choking green mist. The wearer feels all at once stylish and trapped. |
Banshee Brooch A whispered wail escapes this brooch, urging nearby dragons to affix it to their clothing. |
Pet Roc Wow, pet rocs for ancient harpy flocks were much more exciting than those collected by modern dragons. | xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

Longneck Lore
The Longneck Beastclan is highland-dwelling, and mammalian. Originally native to Dragonhome and its surrounding mountains, they make extensive usage of their habitat. These preservationists use the rocks, boulders, and dry shrubs in the construction of tools, roads, and buildings. They graze primarily on mountain grasses and plant life, but some more adventurous individuals have been experimenting with a more omnivorous diet than their ancestors. In recent years, it is not uncommon to see a Longneck fishing party attempting to snare the bounty of fish species migrating upstream during the summer months.
The Longneck Beastclan have an deep connection to the nature of their environment, and are known to spend copious amounts of time meditating in the open grasslands or along cliffsides. Sticking their high heads into the mountain winds and using their keen sense of smell, they can judge the prospects of next year's grasses and bushes before they germinate.
The plumes of smoke that originate from Longneck camps are a regular sight among earth dragon lairs. Long thought to be reclusive, meditative, and docile, the Longneck have become increasingly more confrontational with the dragons living in Dragonhome. Skirmishes between the many Longneck clans are a more common sight; in some cases, the exploding population of the Longneck have lent them an edge in pushing even dragons out of their homes forever. In recent years, dragon lairs that once dotted the mountainsides like pockets in a honeycomb now host Longneck food supplies and outposts.
While it is unclear why younger generations of Longneck are becoming more hostile, the mystery may lie in the most hidden away of their settlements: a legendary valley of steep cliffs, harsh edges, and close quarters. Dragonkind has not yet infiltrated or even located this most secretive of abodes. Many dragons are too large to fit through the heavily-guarded cracks in the hillside labyrinth that are thought to lead there. Those smaller dragons that can find themselves in close quarters with a hostile enemy, and are swiftly driven out. Whether or not the Longneck are planning a revolution remains unknown.

Maren Lore
The Maren Beastclan originated in brackish water. These renowned architects once constructed monumental aquatic cities where rivers met the sea. When the draconic incursion began, these metropolises were destroyed and the Maren were driven out... but leaving meant death for the schools. The few Maren who survived adapted to regulate the salt in their bodies. Those that remain nurse a bitter hatred for the dragons who nearly destroyed their people.
Maren prefer offshore territories, where the fish are plentiful and trade with surface-dwelling beastclans can be facilitated. The majority of their architecture has been moved below the sea floor. The labyrinth of underwater tunnels provides safety to the school from larger intruders by gating the entryways, and providing a variety of escape routes for non-combatants. The cave systems also provide a means of camouflage so that these gates and escape routes should hopefully never see use...
Young maren and those civilians have abstained from combat training are forbidden to venture near the water's surface; predation from dragons is a constant concern. This aquatic race is unable to breath air. This physical limitation has hobbled their ability to expand. Despite this, Maren will slither onto land for extremely short periods of time to honor their allies or poison their enemies; however, they must return to the water within minutes lest they suffocate.
Warriors that are preparing to fight on the front lines build up an immunity to a personally crafted concoction of toxins over time. Before battle, they ingest a high concentration of their tonics to poison their blood. This tactic protects the Maren from casual bites, though careless dragons may be caught off-guard. Their use of toxins is not limited to tonics. Maren will poison claw, blade, and even sabotage foodstuffs of unwary seaside clans.

-----
Serthis Lore
There is none among the beastclans more brutal than the Serthis, a serpentine people with a centuries-old history of in-fighting and violence. Their unforgiving society is built upon the tenets of "Survival of the Fittest". Those individuals who are not cunning, organized, or strong enough to either reach adulthood or survive into old age are shorn from the clan. This has led to a slow population growth within the clans; it is surmised that the only reason they have not killed one another off is due to their pattern of splintering into sects. The fragmentation of the Serthis people into smaller, roving tribes has allowed them to spread into the most perilous, untamed places of the world.
Serthis reproduce in coordinated generations. Once every two to three years, hundreds of Serthis children will be born at once. When this group of offspring are old enough to speak their language, they are led, as a group, miles from the rest of the sect and left there, expected to develop a society of their own. This is the most perilous time in a Serthis' life, as the formation of this new hierarchical group may usher in their demise. Over the next several years, the weakest of this new generation will either be banished or killed, leaving only the most ruthless core.
When the new generation approaches maturity, their larger parent sect will move as a group to converge on them with the goal of assimilation. This process is not a peaceful merging. The bloodshed as the groups vie for power culls those that cannot fight to survive or adapt to the impending new order. At this stage, it is usually the adult group that suffers the most losses, as the eldest and sickest Serthis are picked off easily in the fighting. This paradigm shift again cleanses the sect of its most vulnerable members, rewriting the median age of the tribe to be younger, stronger, and more cunning.
Though this purge may sound excessively brutal, it also keeps the Serthis Beastclan's resource consumption efficient. They often wait out dangerous situations for long periods of time. Experts at hiding, they have the patience to wait days to make a surgical strike against an aggressor. As of late, this has been occurring more and more with dragon clans that make their homes near thick brush or natural caverns.
While the Serthis have been pockmarking the realm in modestly-sized groups in the centuries since dragonkind was born, there is an ominous change in conduct occurring. Areas that once held a multitude of segregated Serthis encampments are now host to one or two large congregations. While it is unknown how widespread this type of assembled behavior is, there is a growing concern that the Serthis -- who have always been a manageable nuisance to dragonkind -- are focused on changing that dynamic in a big way.

Talonok Lore
The Talonok Beastclan exhibits a greater degree of biological diversity than that of its allies. It is comprised of two distinctly different species that coexist harmoniously: the hawk-like Raptorik and the mysterious Corven. Little is known about how or why these two peoples evolved so differently only to come together later on, but they now boast a modest foothold in many flatlands and rivers.
Raptorik are hunters and warriors, using their powerful wings to climb the air currents above their territories and dive at startling speeds towards their prey. Due to their relatively diminutive size (some only growing to be slightly larger than Fae dragons), it is difficult to see Raptorik warriors until they are close enough to strike. Dragons unlucky enough to be caught in a Raptorik flock have been nearly cut to shreds as the protective skirmishers dart and dive like hundreds of knives cutting the air. Though they normally use their four sets of claws to damage opponents, they commonly carry short curved blades to ward off stronger assailants. They are cunning and voracious, attacking relentlessly if their Corven compatriots are endangered.
In a stark contrast to their airborne brethren, Corven keep primarily to the ground, scouring the riverbanks and saltwater bays for tubers, roots, nuts, seeds, and small animals. These foods are then returned to Talonok encampments to be shared. Corven also routinely collect all manners of herbs and minerals for usage in ritual and ceremony. Corven lead the clan in chants, songs, and scripture. This rapid foray into spirituality has had its disasters, however. During the earliest days of Corven enlightenment, those who delved too far into dark, paranormal activities were eventually driven insane and soon found completely missing in large swaths. Corven lost to these harrowing events (referred to thereafter as "tengu") are said to be seen on dark nights, lurking between dead trees. They are hollow, aggressive, and primal.
With the Raptorik patrolling the skies and warding off dragons, the Corven are free to sculpt the landscape into impressively large cantons. These are comprised of low thick walled mud huts, each with a perch-like room situated above them. Corven and Raptorik families typically cohabit with each other in these structures for the best protection. This odd dichotomy has lent itself to incredible mobility across variable terrain, and the expansion of Talonok territory is rapidly bleeding into areas where dragons make their homes. Resilient and driven by an ever-increasing spiritual zeal, these beastmen are quickly becoming unpredictable, adaptable, and deadly.

Talonok Lore
The Talonok Beastclan exhibits a greater degree of biological diversity than that of its allies.
