Hello and welcome to this familiar tracking guide!

Familiar tracking is a topic some of us enjoy. By using the provided flight-coordinated spreadsheets, easy access is yours when viewing specific missing familiars, their locations, and the grand total of familiars still slipping through your grasp.

I maintain this thread whenever any new updates are rolled out, given my schedule at home provides time to do so. I may put it off for a little while if life is busy or if the updates with new familiars are small, but managing the spreadsheets on your own has mostly been streamlined at this point.

When new familiars are released and added onsite, I will usually reply to this thread with an update including Familiar Names, Location (including new row number and location within Flight Rising, updated 6/16/2019), and leave the individual updating on personal sheets up to you.

When new familiars are released, the sheets you make copies of will not update themselves. The last thing I'd want is to work on a testing copy and break someone else's spreadsheet.

Obtaining Your Own Copy

1) Open the Template Spreadsheet Link on your device.

2) Go to File -> Make A Copy

vJTBxFo.png

3) Reference your bestiary; locate which familiars you have (based on what your bestiary displays) and fill in the corresponding cells.

3NiJzXO.png
Column Meanings
- Familiar: Lists the name of each familiar in alphabetical order.

- Located: Displays where each familiar may be found. For micro holiday familiars, I list where they may be found as if the festival was already over.

- Obtained?: Enter "Yes" or "No". There's a formula that counts how many of each cells there are, and won't count correctly if something different is entered.

- Bonding Level: Features a dropdown list with a reliable way to pick the familiar's level! Includes every level from Wary to Awakened.

- Lv. #: Automatically updates to reflect which numeric level a particular familiar is bonded at. Wary is equivalent to Level One, and Awakened is Level Seven.

- Stored (H/D/V): Hoard/Dragon/Vault; this keeps me centered on where the heck I put the familiar, but you're more than welcome to delete it on your version of the sheet if it's not needed. No formulas are tied to it, and they won't be in the future.

- Column I and Column J: Here's where the technical stuff is at, and I wouldn't recommend tampering with it. Column I sifts through the "Obtained?" column and looks for any cell filled with the word "No" (the color of the word doesn't matter). If the cell says no, then the formula will list the familiar name. Column H looks through the list Column I comes up with and filters out the text from blank spaces - shifting all needed familiars to the top of the spreadsheet, instead of just leaving them spaced around at random intervals.

3NiJzXO.png
Some Notes;
- The Acid-Tongue Serpenta is the only one that shows up in the "Missing" column in the blank sheet due to how it's marked, not because there's an error with the sheet. Until you put a "Yes" or "No" in the Obtained column, they won't show up on the list in column H.

- Feel free to manipulate the sheet as you see fit. Add, remove, revise; if it's not helping you, this spreadsheet is yours to adapt and change up to best suit your needs. If you need assistance in such adaptations, send over a message and I may be able to help.

- Additionally, if you yourself maintain a thread for familiar organizers and would like to have it linked here, I have a section dedicated to those who'd like the advertisement; just PM me.

"New familiars came out; how can I update my sheet without filling out another blank one?"

When I post updates, I will include what the new row number should be per familiar. This solution will be based off of that information.

1) Locate a row right above or below where the new familiar should be.

2) Right click > Insert New Row [Above / Below]

"I haven't updated my spreadsheet in a while. Is there a quicker way to update it?"
If you'd like to save as much time as possible after a fresh update is released for the Template, there is a simplistic method I use myself. Keep in mind, it only works if your spreadsheet is identical to the template or roughly about the same.

1) On your own spreadsheet, add a large number of new rows. While placement of the new cells doesn't particularly matter, you'll still mostly need to leave the top three familiar rows alone to prevent the code from breaking.

2) Open the Template Spreadsheet Link.

3) Highlight columns B and C entirely, then copy.
3a) Alternatively, you can just highlight the sections containing the Familiar Name and their Location.

4) Navigate to your individual copy of the spreadsheet. Right click on the first cell you'd like affected by the changes, and use the key combination Shift+Ctrl+v to paste text only without formatting. This does NOT carry over coding, only the raw text as seen.

5) Copy the code from cell F; and cells I, J, and K, then bring their original pieces of code from the top of the spreadsheet to the very bottom. Delete any repeating cells at the bottom of the spreadsheet, and you're done!

3NiJzXO.png

"When I update my spreadsheet, I see the same name listed twice under "Needed"

Highlight 2-3 cells from columns H to J above where you see that happen and drag the entire thing down to the bottom of the spreadsheet. This will resolve any inconsistencies and prevent anything further down the list from having the same thing happen.

3NiJzXO.png

"I copied over from the Blank copy, but the 'Needed (Breakdown)' tab isn't working!"

This response has been edited in accordance to the 2018-12-16 update.

In order for the tab to display correctly, you'll need:

- To know the name of your main tab (named as the corresponding Flights)

- A mouse capable of right-clicking

1) Right click on any cell and find the "Define Named Range" option located close towards the bottom of the selection window. There should be only one named range available.

2) Edit "Query". Only change the code to reflect your current flight.

3NiJzXO.png

"I thought I did it right, but I feel like I messed something up!

No worries, just flag me down either through message or ping me here and I'll help as quick as I can.

@Fate2726 Hi! I really like the way the spreadsheet is set up, however, I am not sure why but for some reason my missing column isn't entirely accurate? For example, it is all fine until I get to Arcane Sprite, if I list it as no, it updates the number of missing but does not list Arcane Sprite. If I then change it to yes, then it completely removes the next missing familiar underneath Arcane Sprite (in my case, Armored Greatowl). I am not sure what I could be doing wrong? The only thing I have changed is the yes or nos as I am going through my list. I also noticed that one of them gives a repeat, Ashen Bicorn Whale.

Here's my sheet so far, I unhid Column I so I could see which were listed as missing.

Thank you for letting me know! I'll take a look at that right now and let you know what's going on.

@Wych Alright, looks like it's an easy enough fix luckily! I'm fairly sure the error was made on my part in the blank copy, and for that I'd like to apologize. The reason you're seeing duplicates is due to the formula being the same for more than one cell under column H. Most things in I are still correct, but it doesn't look to be that you copied over the formula into I561. No worries though! What I would do to avoid having to sift through each cell individually and change them as need be, I'd recommend the following steps: --- 1: You'll need to highlight the top three cells in columns H and I by left clicking your mouse on cell H6 and drag it over to I8. 2: Click the small box that shows on the lower right corner of the cells you just highlighted. This will allow the Spreadsheet to recognize "Hey, there's a formula here!" and replicate it accurately - hence the three. 3: Hold and drag the selection until your mouse is hovering over cell I666 (what a number) and then let go. Give the spreadsheet a moment to think and presto, the problem should be resolved! I'll provide images below to help you out a bit more, just in case my wording's funny. Steps 1 and 2 are displayed above. [br] Step 3, end result. I only traveled to cell I665 to display that, if done correctly, you should have a faint, dotted gray box to indicate the area of cells you're including. It's just harder to see when flush against the colored cells.

The reason you're seeing duplicates is due to the formula being the same for more than one cell under column H. Most things in I are still correct, but it doesn't look to be that you copied over the formula into I561. No worries though!

What I would do to avoid having to sift through each cell individually and change them as need be, I'd recommend the following steps:
---
1: You'll need to highlight the top three cells in columns H and I by left clicking your mouse on cell H6 and drag it over to I8.

Step 3, end result. I only traveled to cell I665 to display that, if done correctly, you should have a faint, dotted gray box to indicate the area of cells you're including. It's just harder to see when flush against the colored cells.
