These Wildclaws live in the darkest, most dangerous places of the wilds, the ones other dragons don't dare go; and because they live in the most dangerous areas, they've adapted differently. Where most of wildclaw society worries about honor, duels, survival of the fittest and taking challenges head on, Quietclaws don't have that luxury if they want to survive. They focus on camouflage, blending into their surroundings and striking quickly, disappearing if you take your eyes off them for a moment (and sometimes when you don't). They'll still wildclaws and still use the favored wildclaw tactic of charging and shrieking at opponents, but only once the battle has already begun, or they have no choice. They prefer their opponents to never even know they were there. Some wildclaw clans consider them cowards for this, despite how legendary their battle prowess is so Quietclaws withdrew even further from wildclaw society, and other dragons. That was years ago. Now, they are so reclusive that many wildclaws insist they don't exist, they're just stories told by grandmas to the hatchlings. [*]Lore: As the sun rose over the Veridian Labyrinth, a young Wildclaw stood by the river, breathing the cool morning air and watching the river peacefully wend it's way through the verdant land. Without warning, a massive green dragon's head suddenly burst from beneath the river's surface. Giving a shriek, the Wildclaw stumbled backwards, tripping on her own tail and sending herself tumbling into a clump of reeds. The huge shape in the river shook itself, sending water, plants, mud and all manner of river debris flying in all directions. With one massive claw, the beast delicately removed a snail from it's snout and set the extremely startled creature in the water. The huge head, which the Wildclaw shakily decided was that of a Guardian, inclined towards her. And chuckled. She didn't know whether she should bite it on the nose or run. The river dragon tilted his head, and ran his claws through his beard as he regarded the Wildclaw "Good morning, young one. I did not mean to startle you" "Who..what are you, slinking around underwater and scaring dragonfolk like this!" she demanded, now that some of her natural boldness was returning. "Your hatch-mother never told you of us?" the Guardian said in bemusement. "We are the Riparians" The Guardian plunged his head back under water for a moment and let forth an unearthly bungling song that would carry for long distances underwater. "My friend would like to meet you, and perhaps you can tell your clan that we are indeed still guarding their waters. My name is Equisetum, and I have been a steward of this river since before you were in the shell." He settled himself partially out of the water, his rough green hide still studded with pebbles and bits of river plants. As he fanned his mottled blue wings to catch the rising warmth of the sun, the Wildclaw realized that she could scarcely tell where the river ended and he began. Off to his right, a ripple appeared in the water and an antlered head hung in river grass rose from the depths. Sinuous as a serpent, the great Imperial swam to the side of her friend. Her long, blue mottled wings, so like that of the Guardian, masked her movement so that she was like a phantom in the clear water. A moving piece of riverbed, water and sky. She looked up at the tiny land dragon and smiled "I am Incana, from further in the Labyrinth" she said, in a voice like water over smooth stones. "We are the stewards of the rivers in and around the Labyrinth, living our lives submerged in the waters that feed the Gladekeeper's realm. For ages upon ages, we have watched these waters. We are charged with care of the rivers, keeping them clean, free-running and safe. We ward the land dragons from invasion and guard the river creatures from danger." Incana playfully blew a plume of water at the Wildclaw. "This means that you, young one, can put your claws down" The Imperial paused a moment, and stared pensively at her reflection in the water. “It is said, among us, that we have kin in other lands. We do not meet them, but perhaps wherever there is water, there is a Riparian to guard it. At least, I hope that this is so” [*]Additional Notes: There are Three variants; green, brown and sunset. The primary colors of green and brown were chosen as they are natural tones that blend well in a variety of aquatic habitats. The intent is to mimic the bottoms and banks of rivers and other bodies of water, as Riparians are secretive by necessity. Their coloration has evolved over the ages, though the Gladekeeper has had a hand in the development. Green and brown Riparians socialize and are considered equals. However, they do not interbreed, as they know this would result in hatchlings that lacked the vital concealing coloration. Each color serves its role, in accordance to the Gladekeeper’s wishes. Brown Riparians tend the less vegetated, rocky bodies of water. Green Riparians tend to the rivers that are well covered in bank and bottom vegetation. Thus, each are hidden well and can fulfill their duties. Toxin was chosen for the wings, as it looks like rippling water. The mottled blue of the wings is intended to provide the Riparian with camouflage from above as it swims through the water. Only specific shades of blue conform to this effect, hence the restriction on the shades. However, there are sometimes dragons hatched with unusual wing colors that look like nothing so much as the reflection of a brilliant sunrise or sunset on rippling waters. These dragons are active only at dawn and dusk, when the sun's rays linger in red, gold and rose on the face of the waters. The colors Abyss, Denim, Overcast, and Steel are not approved colors for the secondary color. Gembond is required as the tertiary gene, and only allowed in specified shades of green. As Riparians spend the bulk of their time submerged, algae tends to grow on their rough hides and scales. Often, they will remain motionless and hidden in underwater plants in order to monitor their surroundings. As such, all manner of debris and plant pieces become stuck to them. Sometimes pebbles, snails, freshwater molluscs and other things stud their hides. All this is represented by the gembond gene. Green gembond looks the healthiest and most organic against the green or brown hides. The breeds, Guardian, Imperial and Snapper, were chosen based on appearance and lore. Guardians were a clear choice, as these giants were, at their core, already water dragons, due to their place of origin in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Guardian also have an innate need to protect, and upon reaching maturity go on what is known as the Search, during which they find their Charge. This Charge is guarded, no matter the risk, for the lifetime of the dragon. Perhaps the Search that every Guardian goes on in order to find its Charge is what brought them to the rivers to begin with. Regardless, every generation of Riparian Guardian finds that its Charge is to protect the deepest parts of the waterways. Imperial dragons are wise, scholarly and often solitary creatures. Perhaps it was curiosity that drove the original Imperial Riparians to explore the Viridian Labyrinth. Once settled, they must have found themselves well suited to the warm, clear waters. Their snake-like, sinuous bodies granted them grace and speed underwater and their keen minds, natural stamina and long lives made them excellent stewards of the rivers. Though they are gigantic beasts, their lithe bodies allow them to patrol smaller bodies of water than expected, making them the most versatile of the Riparians. Only the Gladekeeper herself knows when and why the Snappers wandered into the rivers of the Labyrinth, and never wandered out. As they are naturally flightless, the transition to an aquatic life was not difficult. They also do not sleep and by nature follow long, complicated routes endlessly. They are also a bit smaller than the massive Imperials and Guardians. All this fits them perfectly for the twisting creeks and rivers in the Gladeveins, where they are most common. Also, a note for the future: In the event that I’m no longer maintaining this subspecies entry, new genes for primaries will be allowed as they occur provided that they fit with the general theme. However, toxin and gembond will remain the only allowable secondary and tertiary.. The same goes for any possible additional colors, unlikely as that may be. Many different types of sea life can be found here, from small, colorful fish, up to the predators that feed on them. Amongst all of these different forms of life, are the Guardians who have made this reef their home. They call themselves Sea Floor Guardians. These Guardians are masters of mimicry, and their patterns and colors hide them both from the fish they hunt and from enemies that venture into their reef. They have developed blue patterns in their wings that mimic the sun filtering in through the bright blue seawater, green patterns that mimic green sea plants or the green algae that sometimes grows in their waters, and their bodies have developed a wide range of colors and patterns to mimic the corals and other plant life that grows there. They are capable of hiding extremely effectively behind the enormous coral structures, in beds of seaweed, and in the forest of brown kelp that make up their habitat. No one knows where these Guardians originally came from or how long they have lived in this great reef, but it has been their to protect their reef from natural disasters or from other dragons who might endanger the delicate balance of the ecosystem. And for a very long time, they were successful, and the reef thrived. Until the Cataclysm. A discarded steel drum exploded, spewing toxic, possibly radioactive, green chemicals into the ocean. Sea Floor Guardians who were close to the explosion suffered severe chemical burns, and the now toxic water killed all life in the coral reef they had dedicated their lives to protecting. Those who had been contaminated by whatever it was that killed their reef found that eventually the burning went away. But the glowing green blotches on their scales stayed, and in some cases, similar marking were passed on to their offspring. They noticed no other ill side effects except the recurring respiratory ailments they all seemed to suffer from. The Sea Floor Guardians went on to find homes amongst the dragons of the Gladekeeper's realm. Many stayed together, but some drifted off on their own. All of them vowed that one day they or their descendants would return to that great coral reef and see it colorful and alive again. [*]Additional Notes: There are three variations, Seaweed, Brown Kelp, and Coral. In addition these variations can be 'normal' or contaminated depending on the color. Coral variations that has a white range primary are considered to be dead coral. Indeed, part of the reason the Shrieking Wilds are so named is because of these dragons - incredibly noisy, and temperamental as well, they have rightly earned their name. They are significantly smaller than the average Coatl, but their plumage is incredibly vibrant. They have an amazing sense of direction, and no dragons can navigate the Wilds quite like the Shriekers can. They have no concept of an "inside voice", and screech everything, which makes it particularly hard for other dragons to understand. Shriekers have a particular fondness for metals and shiny rocks, but are very possessive of their hoard. They can be quite aggressive, and are notorious for being territorial and grumpy. Most tend to chase away their enemies by following them out of their territory and making a racket, but will only fight if they are cornered. This aggressive nature can be useful, though, as they are incredibly loyal to their clan - they make great guards. Their favoured companions are birds, and many enjoy imitating birdsong. This is just about the only thing they can do "quietly". The unique feature of this subspecies is their ability to produce various vocalization of shrieks, screams, and screeches as means of communication or distraction. They live in small to medium size packs, often use specific types of shrieks to communicate with members of their packs. There are some variation, but overall, they have black body and dark green wings with same color for underbelly or stripes. Their colors act as camouflage with the natural surroundings of the low-light zones or during night time where they hunt. Some has evolved their wings to look exactly like leaves. The social structure for the breeds within the subspecies are usually somewhat different from the standard breed types. Each breed has their own unique traits. [*]Additional Notes: Shrieking Leaf Dragons live as packs or small tribes, depending on various factors. Some may be roaming while some have permanent settlement. The details and some aspects may differ between differently colored/patterned/element groups. Mixed groups exist and usually have mixed culture or breeds that act like others, depending on how strict the said grup is with their culture. Interaction between different groups can also lead to cultural mixing. Most Wildclaws live as a tribe with permanent settlement. Like standard Wildclaws, they have sophisticated social construct based upon strength. Although, the difference is that they have a solution to verbal conflict as voting. Their voting is done by screaming into the face of the dragon they disagree with. Whomever received most screams loses debate by default. Shrieking Leaf Mirrors usually live as roaming packs. They roam to wherever food is most abundant. Their communication is very simple. Although, some packs have small group situated around areas that may be potential hunting grounds who will signal the main pack when potential prey has appeared. Those that live with permanent settlement are rare, but they settle similarly to packs with multiple stations, having one main settlement and multiple minor ones. Guardians are perhaps most different from the standard types. The charge system is abandoned entirely and they instead, guard their territory and home. They almost always live in permanent settlements with strictly defined borders. Any violation of the borders by other groups will not be tolerated and all of the territorial Guardians will start shrieking as alarm. Hatchlings and families are most prized and prioritized things to protect for the Shrieking Leaf Guardians. When shriek alarm has been sounded, the dragons will coordinate in putting vulnerable hatchling and families member into safety and protect them at all costs. Shrieking Ridgebacks are similar to the Guardians, but their territory is very loosely defined and they often claim any spot they like as theirs. They often use their wits and intense shrieking to manipulate others into thinking they claimed this area first if they had been told off. However, if they feel outmatched, they will declare that they are merely borrowing the area. Borrowing (read : stealing) resources is acceptable for these Ridgebacks, but doing so means that there are heightened possibility of it being “borrowed” back. The Bogsneaks of Shrieking Leaf are unusual. They are rarely isolated and more then often cooperate with screeching rituals and hunting. When not hunting, the Bogsneaks would gather and screech as a form of community activity. They would then depart into hiding areas. They do not live anywhere for too long because of their screeching rituals gives away their location. When migrating, each dragon went off on their own, then gather at the suitable location. If the new location overlaps with another group’s territory, they would screech randomly while staying hidden in attempt to win by scaring off enemies. Fae within the Shrieking Leaf subspecies are intelligent critters that build their homes as a tight colony similarly to eusocial insects. One Fae will be dominant and gives structure to its colony. Each colony are unique because the differences are determined with the dominant Fae’s preference. The dominant Fae does not scream and communicate in quiet squeaks and chirps along with crest language. Other members of the colony screams normally as communication and hunting techniques. Each member has individual thoughts, but mostly stay focused on stability of its colony. The Salientia are a group of dragons who have come to exhibit strange behaviours and unique appearances since the first draconic scientists began to take notice of this region. The term salientia comes from an old draconic word meaning 'leaper'. This was most likely chosen as the first Salientia described were Bogsneaks with particularly robust hind leg muscles who had begun to take after the Wartoads of their home mires. Many dragons skilled in cartography argue with one another over whether the swamp should be considered part of the Wetlands or a territory all its own, as such it rarely appears on maps of Sornieth. Those in the latter camp make a number of arguments for their case but perhaps the most well-known and often-cited rests on the visually stunning and beguiling characteristics of the creatures who dwell there. Those who study the subspecies refer to them colloquially as Sallies or Salients. Other common names for the subspecies include: siltsprayers, sludgefeet, swampscales, siltscales, salientscales, loam lovers, silt drakes, sludge wyrms and bogfeet. [*]Additional Notes: There are a variety of different variants within this subspecies. The requirements above are for most common variant of this subspecies, known as the Main Order. The rarer variants and their requirements will be listed here. Pseudo-salients It has been noted that some dragons that match the subspecies closely but do not quite fit the usual roster of characteristics should qualify as Pseudo-salients. This name has become particularly popular for dragons who have settled in the Siltswamp with similar habits and appearances to them who are nonetheless an unlikely breed from unlikely origins in the grand scheme of the swamp. Bogwater Battalion The Bogwater Battalion are a particularly fierce lesser variant - long considered the guardians of Siltswamp. They tend to be found in the outlying regions of the swamp and serve as a living marker of the region's perimeter. They are found only among the Bogsneak, Mirror or Wildclaw breeds. They tend to show all of the same patterns as the Main Order but only in XXY, XXX, XYX or XYY colourations. Gladekeeper's Forgotten Frogs The Gladekeeper's Forgotten Frogs have not been formally confirmed to exist - but here is what little there is known of them. They feed exclusively on flying insects and they are found only among the Bogsneak breed with Primal Nature eyes. They only exhibit Python and Morph or Slime and Sludge patterns, commonly combined with a Glowtail or Koi gene (and rarely with a Glimmer or Soap). Their colour range is the same as the Main Order though they are most commonly occurring as XXY or XYY. Gleamers The Gleamers are named thusly due to their tendency to be the shiniest of the Salientia, who are usually well camouflaged in the murky depths of a bog. They are found among the Mirror, Bogsneak and Wildclaws (and rarely among the Nocturne and Spiral breeds). They only exhibit Metallic and Alloy or Wasp and Bee patterns, combined with either Scales or Koi genes (and rarely Glimmer or Sparkle). They are found in all of the same colour ranges as the Main Order but they only exhibit Glowing eyes (of all elements) and Primal eyes (of Nature, Earth and Shadow). Sludge Statues The Sludge Statues are some of the most populous lesser variants, being the most skilled at stealth ambushes and camouflage. Survival of the stealthiest has pushed their numbers higher and higher throughout the swamp. Their diet has also grown, allowing for every conceivable food type. Many dragons contend that the Sludge Statues are beginning to return to their earth roots and that if needs be they can literally eat dirt for sustenance - with Siltswamp being in no short supply of various mineral-rich soils. They are only found among the Obelisk breed, bearing only Slime and Sludge patterns - commonly accompanied by Glowtail, Koi or Veined genes (rarely by Glimmer, Soap or Stained). Primary Color: Algae, Camo, Forest, Moss, Murk, Swamp Secondary Color: Algae, Camo, Forest, Moss, Murk, Swamp Tertiary Color: Forest-Honey They are most commonly found occurring in XXX or XXY patterns. Statues have only been found to bear Unusual, Faceted, Goat, Swirl or Multi-Gaze eye types from the Nature or Earth element. Swamp Blight The Swamp Blight are most likely the result of dangerous collaborations between Nature and Plague alchemists - setting aside their feuds to join their desires for biochemical experimentation. They are only found among the Mirror and Bogsneak breeds. They have been found exhibiting Poison and Toxin, Slime and Sludge, Jupiter and Saturn, and Tapir and Striation patterns. Commonly in conjunction with Glowtail, Koi, Veined or Capsule genes (and rarely with Glimmer, Soap or Stained). However, these genes only appear in Algae, Swamp, Murk or Moss colourations. They have been found to exhibit most Nature or Plague eye types. Any element is acceptable though [*]Lore: This subspecies of coatl is native to the lush forests of the Viridian Labyrinth. Most stay close to home, but a few brave souls have been known to venture out into other parts of Sornieth.* Natural Camouflage: Stone coatls (as the name suggests) look as if they are made from living rock. One has only to touch their seemingly stony plumage to discover that this is in fact not true. Their feathers are as soft as the feathers of any of their other coatl cousins. Why the deception then? The Labyrinth may be home to many dragon clans, but not all dragons choose to live within the safe walls of a clan lair. A lone dragon can find the forests of the Labyrinth filled with untold dangers. While unconventional, their unique coloring has aided them is staying safely hidden for hundreds of years. To this day they still are often mistaken for actual stone statues in the ruins scattered throughout their homeland. Behavior: While appearances can be deceiving, actions can be even more so. Stone coatls are well known for their ability to remain virtually unmoving and silent for long stretches of time. Some dragons find this trait unnerving. This is mainly due to the fact that stone coatls can exhibit this behavior even while in the company of other dragons... which has led some dragons to believe that they are trying to eavesdrop on the conversations that are happening around them. As a consequence, most dragons believe that stone coatls collect secrets which they trade amongst themselves. The truth is much simpler. Many stone coatls simply have the ability to sleep with their eyes open.* * A valuable trait to develop, whether one is hiding from predators or from endless chatter about "that cute dragon in the next lair over." Other Information Stone coatls have a reputation for being excellent trackers and map makers. They have an uncanny sense of direction, and are rarely become lost (even when in places that they have never before traveled.) They also have a rather unfortunate phobia of large bodies of water. Dragon clans lucky enough to attract a stone coatl often create elaborate ponds for them to fish in, so they have access to fresh food. Stone coatls are known to have a quirky sense of humor, and have been know to lay in wait for hours for another dragon to pass by in order to surprise them. They have also been know to play (mostly) harmless practical jokes on their lair mates. Unlike most other dragons born in the Labyrinth,* stone coatls treasure small rocks and stones above all else. They have been known to leave suitably impressive specimens as gifts for those whom they care about, or respect. It is important to show the proper appreciation when receiving such a gift, even if you do not share a stone coatls' opinion of it's value.** Though not usually warriors, stone coatls are fiercely protective of the dragons of their chosen clan, especially any hatchlings that may call it home. *Flowers and rare seeds are the favorite treasure of most Viridian dragons. **Lest you find your favorite battle helmet has become the nesting place of the clan dodo. In general this species is a master of camouflage and are well suited for hunting and tracking. Swamplings are generally smaller than other Snappers with wider, flatter bodies to keep their eyes and nose above the water. They are quite slow moving and enjoy a more leisurely pace to life (even for a Snapper), generally using the currents to help push them around. They can go completely unnoticed, half submerged or otherwise blending into the environment with moss or other greenery taking up residence on their bodies. This is in part why they remained undiscovered for so long... until one Swampling with a sense of humour took up starting other Nature dragons with her sudden appearance. Swamplings have also adapted to holding their breath for extended periods of time. However, as Snappers aren't very buoyant they do not move into deep waters for safety, especially with their young. Despite their trade-mark aquatic lifestyle they can also be found moving back up stream or through drier territories on foot. Swamplings born further from the streams and delta keep their parent's swampy complexions, but are also generally the lightest of the bunch. They are often even mistaken for a regular snapper... that is, until they wander over to water and half-float themselves away with the current. The Rot Leaf Variant is either an Eastern or Western Variant, but with Toxin as it's secondary gene. Tanuki are skilled, first and foremost, at disguising. Whether that be changing their appearance to be a centaur or a centerpiece on the table, tanuki are uncontested in their abilities to turn into anything, though if they disguise as any one thing for too long, they risk being unable to transform at all again. They adapted fast to the jungles and found places of an old civilization with hints of the shade. They are divided in two groups, those all in green with the natural colors and pattern of the predators of the forest, to patrol the jungle near the ruins and keep intruders away, and those with the markings of the sky, which are guarding the ruins itself. As a breed native to the southern icefield, the Temple Guards changed some of their features to get native to the jungle of the Viridian Labyrinth. Being the Apex predator in the Southern Icefield, they needed to get some kind of defense against the fast Wildclaws, native to the jungle. So some evolved thick plates over their back to have some protection from those dragons. Others started to trust in their camouflage and use the shards they show as a nasty surprise for those who think it is easy to attack a Gaoler on a silent watch. But all Temple Guards have a few things in common. Their antlers are smaller than those of their relatives in the Southern Icefield, with those stalking the jungle around the ruins almost having lost all resemblance to the antlers their relatives have in the far south. And none were ever seen with Gnarlshorns. All lack the thick and warm wintercoat. They don't shed their coat, they just have it thoughout the whole year. They got rid of the warm undercoat they needed in the ice. Their fur changed to a light fur, that is capable of keeping them dry in the humid air of the jungle. It is a short and thick fur, that blend well with their surrounding. They tend to hunt for smaller animals in their enviroment, and got used to the rich supplies of plants the jungle offers them. Temple Sentries patrol the borders of the ruins and are more adapted to their surronding, while the Temple Keepers stay always in the area near the ruins and keep them also clear of too much Vegetation to have an area where they see intruders aproaching. Off the shores of the Viridian Labyrinth is a shallow sea, which is home to a coral reef.

• Additional Notes:
There are three variations, Seaweed, Brown Kelp, and Coral. In addition these variations can be 'normal' or contaminated depending on the color. Coral variations that has a white range primary are considered to be dead coral.

• Lore:
The bird-like Coatls of the Shrieking Wilds, known to many as Shriekers, have remained hidden in small tribes for ages, and have only emerged from the canopy recently.

• Lore:
The Shrieking Leaf subspecies are nocturnal predators who reside within the dark and gloomy forests of Sornieth, especially the Shrieking Wilds of the Viridian Labyrinth and multiple parts the Tangled Wood.

• Additional Notes:
Shrieking Leaf Dragons live as packs or small tribes, depending on various factors.

• Lore:
The Siltswamp is a region of the Viridian Labyrinth located northeasterly of the Gladeveins and southeasterly of the Worldedge Wetlands.

• Additional Notes:
There are a variety of different variants within this subspecies. The requirements above are for most common variant of this subspecies, known as the Main Order. The rarer variants and their requirements will be listed here.

Pseudo-salients
It has been noted that some dragons that match the subspecies closely but do not quite fit the usual roster of characteristics should qualify as Pseudo-salients. This name has become particularly popular for dragons who have settled in the Siltswamp with similar habits and appearances to them who are nonetheless an unlikely breed from unlikely origins in the grand scheme of the swamp.

Bogwater Battalion
The Bogwater Battalion are a particularly fierce lesser variant - long considered the guardians of Siltswamp.

Gladekeeper's Forgotten Frogs
The Gladekeeper's Forgotten Frogs have not been formally confirmed to exist - but here is what little there is known of them.

Gleamers
The Gleamers are named thusly due to their tendency to be the shiniest of the Salientia, who are usually well camouflaged in the murky depths of a bog.

Sludge Statues
The Sludge Statues are some of the most populous lesser variants, being the most skilled at stealth ambushes and camouflage.

Primary Color: Algae, Camo, Forest, Moss, Murk, Swamp
Secondary Color: Algae, Camo, Forest, Moss, Murk, Swamp
Tertiary Color: Forest-Honey

They are most commonly found occurring in XXX or XXY patterns. Statues have only been found to bear Unusual, Faceted, Goat, Swirl or Multi-Gaze eye types from the Nature or Earth element.

Swamp Blight
The Swamp Blight are most likely the result of dangerous collaborations between Nature and Plague alchemists - setting aside their feuds to join their desires for biochemical experimentation.

• Tertiary Color:
(Standard); Black
(Mossy); Jungle
• Acceptable Breeds: Coatl
• Acceptable Eye Colors: Nature, Ice or Wind is preferred. Any element is acceptable though
• Lore:
This subspecies of coatl is native to the lush forests of the Viridian Labyrinth. Most stay close to home, but a few brave souls have been known to venture out into other parts of Sornieth.*

Natural Camouflage:
Stone coatls (as the name suggests) look as if they are made from living rock.

Behavior:
While appearances can be deceiving, actions can be even more so.

Many stone coatls simply have the ability to sleep with their eyes open.*

* A valuable trait to develop, whether one is hiding from predators or from endless chatter about "that cute dragon in the next lair over."

Other Information
Stone coatls have a reputation for being excellent trackers and map makers. They have an uncanny sense of direction, and are rarely become lost (even when in places that they have never before traveled.)

They also have a rather unfortunate phobia of large bodies of water.

It is important to show the proper appreciation when receiving such a gift, even if you do not share a stone coatls' opinion of it's value.**

Though not usually warriors, stone coatls are fiercely protective of the dragons of their chosen clan, especially any hatchlings that may call it home.

*Flowers and rare seeds are the favorite treasure of most Viridian dragons.

**Lest you find your favorite battle helmet has become the nesting place of the clan dodo.

This subspecies, once nearly hunted to extinction, is slowly recovering. Even now, members of this species are hunted down by creatures of shadow--this is especially so for dragons who are born outside of the Viridian Labyrinth. Like the shadows that hunt them, a Strider passing by can go completely unnoticed. Fleet of foot, they are almost completely silent on both land and in the air. In general this species is a master of camouflage and are well suited for hunting and tracking.
• Additional Notes:
The Striders are inspired by the Wandering Princess of Nature

An individual may have either poison or toxin, not both.

Many striders born outside of the labyrinth are killed by the shadows

• Acceptable Breeds: Snapper
• Acceptable Eye Colors: Nature
• Lore:
These Snappers, like their Dragonhome counterparts, are prone to migration though they tend to keep to the Glade and into parts of the Driftwood Drag as well.

• Additional Notes:
There are three different variants, the Eastern, the Western, and the Rot Leaf. The Rot Leaf Variant is either an Eastern or Western Variant, but with Toxin as it's secondary gene.

Tanuki are a beastclan generally living their goofy little lives hidden in the Gladeveins, disguising as other beastclans and sometimes even dragons in order to remain undetected and thus live peacefully. They are somewhat fickle and easily distracted things, a penchant for tea and parties and excuses to partake in both of those things being nearly universal traits among every tanuki, though some are more capable of being serious than others.

Tanuki are skilled, first and foremost, at disguising. Whether that be changing their appearance to be a centaur or a centerpiece on the table, tanuki are uncontested in their abilities to turn into anything, though if they disguise as any one thing for too long, they risk being unable to transform at all again. Tanuki who are skilled at magic outside of transformation are called danuki, and they are treated with much respect (or, as much respect as a trickster spirit can muster) among tanuki clans.

(Temple Sentries): Stone - Hickory; Maize-White; Thicket - Green
• Acceptable Breeds: Gaolers
• Acceptable Eye Colors: Nature
• Lore:
The Temple Guardians are a specialized group of the Gaolers.

Trees
Lore:
Of all nature subspecies, the Tree Dragons are probably the most varied and new strains of tree dragons are discovered all the time. Tree dragons can be of any breed and any element although earth, wind and nature element dragons are quite popular as their colors complement the colors of the tree dragon.

Just because a dragon may not fit into one of the categories listed here doesn’t mean that dragon is not a Tree Dragon. The biggest requirement for a tree dragon is that it must resemble a tree (with the primary being the bark and the secondary the crown or foliage of the tree) if it fits that description then it is a tree dragon even if it deviates from the guidelines listed below. Any gene that enhances the tree appearance is allowed.

You may have never heard of these dragons as they are always in a slumbering state of mind and most often metamorphosed into trees.
As long, as they are in their slumbering stat, they are almost impossible to wake, expect if they hear the call to serve their deity.

In their slumbering state, they are magical guardians, that protect sacred sites of their deity. To where other dragons pilgrimage to worship the gods. Edel Wilds are there to protect the lands from the shade and other evil spirits.

Never seeing their true form, means you are living in a peaceful time.

If you are good, to see one means, that they are protecting. To not see one means you are protected.

If you are evil and want to destroy, to see one means you will lose. To not see one means you are.. not evil? Or maybe you are just not strong enough to be a threat.

I've provided a blank copy of the subspecies data sheet down below. This is the same data sheet used in this public hub, and is what is generally looked at when creating a subspecies. Fill it out with as much detail as possible, for example, give specific color ranges such as Emerald-Spring instead of saying green range. Once you know the exact details you want for your subspecies, its time to see what others think. Create a thread on the dragon share forums or your flight's forums to get others opinions. Make sure to post plenty of example pictures! Once you feel like your subspecies is ready, post the subspecies and their info to your flight's subspecies hub to get approval to be recognized as an official subspecies of that flight. Good luck on creating new subspecies!
