Tarnished Copper
Breed: Any
Primary Colour: Slate - Chocolate
Secondary Colour: Slate - Rust
Tertiary Colour: Seafoam - Emerald
Primary Gene: Iridescent
Secondary Gene: Shimmer
Tertiary Gene: Crackle, Gembond, Smoke
Lore: Dragons raised in the Shifting Expanse accumulate large amounts of copper in their blood, which insulates them from lightning strikes and improves life expectancy. Long hours spent working out in the elements (for maximum efficiency) leave little time to buff and polish scales, causing the copper coating to oxidize to a vivid green.
While most dragons of this subspecies are at risk of being mistaken copper statuary, the Spiral strain can mimic pieces of copper wire so convincingly that napping Spirals are sometimes carted away with the materials being used to expand the electrical grid.
Other: This subspecies must have Lightning eyes.

Tempest Spirer

Tertiary Colour: Splash, Aqua, Lemon - Banana, Yellow
Primary Gene: Crystal
Secondary Gene: Facet
Tertiary Gene: Circuit, Crackle, Glimmer, Smoke, Spines
Lore: "Tempest Spirers are regal dragons who make their home among the screaming storms and technological marvels of the Tempest Spire. They often specialize in the construction, maintenance, and engineering of the Tempest Spire's structures and machinery. In order to withstand their deadly environment, the hides and wings of these dragons are coated with a thin, flexible, crystalline outer layer, harder than diamond, and formed under intense heat and pressure by the fusion of sheets of graphite-like carbon.
Since being struck by lightning is nearly inescapable in the heart of the Tempest Spire, these dragons have a variety of ways to expel the excess electric charge from their bodies. Some discharge static from every crystal-covered scale, tuft of fur or feather, leading to the crackling pattern of brilliant arcing electricity. Others develop a circuited infusion on the outer layers of their crystalline coating. Still others possess a series of spines running down their bodies from head to tail, or a super-conductive streak along their underbelly, where static from their body flows and eventually discharges. Some Tempest Spirers are so constantly in contact with high voltage and strong charge of a certain polarity that they essentially gain nothing from discharging electricity. The crystalline coating of these dragons is constantly super-heated as a result, causing heat haze along its surface."

Lore: The highly-charged rods and spires of the Lightning Farm are vibrant with energy. They channel energy from above to many unseen machines in the Shifting Expanse. Sometimes, lightning gives life to the most uncanny of things. These electrically-charged robots are the result of this. Known as Teslas, they are abandoned creations born from the lightning that courses through them. Their metallic bodies are aglow with electrical energy, ready to be unleashed to attack or defend.
These creatures have no sense of judgement, emotion or belonging, even to their own kind. They are as primal, wild, and relentless as the lightning that gave life to them. Their bodies are a bulk of metallic silver, a husk of an empty or faulty machine, or a bunch of parts moulded together and linked by electromagnetism. Various times, they perform self-maintenance, replacing the artificial webbing on their wings or scouring for parts to attach to themselves.
If a Tesla were to stray from the Tempest Spire or the Lightning Farm, it would lose its energy source of the lightning spires. Over time, the bright glow will fade, and the machines, once deprived of energy, will fall apart and become lifeless, ready for the next strike of lightning.

Tesla Coil
Breed: Spiral
Primary Colour: Silver - Coal
Secondary Colour: Tomato - Brown
Tertiary Colour: White - Platinum, Lavender, Aqua
Primary Gene: Crystal, Ripple
Secondary Gene: Facet, Shimmer, Peregrine
Tertiary Gene: Crackle, Circuit
Lore: Tesla Coils are creations of lightning flight used to channel & store static charges. Over time, these charges build up and create very powerful electricity or electrical fields. Tesla Coils can also be storage for very high amounts of electricity for the Lightning flight. These spirals wrap around a spire in the lightning farm and gather up a lot of charges for storage or conversion into deadly electricity. They can also do it without the help of an electrical spire, coiling up tightly somewhere and absorbing any electrical charges in the air. In addition, they can use their stored energy to attack or power up something, or perform a brilliant show of electricity.
If a Tesla dragon finds a Tesla Coil Spiral, it will pick it up and try to use it. Since the Tesla dragon is powered by natural lightning, the Tesla Coil would want it as it's such a rich amount of raw energy in one place. In return, it supplies constant power to the Tesla dragon by wrapping itself around it.
Note: Tesla Coils are not related to Tesla dragons, but the Tesla dragon actively seeks a coil out for an additional power source. The Tesla Coil provides constant power to the Tesla dragon, in exchange for its raw energy.

Lore: Thunderbirds spend their youth and old-age following on the tail-end of thunderstorms on the mesas of the Shifting Expanse. Their bodies blend into the rain-heavy, billowing clouds where static electricity builds to the point of crackling. The vibrant plumes on their wings are formed from absorbing this static, and the bright colours serve as a warning to nearby dragons.
Between youth and old-age, Thunderbirds often serve as a clan's shock troops in combat, said to attack with the suddenness, ferocity, and speed of an oncoming storm. In their elder years, most Thunderbirds return to wandering the mesas on the tail-end of thunderstorms. Should they die of old age in this fashion, Thunderbirds do not leave a corpse: their bodies instead arc into plasma are absorbed back into the storm. It is said that particularly loud thunder sounds on such a day.
Other: Thunderbirds must be at least level 10 in order to be "fully-fledged" (meaning, for example, before they are eligible to be listed as official breeders).

Thunderhead
Breed: Any
Primary Colour: Silver - Coal
Secondary Colour: Silver - Coal
Tertiary Colour: Aqua
Primary Gene: Bar
Secondary Gene: Daub
Tertiary Gene: Crackle
Lore: These dragons are the result of Stormclouds interbreeding with other species, hence the throw back to the Stormcloud name--a "thunderhead" is simply another name for a storm cloud. Despite the genetic similarity, these dragons serve a decidedly different purpose within the Shifting Expanse from their kin. Thunderheads are almost exclusively found working in the Lightning Farm as opposed to aimlessly wandering. These large, powerful dragons are responsible for creating the telltale claps of thunder that herald an approaching storm. Each Thunderhead has a different approach to creating his or her own thunder--it is a science after all--and each boom is as varied as the dragons that create them. Some Thunderheads prefer to do belly flops, flying up high and then smacking their bellies onto the ground, their mouths parted as the sound resonates in their gut before coming out as a loud crack. Others prefer to wrestle with one another, combining work and play into a display that would make for a stunning show if it wasn't so loud. As an unfortunate side effect of their work, most Thunderheads are exceptionally hard of hearing, some older dragons even having lost their hearing entirely. It is because of this that Thunderheads communicate with a series of vibrations, humming and pressing their maws or throats against their companions and clan mates to speak in a complex language all their own.

Lore: After particularly bad thunderstorms, or when the Stormcatcher goes to visit the Earthshaker, these babies start popping up around Dragonhome. When lighting strikes an unhatched earth egg, these babies appear. Not aligned the same way their kin are, they follow the storms to the Shifting Expanse, having children of their own and propagating the subspecies.
While still true to their earthy roots, the gems covering their bodies are vessels of powerful Lightning magic. This subspecies is tough as earth, but charged as Lightning. Their Thunderstones can be used as batteries and these dragons attract lightning strikes, so you're safer to be around one than not. They'll absorb a blast for a friend without blinking.
For Snappers, this breed tends to be very active! Bounding across the Shifting Expanse in search of the thrill of absorbing a rogue lighting strike. This will charge their gems so they can discharge the energy at the Lightning Farm. They are a very lucid breed of Snapper and very, very enthusiastic employees.

Tornado
Breed: Spiral
Primary Colour: Grey Range
Secondary Colour: Grey Range
Tertiary Colour: Grey Range
Primary Gene: Ripple
Secondary Gene: Current
Tertiary Gene: Smoke
Lore: Tornadoes are usually gray in color, with a current pattern on both their body and their wings. Smokelike markings curl along their scales and loop around their eyes. Tornadoes have long bodies, even for Spirals, and narrow, pointed faces. Their wings are larger than those of many Spirals, and more flexible.
~
The Shifting Expanse is, in general, a firmly controlled place. Stormcatcher has his rules in place, and his employees usually obey them. But tornadoes are another story. During an ancient disagreement between the Windsinger and the Stormcatcher, the Lightning deity took the Windsinger's own creation, Spirals, and turned a number of them into destructive, lawless creatures. Instead of the flight pattern adopted by most Spirals, the Tornadoes learned that by spinning and moving their wings, legs, and tail as rapidly as they could, they could move incredibly quickly. Once they were done obliterating much of the vegetation in the Windswept Plateau, Stormcatcher rounded them up and returned them to the Shifting Expanse, where he could use them as warriors. But the Tornadoes had other ideas. The moment they reached the Expanse, they sped away, ripping up cacti and stirring dust.
Many wondered how these dragons could cause so much trouble, but that was quickly solved by Shifting Expanse employees. They observed that by rearing onto their hind legs, whipping their tails, and flaring their wings, Tornadoes can crush, toss aside, or shred most anything in their path. Do this while spinning, you get a dragon that is nearly impossible to attack. No matter where you strike, you'll almost always be facing lashing claw, snapping tooth, and beating tail.
Employees attempted to contain them, but in the end it required the Stormcatcher himself to reign them in. He has managed to confine them to the Shifting Expanse, but rarely, a Tornado will break free. One time, a Tornado made it all the way to the Fishspine Reef. Its violent spinning motion created a deadly column of water, tooth, and claw. Since then, extra precautions have been taken, but their is still risk of Tornado escape.
The ones that do remain in the Shifting Expanse guard the borders . . . well, perhaps guard isn't the right word. The Tornadoes listen to the Stormcatcher, the only dragon outside of their own species that can communicate to them, but they aren;t overly eager to follow orders, and spend much of their time either searching for food(although most Spirals will happily eat both insects and meat, Tornadoes have a strong preference for the latter) or trying to find a way to escape.
Currently, experiments are being made to see if Tornadoes can be tamed and controlled. So far, their has been no success. The Tornadoes are set in their wild ways. They rarely speak, and communicate among each other using body language. They can break free of almost any confined space. Also, its hard enough to capture one in the first place.
While Tornadoes often travel alone, their are several pairs and even larger groups roaming. Multiple Tornadoes fighting together are quite dangerous, and should never to approached without plenty of backup.
