TOPIC | No. of Unique Dragons [Butterfly!]

Welcome to something that I did out of pure curiosity! I calculated the number of unique dragons that could potentially exist on FR. When new genes and breeds come out, I'll be sure to calculate them into this! Those of you out there that are mathematically inclined, feel free to check my math~.
2015-12-01
Just take a look at this Google Spreadsheet right here. It also has charts on the second tab showing the relationships between the addition of something new and the exponential effect it has, as well as a tab showing what fell under each category (though it should be obvious for this one). I like spreadsheets. I think I'm in the wrong Flight. ;; *is in Water* There are 130,059,545,616 unique dragons that can be potentially created on Flight Rising thus far when you factor in colors, genes, breeds, Flights, and genders. Note that many combos, such as those that aren't aesthetically pleasing to the majority or are very oddball, will likely never or very rarely be created. That number does not take into account the baby images as almost all babies automatically mature to adult males or females, or the fact that Tertiary Basics do not show. Because of that, the number of unique images generated by FR is different from this, as one must factor in baby images with the two adult poses. As a result, there are 173,736,258,696 unique images that can be potentially generated on Flight Rising thus far. The first part of the formula in the spreadsheet takes into account everything but the Tertiary Basic Gene. The second part of the formula takes into account how many images exist for Tertiary Basic alone - note that Tertiary Color is missing because it does not matter, and Tertiary Gene is missing because there is only 1. Just take a look at this Google Spreadsheet right here.

It also has charts on the second tab showing the relationships between the addition of something new and the exponential effect it has, as well as a tab showing what fell under each category (though it should be obvious for this one).

I like spreadsheets. I think I'm in the wrong Flight. ;; *is in Water*

There are 130,059,545,616 unique dragons that can be potentially created on Flight Rising thus far when you factor in colors, genes, breeds, Flights, and genders.

This does not take into account:
Quote:
  • The new colors that have been revealed but not released (i.e., Robin, Sable, Cherry, etc.)
  • Genes/Species hinted at but not been released.
  • Skins, Accents, and Apparel.
  • The 11 deities and 3 couriers.
  • The unused wyvern breed from the rating / dragon lair slots.

Feel free to ping @RandyPandy if you want to comment about this!

Turn Genders to 3 to account for babies. Subtract 66 (total) to account for Basic tert being unshowing.

That is truly an astonishing number! And will only grow as new things are added. WoW! Thanks for doing this.

@Culex
Subtracting 66 isn't the answer - there's 300,763 combinations of just Primary/Secondary/Tertiary colors alone, without taking anything else into account. In other words, there's potential for at least that many dragons with tertiary basics (but since I haven't taken anything else into account, that's not the right number).

Turning genders to three would account for the babies, however. I think once I figure out how many tert basics there are, I'll post how many unique images exist as well.

@Raera
Thank you! I look forward to seeing how this number changes once Bar and Daub are released. XD

EDIT: Done. This now takes babies and tert basics into account to show the number of unique images. Number of unique dragons remains unchanged.

@mes3 My best guess would be that the first dragon ever made would be @Akiri's Firage. Male Fae Fire Flight Red / Blood / Leaf Gembond His ID number is 12 (which I found by simply typing in the URL) - the IDs 1-11 are all taken by the gods.
