Background for the question:
I like buying Gen1s. Geneing them is fun so far, too. Keeping them? Nah, man. Once it's gened I don't want it anymore.
But, you know, genes=expensive. So I would need to sell them preferably at a profit to continue funding my gen1 habits. Is it a thing that can be done, or should I reign in my spendy tendency? (TBH I'd be happy with breaking even, lol.)

Yeah except in vanishingly rare circumstances you're gonna take a loss on gened g1s. The allure is in their "blank slate" status, so unless you by happenstance managed to gene the derg exactly like a potential buyer would have they won't value your investment.
(Funny story though, my pfp is one of those rare perfectly gened children. All I had to do was add a secondary, and she's perfect. I would have paid the asking price for her even if she'd been basic, though - the genes were just the cherry on top)

There are other ways to increase your profit though. Train the G1s while you're gening them. People will pay more for a level 25 g1. No guarantee it'll match what you paid for the genes, but it's a solid way to increase value.

I think it could be profitable in raffles. If you'd be willing to hold it in your lair for a while, you could set up a raffle with something like "Tickets cost XXXXkt/Xg each" and then have it so you wont be ending it until XXX amount of tickets are bought, but that may take a while, adding other prizes with it might make it go faster though, even if the extra prizes aren't that valuable, it adds a certain appeal to it, or at least to me personally.

yeah as others have said, buying genes unfortunately takes far too many gems that you probably won't get back.
if you get tired of the dragon after it's gened, your best bet for not taking a huge loss is probably a trade of some sort.

That's awesome she came almost perfectly gened!! What does pfp mean? I just immediately jumped to your lair to see if I could figure out who you were talking about and holy cow your lair is beautiful, all of them are so gorgeous!!! Great job geneing them. :D
