context before the update: Me weeping about not being able to make decent skins because I had problems with [s]shading layer[/s] execution. [s]Then everything changed when the fire flight attacked.[/s]
I was expecting replies like "then get better at art" or people agreeing. I usually don't hate someone's art because they do better than me. Everyone has a different style and I enjoy that about art. Some draw realistic, some draw [s]anime[/s] stylized and some go ape on geometric shapes.
But the community is so nice that I got advice about how can I fix the shading issue. So I had to use this technique by using one of my own ideas. And... it worked? I rose my thread from the shadows and people already ordered slots.. wowza
It isn't even realistic either wha? I thought FR liked realistic.
That made me so happy and it made my bad day better.

Buying them? Not now, I'm spending my money on eggs rn but yeah I can buy something that matches to my winged reptiles later.

Get good at drawing, then you can make all the accents you want!
If you have the motivation, creativity, time, money and interest as well.
It's harder than you think, I've made a dozen attempts and given up on pretty much all of them, partly due to my lack of motivation and low self esteem. I also can't help but see my own art as inferior to everyone else's. Don't worry, you're not the only one who just wants to make skins but can't.

Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream, separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream?
The candyman can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.
I don't bother with making accents because my art style is as inconsistent as my focus.
It's an unfortunate truth, there will always be people who are better at things than you are. They practiced for many years though, and the best thing you could do for your skin-making career is to start it now. Also: find a niche. There are countless of creators making accents and skins with starry themes. Autopilot in contrast is famous for their completely wacky accents that completely alter a dragon's appearance.

If you're just making an accent for you, you don't need anyone else to care about it.
Just try putting some time in designing what you want, and don't worry about what other people think. If you don't like it, you don't have to submit it, but you can also just keep trying things until you stumble across something you DO like.

SwankiestGarbage Oh glad to find someone relatable.

arrowXflight Pricing isn't the problem. I think they're worth it. While they don't draw the base dragon, they work hard to make a skin.
@
Mutation I swear if I see one more sky/space/wing accent I'm going to vomit. I love those but stoooop. I recently started and it doesn't work. I haven't found my niche yet but I got some neat ideas. However my execution sucks.
@
LordJeanliness I've considered custom skins for myself but I usually end up try to sell em. Whoopsie.
Maybe save for some blueprints one day and experiment on few? Just maybe

I get it. I'm decent at traditional art, but I have a really hard time with digital, and whenever I try to make a skin/accent I end up tossing it out. It's frustrating.
It's expensive, but... one thing I've seen people do is commission an established artist to turn a rough design into a more polished accent. That way you get to have fun designing, but the execution is up to your standards, too.
Even though I can and do draw art for myself, I still like to commission other people if I enjoy their art style. It's not that I feel inferior, I just appreciate what they do differently. I hope you can get to a point where you don't have to compare yourself to other people.

I signed up for ping lists for gaoler accents, so I get notified pretty much whenever a new one is made. I know you said price isn’t an issue but original price for accents tends to be much lower than the resell price, so you can get some lovely accents for less than what you might find on the AH if you buy them right away.
I think if you made ancient accents, they could sell pretty well. I like most of my gaolers to wear an accent and I know some people only get a gaoler if they know they can find a matching accent. I’m not an accent maker, just a collector, so I only know so much about the accent market, but I’m always excited to see new options for my big fluffy dogs.

You know, I've held off on making an art shop or accents and skins for the same reasons. I just don't feel confident about my art. Now what I'm about to say will be very hypocritical since I cannot seem to ever follow my own advice.
To be honest... Just go for it. Don't think about what other people have done. Who cares what they've done? You can make something spectacular all on your own and wouldn't it be better to just do it and see if it's really for you or not than just keep regretting?
I know that was overly positive and "inspirational" but you know, I really can't say anything else. I have major clinical anxiety and that crud isn't fun. I may not be able to help myself but if I can help you in any way at all, let me know :)
I'm always happy to look at art and give honest commentary as well as show off my own in case you want an idea of why I'm not making skins either. Heck, I'd even be willing to make it a silly challenge or even collaborate. I don't know about you, but at least for me it feels good to have another person to help out art wise when my motivation and confidence goes down the drain.

I 100% understand feeling down on your art, so instead of trying to convince you that every piece you do will be amazing, I'm just going to say one of my favourite quotes about art:
“Every artist has thousands of bad drawings in them and the only way to get rid of them is to draw them out.” -Chuck Jones
So just go for it anyway!
I make UMAs, and I recognize that I'm pretty bad at art. I've never won one of the contests, and the one time I tried to sell copies of a UMA I made it was a massive flop. So I just make them for myself! I recognize that other people probably won't buy them, but I'm not making them for other people. And it makes me really proud to see my dragons in accents that I made, even though they don't hold up to the standards of other people's UMAs.
And you never know, someone may end up liking one of them! I have a dragon who regularly gets compliments and her accent was made by me. It's simple (due to my nonexistent art skills), but sometimes simple looks good!
