Honestly for me, it isn’t breed, it’s color. Some colors look great with some genes, and some... not so much. Breed I see just whatever I choose >:]

Stripes is one of the most boring genes, until you put it on a male coatl, where it... is actually still pretty boring, but I think it does a better job of defining extra feathers in a way that works with the shape of the wings than edged does

I sort of think every gene is highly situational, depending on the kind of dragon you're trying to make.
Jaguar and Tiger for example, fit with pretty much any dragon. Good or evil, Large or Small, they just sort of 'work', most of the time. Vipera works very well for sinister dragons, and things like Iridescent make me think of soft, gentle dragons.
Its not a 100% thing, though.

Glitter Bogsneak is perfection
Underbelly coatyls and nocturnes are neat (because it affects the feathers and spikes respectively)
Thylacine Spirals are gorgous
Seraph and Peregrine look best on Skydancers and Coatyls (because wing)
Opal reaches it's truest form on pearlcatchers.
Oh yeah

Gembond looks best on female Skydancers
Capsule looks pretty darn good on female Nocturnes
Peregrine looks best on Guardians
Okapi I think looks best on male Pearlcatchers
but still, each of them is pretty situational, same goes for colours

OK HERE WE GO
Seraph on Skydancers is cursed. Don't do it. I'll cry.
Ghost doesn't belong on Coatls. It feels jarring and unnatural
Sav/Saf WAS BUILT FOR WILDCLAWS
Ghost looks A++ on Imperials
Hypnotic is a good gene don't @ me

Speckle/freckle/crackle looks great on coatls. Does not look good on anyone else, though.

Noxtide looks good on literally any breed except skydancers :<

This, but please include tundras. Very sad that my floofs look so awkward in neon fish colors.

Thylacine looks good on Tundras, Imperials, and other dragons with manes.
Mirror males also look good with it. Go figure.
