If a guardian is exalted in the first week of life, did they fail to find a charge on their Search?
So is exaltation the only other option for them? Because in that case, exalting an adult guardian means they've failed the charge they did find

Plot twist - their charge is their god.

Unless in your specific lore the charge is another dragon that's not exalted then I don't think that HAS to be the case. I know plenty of people who have guardians charges being like... rocks or their familiar. I don't see why they couldn't just bring those things along with them...
OR go a step further. The guardian is going off to WAR to protect their charge.
Like have a guardian see that the clan that is their charge is being encroached on by the elemental border so they go off to war to try to protect their land or w/e.
Alternatively, their charge IS the war. Plenty of people have guardians with CONCEPTS as their charges. In fact I think I've seen one already with war as the charge but like... yeah. It doesn't have to be one specific thing.

I've always imagined that guardians who go serve their deity have lost their charge in some way and do it to kinda apologize for their failure as... well.... guardians

Oh man, that's a really cool idea [s]I've got to use it sometime[/s]
Ah yeah, I'm not saying it has to be the case, just that if it was it would be a pretty sad thing..

Whoop, I updated the above post but yeah! It would be a neat bit of lore, especially if they were exalted and then brought back due to finding a charge during their time as an underling of whatever deity too!

who says they cant find a charge while theyre exalted. the little bits of lore from weekly q&a sometimes give us a peek at how exalts actually live, im pretty sure they can find somethign still

Pretty much this?
Just because they are getting direct orders from the God doesn't mean they can't also be doing the thing. Going into service might be a choice some make to help them find their Charge, as it could possibly be sending them all over the world on tasks. Just hope whatever they find on the mission is agreeable to going with them or transportable!

I’ve just kinda thought to myself that exalted Guardians see their deity as their charge if they didn’t already have one yet.
