Flight Rising Discussion

Discuss everything and anything Flight Rising.
TOPIC | [Headcanon] Draconic Guide to Healthcare

So, the staff's given us trinkets and food that have medicinal properties. That makes me wonder - what would each flight's doctors be like? Or, more specifically, which flights are best at what? After extensive research ("hey guys, does chloroform work on dragons?"), this is what I've come up with! Props to all the Arcanites who helped me with this! [s]I'm not kidding. This started with us discussing how you'd knock out a dragon. If you want to know, we decided that a metal bat was better than chloroform. Knocks your patients out better than even chloroform! Get your metal bat today![/s] ----- [columns] [br] [nextcol] Earth: Earth dragons are the front-liners in face of disaster. They remember every stone, every rock of an area, and can correctly deduce the geographical terrain even after natural disasters have wiped all semblance of familiarity. Even when a rockslide has buried a village, Earth dragons can be trusted to find it. Their steadfast strength and tireless energy can save even lives that are lost. Even after hours has passed and all hope has been lost, Earth dragons never give up, digging and travelling until every last dragon is accounted for. And dragons who are trapped, dragons who are wedged beneath rocks and the chunks of their lairs, find hope in the stoic face of their rescuers. Because like the earth they were born from, Earth dragons are the stable centres of the medical world, and they will make sure everyone is saved. [/columns] ----- [columns] Fire: Fire dragons are known for their crafting and the delicate way they shape metal into something with a shape and a use. They leave the machines to Lightning, and instead are responsible for making the tools that doctors need to perform a surgery. Objects made by Fire dragons are highly favoured, for they can last a lifetime and never dull under repetitive use. Additionally, Fire dragons are also responsible for making prosthetics, metal limbs and wings. While prosthetics can't replace the real thing, dragons who feel phantom pains from losing a part of themselves find that part returned to them through the hard work of a Fire dragon. Fire dragons are the hard-working tinkerers, making parts not just for doctors, but for other dragons as well. Maybe metal can't replace flesh, but with something as simple as a trinket where your arm used to be, maybe you can find yourself again. [nextcol] [br] [/columns] ----- [columns] [br] [nextcol] Wind: Wandering is the way of the wind. Wind dragons are travelling doctors, the ones who go to places far too rural and poor to have its own hospital. Somehow, they always leave a place better than they'd entered it, with hatchlings smiling and the elderly more hopeful, and a clean scent of breeze in the air. No one's sure if it's their infectious cheeriness or boundless enthusiasm, but they can save even the most hopeless causes. They never stay in one place long, always heading to the next village or clan as soon as they're done. But even after they leave, that soft breeze still remains, a reminder to the clan that someone out there is looking after them. Wind dragons are the selfless travelling medics. They are as elegant and healing as a fresh breeze, leaving peace in their wake. [/columns] ----- [columns] Water: Water dragons have divination skills, capable of searching the mind and the spirit, navigating the tides of emotions like the currents of the sea they live within. They are skilled in holistic medicine, tending to the mind, spirit, and the body, because even one little imbalance can tip over a ship, and a tiny flaw gone unnoticed can bring the brightest dragon down. Water dragons are the ones who notice imbalances in a patient, whether it be in body or mind or spirit, and strive to uncover the hidden obstacle their patients need to overcome. They are gentle but persistent, carefully nudging their patients back onto and forward on the path to recovery. And even the most broken dragons, even those who have been so shattered they can't bear to trust anyone again, will find in themselves, a healing. Water dragons are the ones who always know what is wrong, and like a gentle tide, teach you how to love yourself again. [nextcol] [br] [/columns] ----- [columns] [br] [nextcol] Lightning: Lightning dragons are inventors. They are the builders of hospitals and everything within it. Their facilities are the cleanest, their machines the most high-tech. Whether it's the impossible, or something so difficult no dragon would even attempt at constructing it - Lightning dragons can do it. Sometimes they lose themselves in hours of work, studying blueprints and trying to figure out how best to save a dragon's life. They know even the smallest flaw in the most common heart monitor can put someone's life at risk, and so they double-check, triple-check their machines and continuously upgrade them. Not many dragons realise just how essential those machines are, and the hours of sweat the toil Lightning dragons have put into them, but Lightning dragons don't mind. As long as their machines work and are saving lives, they're happy. Lightning dragons are the dedicated and often unseen mechanics and maintainers of medical facilities, the ones who make sure everything works smoothly from the backstage. [/columns] ----- [columns] Ice: Ice dragons are the best surgeons. With steadiness, dedication to excellence, and a flawless memory honed from years of research, their surgeries score a near-perfect on the chart. Whether it's the hardest, most difficult operations, or a simple one, they enter the operating room with a cool head and a calm expression that has its own presence, somehow making the entire situation feel less urgent, cooling the fires of anxiety that burned. And when the operation's done and all is well, they simply leave, no gloating, no beaming - just a quiet little smile that they give to the patients' worrying family and friends that makes them break into happy tears. Ice dragons are the kind, but somewhat distant, surgeons. The kind that saves lives, but never acts uppity about it. [nextcol] [br] [/columns] ----- [columns] [br] [nextcol] Light: Light dragons are researchers, the ones who figure out how to do things in the safest and best possible way, such as an operation. They stay out of the operating rooms most of the time, and instead spend their hours doing case studies and collecting data. If there's an unsolvable problem or strange phenomenon, Light dragons can solve it. They tackle new cases with zeal, set up appointments to know more about their patients, and figure out ways to combat diseases and tragedies. Light dragons are the thinkers behind the scenes, like the sun we often take for granted, but shines a light that helps everything grows. Light dragons are the researchers dedicated to the medical field, the kind that'll toil endlessly to find the perfect solution. [/columns] ----- [columns] Shadow: Shadowlings are the best caretakers, a job that is often overlooked. They're tasked with taking care of patients that are bedridden, or are nervous for an operation, or are just plain sick of being in the hospital. Shadowlings love to make patients laugh, the kind of dragons that have been stuck in bed forever. It fills them with joy to play a prank or a joke and see someone's entire face change. And illusions - Shadow dragons can cast illusions for hours and hours, ignorant of their own weariness, just to project images and plays that can finally make another dragon smile. Shadowlings are the sweetest cinnamon buns, the ones who do their best to help you reclaim your smile. [nextcol] [br] [/columns] ----- [columns] [br] [nextcol] Nature: Naturelings are birthcare specialists, taking care of dragons expecting eggs and throughout post-hatchings. They rely on no medicine, rather, they let the healing presence of nature itself calm the turmoil in their anxious patients. Their herbal packages are highly sought after, but instead of seeking to make profits, Nature dragons keep their flora to themselves, using it to care for those who need it, rather than those who want it. Dragons under the care of a Natureling can expect an easy birthing process, and they can trust Naturelings to protect them and their eggs from any dangers that arise. Like their deity, Naturelings love to watch hatchlings flourish, and will continue watching over both the newborns and their mothers, until their help is no longer needed. Nature dragons are the kind protectors that can turn into a vicious natural disaster to protect their patients. They rely on the natural processes of healing, rather than any medicine or spell. [/columns] ----- [columns] Plague: With their ideal of "survival of the fittest", dragons don't expect Plaguelings to be kind and caring. But Plague dragons are the best physical therapists - the ones in charge of helping another dragon walk or fly again. With their almost senseless dedication to helping another dragon get better, and a determination to never give up, Plaguelings can restore even the most hopeless cases, giving confidence to those who thought they would never be able to walk again. And though their demeanor can come off as harsh, or insensitive, Plaguelings know exactly what it takes to get someone to not give up on themselves. Their mother specialises in survival, after all, and the most important first step in any part of recovery is to believe you can do it. Plaguelings never give up on their patients, even when their patients have given up on themselves. Me, reading through all of these: Wow, a lot of thought went into these! They all seem so accurate. I wonder what Arcane's says?
