Tbh, if a hatchling doesn’t stay in my lair, or be put in a friends for lore, I just kinda retcon them out of existence. As far as my lore is concerned, some dragons with 80+ hatchlings on the offspring list have only one kid, if any

I hope you're having a great day•buy the pretty dragon
i was about to click child slavery but iirc i've let all of mine grow up before exalting so more of,, "we can't quite provide for you so go do the very best thing you could possibly do ily"
for instance, i needed lair space for a dragon and exalted one i wasn't attached to, starting the lore of having an exalt escort who helps dragons prepare to serve for earthdad

In my case I usually just pretend they never happened or were part of a failed experiment with one of the scientists because it doesn't fit my lore.
But in my old lore, dragons came to the lair seeking to be to be trained for combat, and dragons born to the lair were raised with the idea that exalting is the highest honor yada yada, their deity needs them yada yada and most dragons chose to go to their deity. Others (ie. pretty dragons or anything I wanted to keep) would stay to train or take another role in the clan.

I'm pretty much under this reason.
