Ever wanted to write lore for your clan? Don't know where to start? Start here! I have all kinds of weekly lore prompts to help you out! Do one or do them all. Every little detail helps. If you’re an advanced player that already has basic lore down, this is an opportunity to polish up that thing you wrote a few years ago. This week is your week to really think about the details of the topic and bring your clan to life! There will be a different topic every Friday so you can work on it at your leisure but gives a little nudge towards working on lore. Setting aside time for lore writing is very important, so think of this as your FR homework and try to do it at a certain time on the same day of the week. Getting a schedule down makes it so you actually work on lore. Not… how I did it and wait two years before writing the next bit to a story... The goal of this series will be to release a different topic each week and be finished with the basics of clan lore within 6 months so anyone can participate no matter how far along you are currently. Above all, this is a place to share the lore you have created focusing on the week's topic and discuss it with others. If you get stuck on a particular aspect, bouncing ideas off of someone else can help. Let’s build our Sornieth together.

Already gave your dragons a job? One that perfectly suits their personality and temperament? Good. Here starts the number 1 rule of storytelling/RP: Suffering builds character. Life isn’t fair and we always don’t get what we want. In the original group of 5 dragons, pick one at random. Make sure they never get that perfect job. Maybe the dragon that loves to fly all day and is best suited to be a messenger is suddenly assigned to be a plant gatherer. Maybe they lose a wing in a tragic accident and they’re now doomed to be a librarian for the rest of their days. Maybe they just want to hang out with familiars all day but they’re tied to the forge with little or no social interactions with other dragons, let alone pets and other sentient creatures. Chapter 3. Clan Roles: Jobs

Today’s topic will be all about jobs and the roles your individual dragons play in the clan. If you gave your dragons job ideas from the last chapter, please scroll down to “Advanced tips”.

1. Make a list of jobs you need off the top of your head.
 1. General Store
 2. Tailor/Leather Worker
 3. Communal/Restaurant Staff
 4. Construction
 5. Nature Researcher/Beastclan Expert
 6. Ambassadors
 7. Guild Members/Master
 8. Speluncher
 9. Missionary(ies)
 10. (I already have a Hunter and a gardener. Most of my clan's food is import.)
 11. The disheveled old man (Had dreams. Just sits around angrily now.)
 12. Groundskeeper/Janitor
 13. Housecleaner/Maid
 14. Serfs/Indentured servants (I was told slavery isn't allowed by a mod.)
 15. Iceman
 16. Courier (For large, sensitive, and heavy deliveries mostly)
That's it for now I think.
Most of the food is gathered by nondescript dragons not named in lore or by beastclans that import to the clan but then spend the earnings on items like tools, so the money sticks in the clan rather than leaving. Expansion is governed by who wants to commission a tunnel cleared or a room carved into the stone. I think I've got quite a few here, including a few not included on the lists provided.

Done all that basic stuff at the top? Well, here's some more stuff to work on.

Already gave your dragons a job? One that perfectly suits their personality and temperament? Good. Here starts the number 1 rule of storytelling/RP:

That's why I need myself a disheveled old man. Most of my dragons have had a lot of issue in their lives. One dragon, Kenny, is a pacifist despite her great love for bloodshed. Oda could have been a promising mage or anything, but his anger and prejudice has clouded his judgement and his future. No matter how good King's books are, nobody ever seems to recognize it. Cato spent his young life being forced to fight and to hear the worst thoughts his family had to offer until he killed them all. He never wanted to fight again, but his mind kind of shattered. Two of the shards are both violent. Hazel only ever wanted to help people, but nothing good ever comes from playing with demons. They twisted her altruism into a game, separating her from her family and friends and slowly driving her mad. She can rarely help anymore, usually cursing ne'er-do-wells to death rather than actually helping. She doesn't know that she isn't anymore though.

That's a few at least with some suffering characters at least. These folks didn't get their dreams. A few suffered and did achieve what they desired, but a few didn't win nonetheless.

Stein is a necromancer whose power killed his entire family unit as well as his first love, but it is all he knows. Lodon became a traveling priest because of terrible irreparable burns, having to use blood magic to cast, and the death of his mentor by the same flames that scar him. Theodosia saw her clan get ripped asunder by sickness and she ran. She's a mortician and an anatomist now.

I am not sure if those count for the lore though. I find that hardship is a great tool to make characters interesting, but not every character has a crappy life.

Suffering builds character.

How does this new job affect them? A dragon with hopes and dreams is much more interesting than a dragon that “got it” right out of the gate.

1. Make a list of jobs you need off the top of your head based on what lair structures you came up with in chapter 1 and what jobs you might want your dragons to have.

- Council Leader
- Head of Resources
- Head of Recruitment
- Head of Research
- Tavern Keeper
- Elite Mercenaries
- Working Agents (the majority of the organisation)
- Cellar Keeper
- Courier
- Guardsmen
- Traders (usually multitasked by the council)
- Weapon Technician and Engineer

Most jobs would fall to the working and elite agents - they do a lot of things for money, so as long as the council pays them they'll do whatever they're asked to do. And then they'll spend their money on weapons and drinks and food back in the clan.
