I take this to mean that there's an overall hurricane with a supercell as a part of it. And given how violent and destructive they are even in areas that build to try and minimize damage, that it happened in an area that hadn't seen such phenomena before and was thus very much unprepared... It's not looking good. Particularly since a lot of structures are made of wood. Do I need to explain how tornadoes can take the softest thing and turn it into a piercing weapon?

@/catgame21234 the way I see it 'big bubbles/big prophesies' stay close to the floor, 'small bubbles/minor prophesies' will float up and be near the shallows. You want an important prophecy you gotta go down real far. Timing also might be a thing, like if one is far into the future it would be close to the bottom but if it's happening today you're more likely to find it far up? There was also some experiments where scientists made a liquid that humans can breath in with no issue once you get past the reflexive drowning panic. So dragons going from air to freshwater can be a thing, though I wonder if saltwater is harder to breath in for them? Also if finding lost dragons is a thing prophecies can do then would you rather use 30 min to find your lost daughter and maybe even get an idea of her safety versus hours of searching the ocean full of debris and other dragons with no idea how much time has lapsed (he mentions he has no idea how long he was unconscious for) for the current to have dragged her who only knows where....yeah I'd head for the cave too but then I'd start looking if that method fails. I wonder if they can scry with her pearl to find out if she's alive?

The fresh water acted as a safe playground for hatchlings learning to swim and learn to breath the water
okay cant find the perfect gif but someone on the writing team watches envegelion because a liquid is filled in those mechs cockpits that the piolets just breath in. It's really cool to see water dragons have the ability but i thought it would be thorugh gills that water dragons have not streight up being able to swap breathing types.
actually, i would assume they do in fact have gills (admins have mentioned that Water dragons can have physical adaptations to that effect - source and source), but if they can breathe both dry air and filter oxygen from water, it probably takes an adjustment period at first to get used to the latter (both physically and psychologically). with standard fish:
Gills are feathery organs full of blood vessels. A fish breathes by taking water into its mouth and forcing it out through the gill passages. As water passes over the thin walls of the gills, dissolved oxygen moves into the blood and travels to the fish's cells. (source)
being able to breathe both dry air and water doesn't happen much in reality, but there are quirky things called lungfish that can manage it under certain conditions:
A distinctive characteristic of the Queensland lungfish is the presence of a single dorsal lung, used to supplement the oxygen supply through the gills. During times of excessive activity, drought, or high temperatures (when water becomes deoxygenated), or when prevailing conditions inhibit normal functioning of the gills, the lungfish can rise to the surface and swallow air into its lung. More frequent air breathing is correlated with periods of greater activity at night when it uses the lung as a supplementary organ of respiration. [...] It is also the only facultative air breather lungfish species, only breathing air when oxygen in the water is not sufficient to meet their needs. The lung is a single long sac situated above and extending the length of the body cavity, and is formed by a ventral outgrowth of the gut. (source)
so i imagine Water dragons have a more advanced version of the lungfish setup, "inhaling" the water through their mouths as normal, and then using other physical adaptations to direct that water to their gills rather than down into their stomach or lungs. it would probably be a pretty weird feeling at first, though, hence the adjustment period.

Okay there's something I want to point out as this was a question that I've had for a while.
...he had yet to display any prophetic abilities. Aguar heaved a sigh, hoping the dormant talent would present itself today.
The wording on the passage you get when you mouse over the Sea of a Thousand Currents is ambiguous on whether the power to divine the future is something that all water dragons have but in limited capacity or that only a few water dragons have the ability to see the future.

Quote: They were travelling to the divination cave known as the Shoredeep Presage, where Kamak was to divine his first revelation and ascend to Junior Oracle. Although the young Guardian had proven himself skilled at swimming and fishing the waters, he had yet to display any prophetic abilities. Aguar heaved a sigh, hoping the dormant talent would present itself today. Ok so I find this quote really fascinating it's a gold mine of information. It establishes that 1. It's a right of passage for water dragons to get their "first revelation" from the Tidelord. 2. Oracles have different ranks 3. It is possible for young dragons to hear prophecies before their rite of passage 4. It is possible to fail the rite of passage (why would Aguar be worried otherwise?) I think this lore made me really appreciate water like I might consider vacationing there someday. (Edit: I was ninja'd on that last point by @ViralN9)

That all changed in a turn of the moon.
This could mean a month.
The wind was coming from the wrong direction.
Remember when the Twisting Crescendo came to life again and was going in the opposite direction from how it blew before? Think the turn in the wind changed the airflow in, I don't know, other parts of the world? Like, maybe their neighbors? I'm blaming the Windsinger for this one. No wonder the Tidelord decided to give everyone the silent treatment.

There are so many interesting implications here... the way I see it 'big bubbles/big prophesies' stay close to the floor, 'small bubbles/minor prophesies' will float up and be near the shallows.

I wonder if they can scry with her pearl to find out if she's alive?

okay cant find the perfect gif but someone on the writing team watches envegelion because a liquid is filled in those mechs cockpits that the piolets just breath in. It's really cool to see water dragons have the ability but i thought it would be thorugh gills that water dragons have
not streight up being able to swap breathing types.
actually, i would assume they do in fact have gills (admins have mentioned that Water dragons can have physical adaptations to that effect - source and source), but if they can breathe both dry air and filter oxygen from water, it probably takes an adjustment period at first to get used to the latter (both physically and psychologically).

with standard fish:
Quote:
Gills are feathery organs full of blood vessels. A fish breathes by taking water into its mouth and forcing it out through the gill passages. As water passes over the thin walls of the gills, dissolved oxygen moves into the blood and travels to the fish's cells. (source)

being able to breathe both dry air and water doesn't happen much in reality, but there are quirky things called lungfish that can manage it under certain conditions:
Quote:

Quote:
...he had yet to display any prophetic abilities.

They were travelling to the divination cave known as the Shoredeep Presage, where Kamak was to divine his first revelation and ascend to Junior Oracle. Although the young Guardian had proven himself skilled at swimming and fishing the waters, he had yet to display any prophetic abilities. Aguar heaved a sigh, hoping the dormant talent would present itself today.

Ok so I find this quote really fascinating it's a gold mine of information.

It establishes that

1. It's a right of passage for water dragons to get their "first revelation" from the Tidelord.

2. Oracles have different ranks

3. It is possible for young dragons to hear prophecies before their rite of passage

4. It is possible to fail the rite of passage (why would Aguar be worried otherwise?)

I think this lore made me really appreciate water like I might consider vacationing there someday.

So either the wind switching direction stuff is coincidence or someone on the writing team is a big Brandon Sanderson nerd (and I mean - the team is called the Stormlight Workshop for pete's sake). Either way yeah, storms traveling the wrong direction is Bad News.
Also in regards to breathing water, it could definitely still be gills/gill like things and that's just how they talk about using them. I would guess that it would take a bit of practice to learn how to switch between gills and lungs.
