"This is far less than we got last month," Por said, staring at the small sack of gold coins on the anvil-shaped table before her. From behind the intricate ruby-covered abacus, the foreman sniffed the heated air and regarded the coatl with a disinterested incline of his head.
The map wrote:
The Great Furnace
Anchored into the thick, glassy obsidian by immense drills, a mighty platform perches over the crater of the continent's largest and most active volcano. The intricate architecture is shrouded in a billowing cloud of ash and acrid smoke, but the glowing lava powering the forge workshop highlights the fire-tinged silhouettes of the furnaces and smelters furthering the Flamecaller's efforts.

This is writen from a workers perspective that are"furthering the flamecaler's efforts".
Quote:
"There have been cutbacks across the whole mountain; many forges and railways are in need of repair materials we can only procure from other flights, so money's been tight." The thick-bodied bogsneak flicked his tail and nodded to the next dragon in line behind Por.
Great depression vibes anyone?
Quote:
Por lifted a feathered wing gently to stop the next blacksmith from stepping forward
Quote:
The foreman lifted a pair of dark spectacles off his narrow eyes, "If we don't keep our equipment in order, you won't have the ability to perform your job. You could always join the bridge builders or the stonemasons, who see far less work each year than you do." He leaned in and hissed quietly, "You may be good at what you do, but no one is irreplaceable.
I remember a lot in the past in schools why poverty was an issue and what lead to workers rights being implmented is because if you ever protested in your job you would lose it. Plain and simple. I cant find any other quote in this but
Honestly this image could sumorize this whole entry
Quote:
Be thankful for what you have, snakehead."
Por snatched the small pouch and stormed away. Feathers in an angry puff, she exited the foreman’s cavern. Be thankful? Snakehead?! she thought, a miniature furnace growling to life in her belly.

That's Racist. *Ding*
…
you know what im gonna count every time i make note there was discrimination.
Sin Count: 7
Quote:
After giving the bad news to her clan and dealing with the aftermath, Por made her way to the highest cavern in their lair to gather her thoughts. In the distance, the great smoking mountain where she and the other blacksmiths toiled each day cut a sharp triangular bite into the sky. Dark plumes of smoke choked the atmosphere, blotting out the stars above.
What a view.
Quote:
"D'ya think that we should strike, Por? Mutiny?" came a soft voice behind her.
Quote:
"No. At least, not yet. The guild has a lot of leverage," she said. "The blacksmiths are the only dragons with the physical capacity to withstand the worst of the heat in the Great Furnace. Whatever is going on down there, we have one of the strongest bargaining chips there is."
Quote:
"There be rumors the forgemasters found somethin' powerful in the upper mantle. Ventrik said he saw one of them wealthier smithin' clans headin' down the Heartshaft."
I will stop this ship every time this man talks.
Quote:
"The Heartshaft? No one's permitted down there but the forgemasters themselves."
Forgemasters odds are are made out of exulted or work closely with said exulted for the bloody move they're about to pull here.
Quote:
It didn't take long for the rumors to boil over, as Por and her guildmates learned when they arrived at the base of the volcano the next day. Thick metal gates covered in thousands of rivets now stood menacingly in the cavern opening leading to the forges and a decree, chiseled into a plate of steel, was welded to the leftmost panel:
By order of the Grand Circle of Forgemasters, the Great Furnace Forgeworks are hereby closed until further notice.
By order of the Grand Circle of Forgemasters, the Great Furnace Forgeworks are hereby closed until further notice.
Great depression vibes anyone?
Quote:
She turned around to see the crowd had come closer, the number of angry, fire breathing blacksmiths increasing by the minute.
Quote:
"but what I don't understand is how the forgemasters can hope to keep their coffers full if productivity stops entirely.
Quote:
Without blacksmiths to make tools and weaponry, the Ashfall Waste will lose its ability to do business anywhere."
>business anywhere
These guys do work for """"Flamecaller"""". atleast in an indirect "normal active" dragon sort of way.
i mean for crying out loud the group before CLOSED DOWN THE WHOLE VOLCANO. It'd be the equivelent of this happening
Quote:
Howle cast a look back at the throng of forgeworkers, still in front of the gates, "Do you think it's possible that they're ceasing production to drive up demand? It's hard to imagine Tempest Keep operating for very long without bolts, rivets, or sheet metal of any kind."
"Artificial scarcity, then?" Ventrik mused.
"Artificial scarcity, then?" Ventrik mused.
This just in
we have a Global market.
Stock buying dragons are a thing.
Market shares are a thing.
"Goverment" ran programs are a thing (look at your flight only fourm areas for examples of food drives and dom banks for example)
To me this a "tip of a hat" to the whole community that we make with dom efforts, events, festival hollodays, and more. We make this lore guys. We keep this place alive.
Quote:
The bellows hung by chains over a sputtering pool of lava, operated by a pair of brawny imperial dragons, their hide tattooed with ornate symbols representing the Flamecaller and her element.
Brawny Imp 1: OY, Ink boy! I want ye' to scar my buttocks with som' of dat dare art of ar's.
Tattoo Artist: Can do, what ye be lookin' for? Swallows? Sharks? 'Heart with Ye' Mum's name in it?
Brawny Imp 1:Aye! The heart with mum in the middle. Dat one.
Tattoo Artist: That'd be 500g for that accent.
Brawny Imp 1: OY! That be bloody way to much for a tatto. 'ere then! Grab dis here prod we use to mark leather with the Mather's insigma' and burn that right on my arse instead.
Later that work day
Brawny Imp 1: Check THESE knockers out!
*He's shaking his hide*
Brawny Imp 2: OY! Where'n I get one?!

Given the context of everything that has happend so far. This exact coversation could have happend with those two imps.
There's no way of proving this right. But you can't prove me wrong.
Quote:
The secretive group was comprised of several representatives of various well-off smithing clans and a handful of forgemasters.
Greedy men consume
often discribed as fire
…i like all these thematical conections.
Theseare the guys who really control the great fernance, and their conversation is hella worth disecting yourself to see whos wealthy and in power and whom is amung these "exulted.
Overall i recomend you analize them by themselves but ill point out a few things.
Quote:
"Archmage Carris here actually thinks that the elemental fluctuations are so strong that we should report this to the magisters at the Oculus. Constructing a sanctum may be necessary—"
"Let's not be too hasty! "
"Let's not be too hasty! "
The neutral efforts of the Magisters are and can easly be underminded by loyals of other flights, or their own bottom line.
Also greed is 500% a thing that can happen on sorneith. These guys are much more human than id ever imagen and i love these higher arky social dynamics.
It has been stated in the past that flights where based off of our contries.
…and if capabolizum is in this as some terms where being thrown around earlyer where indicating
then perhaps the lightning flight is a "communism" flight. and it is ran by one dictator.
Stormcatcher.
After all,

later in the story wrote:
Por cut him off, lost in thought, “Do you think this is the Flamecaller? Is she continuing the work we’ve only heard about in the old stories?”
Stormcatcher is the only one so far that been stated to directly meddle with normal dragon's life. Much like how a communism works with "property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs."
The government controls everything.
Stormcatcher is not treated like a myth like Flamecaller is.

"In fact," she tossed a look at Smark, "how do I even know that you aren't involved in this conspiracy? Have the children of the Arcanist hosted us here for centuries, just to lull us into false sense of comfort?"
Smark snarled back at the sneering wildclaw, "Excuse me?! This is hallowed ground, set aside by the Arcanist himself to–"
The plague magister cut him off. "Do please forgive us for not putting much stock in the intentions of the Arcanist, a being who has twice brought destruction to this realm," Caryan smirked, but there was no joy behind the expression.

Just what are the children of the Stormcatcher planning here?

Stormcatcher is talked about in a much different way compared to how all the othere gods have been spoken about.
Acording to his map entry he is "there".
And we got talking about social dynamics and government structures from talking about money.
Money has that way with things in life, because:
…… I know there are plenty of cannon things I have missed in this post. Cotals floofing up for example with their feathers for example. But I want to leave it off on that note.…something else has been on my mind thats eating my thoughts after reading this.
If i miss anything cannon that was dropped in this story, please let me know and ill quote you underneath these lines. I really depend on you guys, thank you so much for your past support.

I'm interested in the fact that it was never once brought up about Por being a coatl and the language barrier. It seemed like she spoke and understood with 0 difficulty.
Also, we can indirectly assume that there's a wide array of actual markets and that the game mechanic of gathering is just that, a mechanic. Clans in certain areas will need to buy items from other areas. I wonder what the dragons in the story needed the gold for? Do dragons pay rent?

But nothing is stopping dragons from living out in the wilds.
gha i cant find the quote but a lore exsploaition of how lair exspasions work is that your buying a new lot or hireing workers to do work for you. They are thigns you use to sell and trade goods.
I forgot what version of curancy this is…
we're still on the lower end in terms of money systems. The dragon world is less advance than us in this regard.
again tho nothing stopping you from buggering off into the wild and foraging to survive.

The economic talks actually remind me of the Industrial Revolution more than the Great Depression. These two lines really stuck out to me:
Compare it to this quote from Wikipedia's page on interchangeable parts:
The Great Depression was primarily a financial crisis that created an environment for unions, but it was the Industrial Revolution that first brought up these questions of labor and productivity.
Technological (or in this case, magical) advances in production tend to reduce the amount of labor needed to be performed. In the case of agriculture, this has been a good thing historically, with machines like threshers, reapers, seed drills, and steel plows freeing up more people to work away from the land.
However, technological advancement does still take away jobs that people were otherwise employed in. It's especially bad for specialized professions too. What type of job would a man who spent his entire life making buggy whips do for a living after Ford introduced his Model T?
For a few modern examples: machines threaten people employed in factories, coal mining, and trucking. There have even proposals for machine taxes because of how much of an advantage it is to replace people with technology.
That thought also brings to mind the Luddites, workers who opposed this technological change that was taking there jobs, going to the point of destroying machinery.
This is something that real mines actually do. They set quotas and caps on the amount of ore they dig up to prevent themselves from devaluing it.
This is something very curious to me. The canon explanation of Dominance is that all of the flights are struggling for land and resources, but it's interesting to see that it is acknowledged in the lore that clans from each flight do trade with each other.
From an economic standpoint, it's better for a country to specialize in what it's best at than trying to be self-sufficient and do everything yourself... but the flights are still fighting each other for Dominance. Very curious.
Quote:
Why, this gift from the Flamecaller could be used to increase metalworking production by twenty fold.
Quote:
Forgemaster Maggmaw, not only does this essence appear to be an eternal source of pure flame, but it infuses any metals it comes into contact with, giving them the ability to be formed into complex shapes that would never hold under our current metallurgy processes. Meaning for each forge infused with this essence we would need only a handful of smiths, rather than the near thousands we employ now.
Compare it to this quote from Wikipedia's page on interchangeable parts:
Quote:
So that ten men, by the aid of this machinery, can accomplish with uniformity, celerity and ease, what formerly required the uncertain labour of one hundred and ten.
