Quote:
The Oculus of the Eleven, an ancient tower situated a few miles southeast of the Observatory, overlooked a thousand small, floating islands.
The Arcane flight has it's own city. I bet Arcanist can totaly see that place from the Observatory.
This is from the view of the Willis tower =D…just replace it with floaty bits 8D
Quote:
Beatrix Thundrael of the Shifting Expanse, and the new Magister of Lightning was early
Quote:
Once inside the chamber, she quickly reached her destination; the window directly facing the sunrise. Before the window stood an elegant desk scattered with research notes
sunrise still works, and apparently they are high enough to see the lightning flight.
That's kinda scary.
Quote:
Remember, I may be new, I may be inexperienced, but I’ve earned my place here.
Quote:
As she gathered her reports, voices echoed up the stairwell she had ascended earlier. Beatrix squinted. Through usage of her second set of eyes, she could just make out the heat signatures of her fellow magisters, all unique representatives of the other magical regions of Sornieth.
Quote:
The temple was constructed several thousand years ago in a cooperative effort to locate and document the various ley lines of the realm. The magisters who researched and studied here were charged with identifying where the strongest auras of magic coalesced. Once a ley line was discovered or traced, a small sanctum was constructed at the point where it converged or crossed with others. The strongest convergence points existed in one of each of the eleven elemental regions: Arcane, Earth, Fire, Nature, Plague, Water, Light, Shadow, Lightning, Ice, and Wind.

Quote:
Since the great temple’s construction, each dragonflight had selected a mage to study and serve as their representative - or magister - at the Oculus, an agreed-upon neutral and sovereign entity.
Several thousand years ago. Arcanist himself made a little play area where the dragons can govern and do science by themselves
thats more than daddy ice pop who mURDERS HIS BABIES
Quote:
The magisters filed into the chamber. Lead by Smark Crystalon, the middle-aged magister of arcane, a tall guardian, and the de facto head dignitary of the Oculus of the Eleven.
Quote:
Beatrix returned to her research to review her notes. It’s a shame there aren’t any other mirrors here, she brooded inwardly, feeling an anxious pang of loneliness welling up within her. She cast a gaze at the gathered dragons. They were nice enough, but they weren’t mirrors. They weren’t her pack.
Quote:
And then the quakes began. The first one was subtle. The other magisters appeared to have missed it, but nothing escaped Beatrix’s eyes. Her fellows’ heat signatures shifted ever so slightly from right to left.
I will pause this ride every time mirrors are being cool because they are cool.
Quote:
Collecting himself, Smark began speaking rapidly. "This has never happened. We all knew that the Crystalspine Reaches were growing at a gradual rate but never before have they heaved in such a fashion. This process is supposed to take millennia," he said. Without tearing his gaze from the phenomenon, he gestured frantically with his left arm for Arwin Petalhide, the fae magister of nature, to grab a parchment and quill. She fanned her crests in reply and darted to the table in the middle of the room. Before she could reach a writing implement, another quake rocked the sanctum.
oh cool the Crystalspine are rocks that keep growing. I was worryed because there was a lot of mining and im like "wouldnt those places like be reduced over time?"

Quote:
Beatrix was thrown forward by a blast of heat as the lenses of her own work station exploded, sending shards of glass and crystal flying
these savages later acuse her for treason for this
but really they just don't know how electricty works
AGAIN THE MAN CAN BE EXPLOSIVE
Quote:
GET BACK TO WORK!
Quote:
"What is this? Do you think these plans…" *casts a disapproving eye over the incompetent masses* "…are innovative enough to celebrate my Flight? I want eighteen iteration reports delivered to the Spire by the end of the day. GET BACK TO WORK."
She should have totally threw out the pearl.
Quote:
“Explain yourself,” Daria hissed. The shadow magister’s normally silky voice had a dangerous edge to it, and the wildclaw's eyes narrowed as she stared Beatrix down.
The shadow magister’s normally silky voice had a dangerous edge to it
had a dangerous edge to it
dangerous edge
edge
edge
edge
edge
edge
edge
shadow flight always got DEM EDGE
Quote:
Caryan Spinehearth, the magister of plague, stepped forward, setting her pearl on a small velvet pillow nearby. She cocked her head, her ebony black mane waving to the side. "And just how long have you been plotting to sabotage our operation here?" She dipped her head, bright red eyes piercing.
CAN PEARL CATCHERS EVER CHILL?
Quote:
She was cut off by Caryan’s sharp laugh. "Oh, don't even try to deny it, child. For thousands of years this temple has stood peacefully. Magisters of all elements have come and gone without so much as a raised voice. And here we are, looking at our newest–and if I am not mistaken–youngest member, laying on the floor among the remnants of an invaluable instrument.
That's age discrimination
Quote:
Just what are the children of the Stormcatcher planning here?
and that's rasist
Quote:
She felt painfully alone, desperately longing for the safety of her pack and her clan.
Quote:
"How dare you!" Beatrix shouted. The composure - the effort she’d made to stay in control of her aggressive nature around the others - dissolved under the pressures of this new allegation.
also i just want to say can the arcane flight go for 5 minnets without somethign exploding?
Quote:
"And perhaps this is just the Starfall Isles looking to physically protect itself from..." Daria's sentence trailed off as she contemplated her dark thoughts, then turned to look looked disgustedly at Beatrix. "In fact," she tossed a look at Smark, "how do I even know that you aren't involved in this conspiracy? Have the children of the Arcanist hosted us here for centuries, just to lull us into false sense of comfort?"
God i love drama
Quote:
The plague magister cut him off. "Do please forgive us for not putting much stock in the intentions of the Arcanist, a being who has twice brought destruction to this realm," Carya smirked, but there was no joy behind the expression.
Quote:
Beatrix had stumbled into a bookcase, disoriented and blinded by the extreme heat signatures from the other dragons in the chamber. I can’t see...
get rid of the rain then.
Quote:
Water: Abysaell Deeplake (ridgeback female - adult)
hated water so much that she volenteared to be as physicaly far away from it as she could be.
Quote:
Earth: Galford Rockbreaker (snapper male - elder)
and btw this is from the lore budies discord that im stealing (thanks bro)
There…wasnt too much, im off my medication today and iwanted to pumpthis out
however if i did miss anything please let me know and ill add it as a quote underneath this line. You guys where a great help last time. I feel that this will be analizing more of dragon's personalities more. This is the first time we're seeing normal every day dragons being used so this is extremely fascinating

@catgame21234
Fun fact - all three elders are breeds from their own flight. Light has an Imperial, Wind a Skydancer and Earth a Snapper. The only other flight who has their own breed as a representative is Fire, and even then, he's an adult, so probably just a bit younger than the first three.
I feel like the Magisters were a little more selective several decades/centuries ago, and only picking from the breeds of the native lands. That's why Earth gotta snip snap

You missed pointing out that Fae's use the frills on their heads as shorthand body language for things. Fanning out your ears apparently means recognition or acceptance. Like the Fae equivalent of a thumbs up.

It's also worth mentioning that canonically (and regardless of Flight) dragon body temperature instinctively goes up when they experience strong emotion?
Maybe this is how Mirrors see? With both eyes?
anywhere there's mussle would be blood
so their tail would be lit up like a christmass tree
but yeah something like that!

We also learned more about dragons last names namely that
They are generally a composite word combing two things (Rancollo Lavala is an exception to this)
at least One of the words in the composite word must reference the dragons flight (petalhide, blotburrow, Reedwing, etc.)
Anythin else is guesswork and conjecture we don't know if dragons from the same clan all share a last name, if its earned through some right of passage thing, or if its inherited through one of the parents.
If I may indulge in some Wild guesswork My current theory on last names is that they get one part of their names from the last names of both parents. My main "evidence" for this is Blotburrow and Spinehearth. While I've mentioned before That the Blot in Blotburrow refers to the shadow flight I think the burrow part of the name is suspiciously earthy. Spinehearth's name is even more suspicious because a hearth is a term for a fire place
Therefore My theory is that Blotburrow has a shadow parent and an earth parent. and that Spinehearth has one Plague parent and one Fire parent and that when they got last names they borrowed a part of their names from both parents.
It's probably not true though and Lavala proves that naming conventions are not totally standard anyway.
(I'm sorry for the long post i'm a nerd who loves different cultures and how they work or might work)

one thing I noticed-or how I read things, was how sure of herself that the Wildclaw was. In lore, Wildclaws half to back up everything they say, and need to be willing to fight for it. The strongest one is always 'right'.
So I sort of took that in her tone with speaking. I read it that she couldn't really ask questions like 'Did you intentionally break the lenses'. She had to make an assumption ('This mirror definitely broke the lenses' ) and continue on with that line of thought to its extremes, With no room for doubt/questioning. Possibly because she wasn't expecting something like this to happen, especially with so many other things happening. There's a good chance the wildclaw was actually glad that Beatrix was willing to fight/stood up for herself. And also why she was willing to leave the mages. (Once Beatrix stood up for herself, she didn't actually directly accuse her again, she turned her anger/fear to Smark. Because she couldn't admit that theres a possibility she was wrong, since that might lower her wildclaw-ranking, she had to keep going deeper. And Actions are important, so she had to go so far as to try and dismantle her lenses. )
I mean, i think we'll possibly see these characters again in future lore, but thats kind of something I noticed/thought. Maybe i'm overthinking though.
(I also noticed how the Wildclaw and Pearlcatcher seamed to be friends. (Shadow and Plague are right next to each other on the map.)
Edit: I also noticed how the Wildclaw immediately fell in line once the older (and presumably stronger) Skydancer started scolding them.
